  • An introduction and walkaround video of my new to me 1948 Willys CJ-2A Jeep. It's going to be my new off road recovery rig for the upcoming snow rescue season. It has a Chevy small block 350 V8, SM-465 4 speed transmission, Dana 20 transfer case, with half ton Dana 44's front and rear. It also doesn't hurt that it looks like a mini version of the monster truck I used to drive!

    Nice Casey! And you are so right about the Dana 20s. Same with the Dana T 18 transfer cases. I’ve tried everything on my 1962 CJ5 to stop the leak. Drip…drip…drip

    I had a 47 willies when I was a young man about 50 years ago. I bought it at a military auction for $400 and drove at home. It had a PTO winch off the rear end. So we called it The Spider. very unusual and very helpful back when hardly anyone had winches on their rigs.

    The reciever hitch winch idea is what I use on my non tow truck rigs. I even have stingers welded up on my car trailers to mount my winches on. I have 2 Harbor Freight Badlands winches I use. Ones a 6 and the others an 8000 pound winch with wireless remote..

    Ahhh HA!!! I knew it!! When I saw you racing that Jeep around and drifting it, I thought you had some racing experience!!! I love watching Monster Trucks!! I am also a Huge Nascar fan!! My two favorite drivers were Carl Edwards ( 99 & 19, RFR & JGR) and now Martin Truex Jr ( #19 JGR) Used to be a Rusty Wallace fan too. No wonder you are so knowledgeable about mechanics and now do rescue in the mountains. Who were your sponsors in Monster trucks, Casey?? I'm going to Google Casey LaDelle & Monster Trucks so I can find some pics or video. 😊🏁🏁🏁

    Hot Stuff Mini! Great you can have fun and work at the same time. Life is too short. I would love to find a Willy in good shape. I think rock climbing is starting to give me an itch. I am not quite sure if doing that in my late 6o's is such a good idea. But flying airplanes here lately seems to be a killer lately. Not a pilot though. Just have been dreaming. I think rock and boulder climbing maybe a little safer hobby!

    Casey, Love your videos! This looks like a great rig, though I wonder if it's heavy enough to pull out something that's stuck and frozen in. You asked what should be added: Due to your latitude and that you're planning a lot of snow recoveries, more lighting will probably be a useful addition.

    Hey Casey
    Look on the back panel of the latest off road recovery vehicle.
    That looks a lot like JEEP !
    If the Jeep is going to stay black you can call it the Black Jeep of the family.
    Or the Black Sheep.
    Anyway, Looks like you purchased a great new to you toy.
    Also looks like you need to remove the rear seat to make room for the tools of recovery.
    Mostly a yankum/Matt's rope, soft shackles, hard shackles, maybe a J hook bridal.
    Maybe build a bracket/hanger somewhere on the roll bars for a D handle shovel ?
    Maybe a place for a hatchet/Axe ?
    I am sure you know what you need.
    Thanks fur the video.

    Here is an (insane?) idea: get a monster truck to use as a recovery rig. The big wheels should help on snow. Might be a problem fitting on narrow roads though.

  • @idadho
    @idadho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Casey, Have you ever considered vacuum powered brakes with an additional vacuum reservoir? Just like a big rig with a pressure tank. You'd have a few pedal strokes of brakes with the engine off.

    • @CaseyLaDelle
      @CaseyLaDelle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, and I've ran a very similar setup on a few of the monster truck I used to drive. But here's an even better question... Why?? It stops just fine as is, just like the monster trucks stop just fine with manual brakes. There is no point in adding additional components when they don't add any benefit.

    • @idadho
      @idadho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CaseyLaDelle Yes, if non-powered brakes work, why complicate things. The first 10 cars I owned did not have power brakes. Plus, non-powered brakes never grab and you can set up differential or independent braking. That welded rear will be interesting on tracks.

    Aesthetics for a business might be a new windshield and top. Then again this look can be a signature for you, though maybe break your own new windshield. Vibration can be bad for the glass if you carry customers.
