I would like to add that writing yourself into corner or making a plot hole during the 1st draft is not so bad. You can change previous writing to help yourself, but the biggest challenge (and more satisfaction) lies in making no changes or minimal changes to outsmart problem and defeat it. For example I made a plot hole by making a meeting between 2 characters too soon so they would have a possibility to avert tragedy of kids. Thinking how to do it I created better little story arc that I would do otherwise.
A full-time established author who makes enough to live on has nothing but time, but that doesn't mean that they have nothing but ideas, or nothing but energy, or nothing but passion. They are all mutually exclusive. On the other hand, we see those who are milling out books every quarter, and some might even be holding down a full-time job AND a family. Those types exist too. I was always told that a writer writes at their own pace. You're right about pantsers writing themselves into a corner, or potentially a plot hole. The good part is that, after you write the first draft, and after you discover that corner or plot hole, you have nothing but time to write yourself out of that corner, or write out that plot hole. You're only stuck as long as the pen remains out of your hand.
I wrote my first novel of 130k words in 2.5 months. Those were loooooong nights. And I wrote a novella of 48k words in a week. In the midst of a house move. I have no idea how I did that. 🤣 I remember hammering those words into my laptop very hard and very fast.
@@starklingspars8956 If you mean if the story was crap - no, it wasnt and isnt. Its still the first draft, but I went through it with a lot of determination and passion. I was even shocked about how coherent and nice it turned out. Maybe because I was already toying around with that idea for a few years. I already had it all crystal clear in my head and all I had to do was making it readable. I dont know if Ill ever publish it, but its a nice little story and it has a special place in my heart. And I only wrote it, because I didnt want to ruin the finale of my other book. I didnt think that the enviornment wouldve make it work out the way I intended. But it seems like it was good enough for a novella that I like.

My last booj was world built and drafted in dailed attekpts fir twenty years then I wrote it fully in a new draft in my early thirties. Now i started a new draft ladt november after inky a year and a half if worldbuilding and have stalled fir life reasins but i think the time iff helping it hrew will be good for it. Anyway rhat was unecessary info. Going to listen to the rest ❤❤
