    Tatyana, as a guitarist with over 55 years of performing, and almost that many years teaching, you touch on a very common topic that I work on with my students. You boil it down to the very essence of the challenges and express yourself very well. Great job, and beautiful playing!

    Well, I make a lot of faces when I play, I know what you say! But when you play, your facial expressions are true poetry! Nothing ugly! Nothing inelegant! You're pure beauty and talent, perfect little girl !!

    i usually very much enjoy the facial expressions and body movements of you great guitarists. For example when you play milonga i get a real sense of what the music means and is about just by your physical expressions. i have been watching Roshvan Mamedkuliev play gran jota and his his whole body moves with the piece and adds alot to it.

    I agree, thank you for the lesson.
    I wonder what it would be like, to be totally free; the beauty of music exists in honest self-expression.
    Just be yourself--whatever that is. Maybe it's an art of discovery.

    Music is processed in the language portion of the brain. Just as language can range from dispassionate to enraged, musical interpretation is an emotional experience for the player as well as the listener. Some artists are flamboyantly emotional, while others are austere.
    Personally, I prefer moderation at either end of the range =)

    Sometimes making faces means just channelling your concentration. Trying to avoid it is taking some concentration away from the play. But you can practice and internalize looking relaxed as you can practice playing. Speaking of fun - try to play Lagrima with a zombie face.

    Hi Tatyana! It's just the fact that you start talking about this issue yourself that I want to share my thoughts and response here in your post. Let me first say that I realy appreciate your musicality and your passionate playing the guitar. You are realy well worth listening to ánd watching also, a beautiful personality on the stage. What I want to explain here is not at all ment cynical or destructive, on the contrary: it is a serious thought about the same thing worth promoting: how to bring convincing performance when playing music for an audience. So here is my thought: of course I have seen many times videorecordings of you, playing beautiful guitarmusic. It is Obvious that you have a particular, and for sure very personal and unique way of "facial expression" while playing. You seem to communicate with your guitar, not only in your mind, and through your very capable fingers, but also in a way that makes me think that you want to show this communicating to the outside world, the public that is watching you. It may be that you bring this attitude also to your playing when nót in the picture, nót being videorecorded or nót playing in a concert, so for example also when you are, as many musicians can recognise, just on yourself, in the kitchen, in the garden, alone with the guitar. I mention this because I can almost imagine a possible response on my remark that you are nót doing this for public, but realy for your own. It still remains a too particular and for me strange way of expression nevertheless. It is almost as if you are telling a story, being in a conversation with your instrument as if the guitar was a person, a little child almost, or a loved one, to wich you smile, ask questions, look away from, to come back by surprise...it is funny, not at all a problem for me, but at the same time gives me a feeling of looking at an amateur actor in a movie that I was not expecting when my intention was not more and not less than opening my mind for a piece of music in the first place, rahther than a demonstration storytelling, with the many repeated facial expressions as you make them. In fact I find these very distracting and to my opinion nothing bringing as an extra for the music, that you express more than satisfying through your sound alone. Apologise again for my cautious but serious objections, if I may use that word, against your too much explaining and showing a relation between you and your guitar. To come back to my remark about the actor: even in filmmovies actors can realy disturb the story by too much showing "what is in their mind". My experience in this is that those actors who show too much (facial expression)are in fact the less convincing in bringing the story. Now that you present this topic about "facial tension" I am afraid that this particular and personal way of your presenting yourself may become an almost basic or principal choice or advice or suggestion to players who suffer tension, and show this, when performing. Although I agree that this issue is a very important one I realy hope that the solution for treating this performance tension will not bring as a result that future generation performers on stage are more and more having the looks of a friendly puppeteer acting for an audience of young children in a fairytale theatre. Also it is too much distracting, both for the public watching, but also for the music performer, to constantly repeat a small number of explicit expressions to guide the music: a smile, a question, a wondering, a sudden raised eyebrow. All very good against facial tension, but to my opinion not at all necesary for the main thing: expressing music. I also think that music does not need this way of explanation. It will sooner be flattened by it I guess. Again I want you to know that I do not mean this in any agressive or negative way. You are a wonderful musician. The only thing I would like to suggest is: just relax, don't act too much. As a general idea for any performer in music. Cheers! Reli

