Wow! The true juice that really matters and likely many just ignore! So truly fun when we figure it all out like this! Thanks really appreciated this video!
The first 10 or so BASS Masters Classics were held on a mystery location. That was a better test than what we have now. BASS brought back the concept for a a while in the early 2000’s and I made the 2005 Bush Shootout. I was the only angler that had never fished the lake before since I Qualified by having the biggest one day catch at the Federation National Championship and BASS held an Elite Event there 8 months earlier. I finished 2nd! I’ve always enjoyed fishing new lakes and do so as often as possible. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my best day on a lake the first time I’ve ever fished it. I actually think it’s harder to fish instinctively with practice or prior experience on a lake. I usually advise friends that want to fish the Opens or BFL for the experience to fish something other than there home division.
Yes, good advice. What was that "modified format" for that Busch Shootout that Brent Chapman won, Ed? I forgot how that worked. I see there was a 12 way tie for 2nd.
@ The prize money was the same 2nd through 12th but I had the 2nd best catch. They even had Brent holding up my fish on BASS Masters since one of my fish was substantially larger than anything else that was caught. Still the craziest part of the whole trip was airport security. They weren’t amused at Newark when I tried to get my ticket without knowing my destination! Met up with KVD at a connecting flight and he got flagged by security, searched in the back room.
@@edwardcowan7012 Neat stories! Thanks, Ed. I messaged Dave Mercer and suggested he should have you on his podcast for great content! Chapman holding up your fish just to make it look good for photos/video....kind of seedy/sneaky. I'm pretty sure Brent DID NOT suggest doing this. And, of course you would have great Bryan Kerchal stories. Take care.
Instincts are great. I try to work on it. I don't care if I ever get called a pro. I just want to have fun and catch a few. I love the big one but any are a kick.
Randy I love this video, why, you could not be more correct. There have been times when I instinctively; lets say this happens at times. I feel to put on a certain lure when I first arrive and cast it out. Not usually on the first cast but I catch one within a few minutes. you have got to feel the fish. A little story, the pond near where I use to work at. Had an hour lunch and would go down the road to the pond. It was spring and the first time that year on the first cast I caught one. That is exhilarating.👍
I’ve thought this for years. And it goes way beyond fishing. The old “trust your gut” rule works and yet we spend our lives trying to train it away. Plug into that universal life force!
One time I was fishing with my GF, we were walking to a spot we know and I suddenly stopped. She asked why, and I just silently threw my carolina rig. I knew there were fish. First 2 casts, 2 largemouth. Sometimes you just know. She was pretty excited to see that :)
Question, if your only catching small fish in an area should you move looking for larger fish? Another way of saying this is do like size fish school together?
This video goes hand in hand with Randy’s “Just Keep Your Mouth Shut” Intuitive Angling video. Fishing in tournaments against a bunch of hammers… you better be able to focus and fish instinctively, rather than fishing history, if you expect to consistently cash a check. (Unless you are a spot-lighter of course). Fishing with chatty friends or family is a different deal but can be just as enjoyable IMO. However, for me, intuition requires a relaxed focused mind, and a lot of conversation is a distraction. If someone is able to focus in spite of a lot of chatter -well good for them. I am 73 and mostly fish alone now that my long-time fishing buddies including my son have passed away. We all enjoy the company of fishing with our family and friends. But fishing alone or with a less talkative partner allows you to focus more, take in the sights and sounds of nature, and listen to what your intuition has to say. And in my experience, that is the very best way to consistently catch big bass.
One of the keys to developing your instincts and intuition is the ability to pay attention to details. Watch any accomplished pro closely and you will see they are constantly looking around trying to focus on small details while they are trying to locate fish ... are there birds in the area? What are the birds doing? Is there bait in the water? What's going on with the weather? Are clouds about to roll in? Is the wind starting to die down? Is anyone around you catching fish? And once you catch a fish, exactly where was that fish positioned when he struck? What's the water conditions where you caught the fish? Etc, etc, etc. people with great instincts usually are extremely good at paying attention to the smallest details ....
I agree overall. However, I have had days where I thought I should be doing well and nothing. So I'll do something that seems counterintuitive and it works. I guess it's all part of it.

99% of fishermen that only fish 20 times a year will likely never have any instinct. Great anglers put time on the water. A history of results. The greatest anglers have the mental ability to recall that history at the moment. Not on the ride home from the lake, like I normally do , lol.
It's funny how the trolls post they need ffs and in my river I caught 561 bass this year without anything. 😂 I use a kayak and no electronics and you have taught me a bunch of tips. I caught more fish because of your advice. Let them troll. This goes to other TH-cam channels also. I bet I could kick some ffs persons @$$ just fishing normal. Its called learn how to fish.

This is great stuff. Thanks Randy. 👍👍👍
Undervalued amongst fishermen : instincts. Great video Randy!

100% right! The reason it doesn’t get talked about much is because it’s free, there’s no product to sell a fisherman when it comes to “gut feeling”
When I pull up to my first spot, I feel good that I bought FFS!
Electronic instinct
Same here ffs just another mode of skill that haters do not have the mental capacity to achieve. This is obvious with Randy.
@@Garminrules and time saved from fishing an area void of fish.

spot on! 6th sense! Feeling is what its all about! if you know they are there, you need to switch up baits!

Personally I love these type of videos!

And there is no replacement for time on the water and the ability to recall the past at the moment when need be. And you only get out what you put in.
Yes, and once you keep being aware of these conditions, and start becoming more and more successful catching fish, you develop great CONFIDENCE.
Great video Randy.

Man, I know this isn't a video that will get you a bunch of views, but I really appreciate your insight.

My instincts usually wrong

My instinct tell me to bay some electronic :)... NICE VIDEO!
Some on the water action would be nice, your always just talking,
no offense. Seeing some actual fishing be cool,,
People don’t pay attention because you don’t even go fishing
yet here you are
@ he said nobody pays attention. More would if he actually did it on the water. It’s his most ubiquitous complaint.
Either you have fish guts, or you don’t. 🤷
