  • PRS S2 McCarty 594 Double Cut - Nice Guitar, I Just can’t take to it...! Often Spoken of as the Guitar for Doctors, Lawyers & Dentists... One Thing is for Sure... it's Great in the Studio!
In my previous video regarding guitar cases, I said I would be looking at guitars I actually use in recording, and those I use for general jamming and the joy of collecting. But one guitar that got my attention was a bit of a surprise. Since I began my guitar playing and recording journey after a 40 year break, I felt the need for a guitar that would perform well within a recording studio environment, something that could cover a number of music styles. My search finally took me to a brand I had never heard of before, and in particular, one specific guitar model. This would be something of a new venture for me, but in some respects my choice still smacked of the vintage traditional.
Of course, PRS needs very little introduction and while it has often been referred to as the 'go-to' for lawyers, doctors and dentists, there are numerous players - both hobbyist and professional who sing their praises. This video is a short over-view of the PRS S2 McCarty 594 Double-cut... Enjoy!

I played both 58/15 lt(s) and 58/15 lt and the new core pickups just blows it away.
I’m sure your opinion would change with the new USA pickups

Hi - Jesus is King! He certainly is... ;-) I had thought about swapping the pick-ups out and if I hold onto the guitar, I might just do that. While I do appreciate the quality of the PRS line and will use it in recording, as for guitars that connect with me, I'm just an old die-hard Fender Tele/Strat guy... regards: Stu

That PRS is a beauty for sure, I've never played one myself but it sounds very good.

Hi Freeontheland2030 - PRSs are very nice guitars, no doubt about that, so much depends on your style of playing. As I'm an old school guitarist my focus is more on guitars of days-gone-bye which you can see in various videos I have made. Regards: Stu

What a high quality review video!
Now I'm looking fora single cut style guitar with vintage look and nice playability.
S2 maybe be in my pocket, I'm not a big 10 top fan and not care about it, just wanna a guitar that is upgradable.
Some used S2 594 is 1200 dollars in Japan and I gonna travel next week xD!
    Did u recommand S2 version?

Hi Toni - Many thanks for the kind remark. Regarding the S2 McCarty Guitars (Single and Double-Cut) - As mentioned, they are very nicely made and have a feel of quality, very nice to play. They do have a certain vintage vibe to them (Hence the McCarty connection). Some folks put alternative pick-ups in them, but that’s very much a personal choice - I’m happy with the pick-ups that come with it. Are they worth it? If finances are tight and you can get a well-cared for guitar at a decent price used, then you should definitely try one out. Whether it’s the right guitar for you, only you will be able to decide… there is so much choice these days… but do try one out before buying. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask, always happy to help and perhaps some other PRS owners might give an opinion or advise. Regards: Stu

@@Toni-nf6ht Hi Toni - Many thanks... Look forward to hearing how you get on... I'm away myself to have a look at a different type of single cut vintage guitar and will be reviewing a guitar next week I might trade or sell to put towards it... Regards: Stu

Put the 58/15lt pickups in it and your opinion might change. Gave it that extra sparkle for me.

Hi ggreloaded - Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I did think about that, in fact I thought about a number of pick-up configurations but after using the guitar in a recording environment I really like the way it sounds and I can alter the tone and boost with pedals or software. So, in every aspect it's a very nice guitar to hold and to play and it is my go-to for what I do in the studio. It's just that "connected feeling" is missing for me... it's not the actual sound of the guitar. I think that feeling is probably to do with nostalgia, having come back to playing after a 40 year break... your memories attached to stuff you grew up with - good or bad. When I get some time I am interested in trying out one of the Custom models, again I would be using it for studio recording. Thanks again for chipping in and mentioning those pick-ups... Regards: Stu

@@StuGuitarChannel I completely understand, I have that strange nostalgic connection with the Fender Strat. Grew up watching my uncle playing it in the 90’s and it just gives me that great feeling when I pick one up.

Hi Jerrod, I thought about buying a PRS with a trem and if one comes up second-hand then I might just take a look. I do love using the 594 in the studio, such an nice and reliable guitar to play. How do you find the trem? Does it keep tune? regards: Stu

Hi Amin - A sad time for me just now... my mother passed away today and before she died she wanted me to bring my guitar and sing to her... I was too late... I regret that... I suppose, the moral of this story is... never take those you love for granted and don't put things off you mean to do.... In the video this Friday I show the guitar my mother bought me as a gift to remember her by. I will continue to think about your question... 😪

In 2020 I bought a McCarty 594 core mdl & Only played it for 3 days & stared at her in the stand for another wk , before I finally traded her And my James Burton Signature Fender Telecaster blue flame for a 2017 Ernie Ball Musicman Steve Morse Signature HH BFR reverse headstock in Tahitian blue , #16 of only 69 worldwide pcs _ the 594 was a Very nice Gtr & Beautiful... but I jst did Not fall in Love_ I felt like I had married the Wrong woman_ but it got me to a Dream Gtr_ so I can relate & Thanks for your honesty_!

Thanks for that Ric, That Telecaster sounds nice.... It's a strange one, PRS make really lovely guitars to play and they are beautifully made but as you say... there is just something missing. As I say, it might just be me getting old and set in my ways of traditionalism, so it would be good to hear from those who do 'connect' with PRS guitars. Now... the Music-man guitars have caught my interest since Mr Fender was the founder of that company... I've just never had time to go and check one out. I hear good things about them. Regards: Stu
