- Welcome to Mimicita's Kitchen! How to Cook Red Beans. Red beans are a staple of Nicaragua, and can be used to make Gallo Pinto, a favorite Nicaraguan dish.
Ingredients you will need:
64 oz bag of red beans de seda (make sure they say "de seda" like these: amzn.to/3mFkMVN)
Garlic
Salt
Pepper
Goya seasoning
Green bell pepper
Onion
Vegetable Oil
Cook time is about 2 hours and 40 minutes
Note: all stoves are different. The timeframes indicated in the video will give you a general idea of how long it will take to cook. A good indication of how long it will take to cook on your stovetop is to watch for water uptake.

I went to Nicaragua in 2016 and I am CRAVING gallo pinto so much! It was such a comfort food to eat. Absolutely delicious - wish I could try yours!

Awesome video!
That's what i need, an old pro showing me the ropes. Dont want to learn from a spring chicken. If she doesn't have gray hair, what does she know really.
If I am cooking only 14 oz of beans will I need to cook for less time? Gracias!
Yes, cook until the beans are soft.
I bought some red beans at the Mercado that read Salvadorian Beans, are these the same beans?
Those are good but must say ‘de seda’
Why do you add baking soda to the beans?
The sodium bicarbonate is help minimize gastrointestinal issues from the beans.
