      Just to add to that. Snooker is regarded as an “old school” sport. Seemingly popular with the old generation of people than the modern. Only those in the sport would know if this is accurate or not. That being said I know about 10 old boys, they all have their fav players they follow.. none of them have TH-cam etc. maybe a smart phone.. but I doubt they’d go out their way to watch videos such as these as it’s not considered easy access to them. Repeatedly, they all have their players they follow… but they rely on live TV snooker to watch them.. how rare is that… once every 4-5 months? even then their favourite players are on screen playing the game in the silence… my point being, some of these older generation supporters… which is probably a higher percentage of the demographic, they’ve never even heard their favourite players speak… because there is nothing out there that gets them involved on a personal level. (Despite maybe a 2 minute documentary pre match that may appear before a big game on tv). The snooker world is a silent sport.

      @michaelmulhall5007 It's not that Hendry wasn't entertaining, but that he didn't care about being entertaining. He wasn't bothered about whether audiences were having a good time, as he was there to win. As a comparison, think about when Andre Agassi played tennis at around the same time as Hendry was playing snooker. Agassi was a showman, who did care about entertaining (though not at the expense of winning).

    When Stephen (quite rightly) said people’s entertainment style is dependant on their character, it really hit home the difference this channel has made with showcasing personalities. Snooker players don’t have to trash talk or go all UFC/WWE to build their brand, just a bit more engagement from them being themselves would surely be massively beneficial. I never even heard some of these players speak before coming on this channel - they all have such different personalities and come across as one of the best crops of sportsmen in the world. I do appreciate how the broadcasters try get them on to interact etc though, so maybe this will pay off soon :)

    I'd like to see an exhibition week before the triple crown events, where the players have a (light hearted) warm up, whetting the public's appetite for the main event. A bit like the golf majors, but longer. A 6-red competition, doubles, smash em 147 competitions with one player, 2 v 1 games, the public get two shots every miss vs one for the pros, ex champions handicap exhibitions....there are so many things they could do.

      I agree but I get why some people don't like him, it's because he likes to be a bit pompous and over-the-top and that can seem snobbish to some people. But I think a lot of people wrongly mistake his pompousness for arrogance when I really don't think he is honestly arrogant. He likes to be cocky at times but to me, it's pretty obviously just joking around. Whenever he talks seriously about his own game and his place in the history of the sport, you can see that he's very humble and self-reflective.

Then he kick off about losing to an amateur, then had to pretend he was sorry. He seems like a too faced, lying piece of sh*t. But that's my honest opinion, people are entitled to disagree and have a completely different opinion. I didn't like Stephen much when he was playing, but maybe that was because I loved Jimmy White. Nice one boys! On the last question of entertainment - as not just a snooker fan, but a cue sports fan, I personally would like to see more inter-cue sport. For example, top Chinese eight ball players competing against top Snooker, American Nine ball and English eight ball players - they could compete against each other on the respective table types. It could be a knockout tournament and the winner becomes the ultimate cue sport champion.
    I believe that sort of event would really draw the crowds and would be immensely entertaining.

      People don't realise the physical effort required to keep dead still to play a shot and not miss. I'm in my 50s now, but even when I was in my 20s I'd play a best of 9 frame match and was knackered and ached afterwards! Same for Darts - need to keep still to provide the platform to deliver the dart accurately with minute margins of error. That's why I say snooker and darts are still sports and not 'games'. Formula 1 is classed as a sport and they're sitting on their backsides all day!

It develops concentration/focus, fairness and honesty (not withstanding controversy with gambling), and developing advanced motor skills. There's a lot to love about playing snooker. Snooker taught in school??? Not fussed it’s so in China. Since when have they been a country to follow. Children need to be physical in sport and I mean ‘need’

    • @JinxTravel
      @JinxTravel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the point is that China would love to take over snooker and they are doing everything to grow young talent and encourage people to play. Whereas we maybe the leaders in snooker at the moment but there is a huge shortage of clubs to play in and even when you find one you have the travel, cost and hope there is a table free. It is just not as accessible in the UK. So if we do nothing to help the young then we risk losing our domination to China in future years.

    The problem with the 147 being worth more (and I still agree with Stephen and Ding) is that the players have become so good in the last few decades. It's rare for a season to have less than 10 maximum breaks due to how many tournament they play. Should it be worth £147,000 like it used to be? No, but I think it should be worth more than what they have been giving the last few seasons for sure. Ultimately snooker is vastly underfunded and I admire every single person that try to make it (and do make it) as a professional because it proves their love for the game. There's way more money in other sports.

    A 147 is certainly not the hardest thing in all of sport. We've seen 14 of them at the Crucible and many more in other tournaments. It "only" takes 36 shots. Last week saw only the 4th round of 62 in a major golf tournament and that will be beaten one day. There have been 44 hat-tricks in test match cricket dating back to 1879. Just a little perspective.

It is so hard to get a venue where one can operate at a profit. When my club was open it used to bring in almost all of the new blood into the game in the area. Now there are no public clubs left. What is it like in other countries? Thanks for your show.

    I grew up in a town called Bracknell. We had 3/4 quality snooker clubs in the town. One in the town centre had about 30 snooker tables across 2 levels including private rooms. All of them taken care of, re-clothed when needed etc. By the time I turned 17, they had all closed down. I've barely played since. I was absolutely gutted. Nearest snooker club was a few towns across in Reading which was a dive.

    I don’t agree with a lot Murphy says but I agree with him here. Snooker players do need to be more entertaining. Ronnie is the exception to the rule as he plays snooker in an entertaining way, but most players don’t. Mark Selby is an incredible player, but I can’t stand watching him play, to the point where I turn the match off unless he’s playing Trump or O’Sullivan. Players definitely need to become more active in promoting the sport. I living in Sheffield & every year there is no evidence that the World Championship is being held there, unless you walk right past the Crucible.

    I wanted to comment on the discussion that 'Snooker isnthe hardest sport there is'. There is one thing that sets Snooker asid and that is the tangible issue that only one player can play at a time. If the other person runs the table and makes big break after big break you simply canot score points. As Johj Virgo (and others) often say.. you can't do anything if you are sat in your seat. True. This message it very hard. However, if we compare Snooker to other sports. Tennis where there is also the need for.incredi le.precison and skill from player through the bracket to the ball. But at high speed. You have to respond to the other players real-time, ofter high speed play. Running around for hours. Alone.. running a marathon? 26 miles on your own. Sports with extreme physical demands. Pole Vault? Darts has many of the same challenges as Snooker. Is that therefore up there as one of the hardest sports? What about Bowls? Curling? Formula One motor racng? Rally Driving? OTher sports with mecahine or tools. Or lower physical demands? I love snooker and admire the skill of the players. Incredible. And the tactical player is like nothing else. But to say it is the hardest sport there is laughable and does not do the game or the players justice.

Taking on long pots to continue playing and remain in control of your fate as well as the fate of your opponents was something very special.
