Pranams Bhagyaji ! How does chanting the Divine Names of God constitute penance? Is penance not going to the forest etc. ? You explained our Guru Maharaj's answer very lucidly : penance is of three types (through Shareera/body e.g. fasting, going on pilgrimages, doing angapradakshinam), through mind (dhyana etc.) and through Vak (chanting, mantra japa etc.) ; in the Kali Yuga the last is the simplest and most effective ! Jai Gurunath ! Radhe Radhe ! Pranams !

It is a common thought that penance is something that extra -ordinary effort like what Bhagirathan did alone is penance, but Sri Guruji compassionately defined penance, explained the three types of penance, and emphasized that Nama chanting is simplest among them and can be practiced by any person. Sri Guruji out of compassion towards mankind tirelessly travels across the country to propagate nama sankirthan, besides sending his disciples to propagate Mahamantra for the universal brotherhood.
