Looking back on it - D12 came back too soon that season. Had he come back in January/February of the 2012/2013 SZN, it would’ve been better than him rushing to start opening night. Kobe was in win now mode - he expected D12 to get it, and Kobe’s biggest fault imo, is not putting his arms around certain guys who needed his tutelage - D12 being an example.

Dwight and Kobe did not get along for two reasons. Dwight Howard wanted to be the face of the team. Howard was the “guy” for the Magic and the Magic was his team. He wanted the same status as he had in Orlando and didn’t want to be the 2nd lead or a supporting cast member on the Lakers team. The 2nd reason why they didn’t get along is because Howard had low work ethic. Kobe tried to push Howard to get up at 5am to workout in the gym and Howard was having none of it. Howard was holding a high chip on his shoulder at the time thinking he didn’t need to try hard because at the time he was one of the top 3 dominant centers in the league and he knew it too so he used that as an excuse not to work out because he was already at the top so why try more? In my opinion he doesn’t deserve his ring with LA he never apologized to Kobe or Kobe’s family after he passed away.

Chicago Bulls NEVER had an elite center playing the triangle. That was probably their weakest position. They did that in the era of the giants too.

It sounds good to talk about but there was no chance of it working. Dantoni could only coach one style and they needed Steve Nash to play that way, except Steve Nash was done by the time he got to LA. With Phil they maybe could’ve pivoted to the regular triangle with Kobe/Dwight, maybe, but Phil had worn out his welcome in LA and was already questionable with his playoff coaching in LA. It was basically all on Kobe/Dwight to pull off a miracle but Dwight was hurt and Kobe’s body was seriously breaking down after the Olympics & 4 straight finals runs with no load management. Kobe & Dwight both would’ve been better off just resting the season and getting healthy, they would’ve dominated by default if they came back healthy