      Reli Suyskens individuality is a great thing and in my opinion I love the expressive nature of Tatyana’s performances.
      I understand your point but I don’t feel it was necessary to point out.
      Many players are expressive with their emotions during a piece. Whether it’s movement or eye brow raises or even a look of deep emotion during a moody section.
      Some people are naturally expressive with their hands and face even during general conversation.
      I believe Tatyana is just a very expressive player and this shows through her musical expressions.
      Don’t go changing is what I say 👍🏼

    • @ReliSuyskens
      @ReliSuyskens 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaysysumakaRatMaster3 I strongly believe that "individuality" has nothing to do with this "mimicing music". Also because this aspect of performing is more than less presented with didactical intentions, and probably, as can be seen already in more and more videos by other young artists, being copied by other "individualists". So from that point of view alone I cannot see why I would not be "allowed" to speak out my opinion. Wich I did, hopefully, in a way to bring this to thought, rather than making anyone ridiculous. Expressiveness is also not at all an issue. It is about cliché's in "expressiveness" wich are, also in their appearance too much not more than a few sterotypical "moods" to show. It is far from natural, and certainly not adding to the musical expression itself. It's a misunderstanding that "happy" music should be guided with a "happy" face, and "sad" music by as "sad" face etcetera. As I explained already: miss Tatyana certainly is a fine and expressive player. Instead of helping performers with a problem by handing superficial solutions about "expressiveness" I can only repeat to herself as well as to her many followers: relax and concentrate on the music and let it speak for itself. And of course, don't block you face, I agree, but let it free. I think, to quote yourself, that you do understand my point. Cheers!

      Hi Reli! Thank you so much for your comment and your opinion! You know in this video I am talking more about facial tension and not facial expression. I have noticed that it seems to be one of the most common problems and I just analyze what reasons could be and how you can solve this problem (if you want to solve it). I am not talking about necessity to express yourself with facial emotions, even if I believe that it helps to understand the music and it could take place. If I see musician playing I see the whole picture: his posture, his movements, his dress, his face, his attitude, atmosphere around - everything! This complete picture together with music creat a special moment. If I don't want to SEE- I put CD and just listen to 😉 I think for many people it works like that. But of course somebody likes white, somebody likes black. But they have something in common - they like colors. So you like no facial expressions and I like them, but we also have something in common - we both love music 😉

    • @ReliSuyskens
      @ReliSuyskens 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tatyana, thank you for your friendly response. I think it is clear that this subject can provide another and possibly endless more attention. It is also clear that we have a bit different opinion on it, apart from my very willing to agree on the general idea of expression to be a basic quality of any art. Your conclusion that I do not like facial expression is not quite right. I just don't like the overdone intention of showing something wich has to be understood as (facial) expression and therefore explanation of the music through the face. That is a big difference. My impression also is that your analysis of facial tension and the forthcoming consequences, the example as you present yourself, in looking for an answer in facial expression is an issue that realy exposes a difference between us. Also, there is a lot more to see and experience while attending a musician's performance: indeed posture, handling of the instrument, the general look, even facial expression, but perhaps a less programmed one...to give more room to the music itself. Anyway, we differ and that's no problem at all. Thanks again for your indeed friendly respect and space for our difference in opinion. If it is more comfortable for you I will leave the discussion and delete my posts here with all respect for you and your great art and passion. Cheers, Reli.

    • @tatyanaryzhkova
      @tatyanaryzhkova  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Reli, you don't need to delete your post - there should be always space for discussion and another opinion 😉 especially if it's expressed in friendly and respectful way.
