    If you’re ever in one of those “locked puzzle room” horror scenarios, forget the Swiss Army knife, you’d better have a Bardwell with you. 🤓🎄🎁🎅 Great Video 😊

    Hi JB. Thanks for this video.
    I was wondering if the trim parameter I'm the yaw axis make sense: the accelerometer should doesn't make any variations along that axis in angle mode. An I correct?

  • @jpsalis

    throttle trim is most useful for nitro planes, allows you to set the idle more easily, not useful for us but it's another free input, could be used for flaps or something if you're really lacking channels

  • @cwwisk
    @cwwisk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Throttle trim is basically just for internal combustion engines on airplanes, vehicles, etc... I use it for other stuff when I'm not flying my gas or nitro planes. Just FYI lol

  • @WernerBeroux
    @WernerBeroux 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have a Betaflight LUA script. What we need is that trims do the equivalent of stick shortcuts but mid flight (i.e. trim the gyro).

  • @WillhelmFirst
    @WillhelmFirst 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Can you tell me if there is a script that saves the last position of the channel? What is the idea - when you turn on the toggle switch on the pitch, assign another channel (for example, camera tilt or volume). For example, I use the patch to set the value to -50 and turn off the toggle switch. During normal operation, the new channel is reset to 0, and I want it to remember the value -50, until the next time, until I activate the tumbler again and set the value with a pitch.

    Hi. All my gear is ancient and I was going to replace it with two Boxers. One in mode 1 for my fixed wing stuff and one in mode two for my Nitro Helicopter. Not used "open" stuff before but I expect it's easier once you have a unit in your hand to follow through with your videos.
    Question is 1 Fixed wing; when coupled aileron/rudder is set up can you then set one of the rotary knobs to adjust the coupled weight in flight?. and 2 Helicopter; Can the rotary knobs be used for "Hover" pitch and throttle trim (or would that require a TX16 withT5 and T6) and can the momentary switch be set for engine kill (fully closed throttle)? . Just before I splash the cash.

    I want to use my trim buttons on a Jumper t-lite to do other stuff, like as extra buttons in the simulator to reset or whatever. Like so they're extra buttons and don't do trim at all. Is there any way to do that?

  • @snppla
    @snppla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This tutorial could apply to rc helicopters and airplanes as well as they have the same kind “angle”, “agility” (or just manual) modes where they may want trims enabled only in certain flight modes and not others.

    • @shizackel
      @shizackel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering about that. My TREX470 with iKon2 fbl is a rock on a string on agility mode, but if I hit autolevel it invariably drifts mild/moderately port+aft. I thought about something like this but since a fbl reads trim as constant input I feared it would reach level but continue into a starboard+fore drift.
      I'll probably give this a try when I finish the re-setup and get out again.

    I have no idea if I am asking too much but I wish there was a way the trims would just calibrate the accelerometer in flight. There are stick commands that just to that but the quad must land and you have to memorize weird stick positions.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Modes tab, set up your momentary switch to activate the CALIB mode. It will calibrate the accelerometer to wherever your sticks are when you activate it.

    • @kyakfsh
      @kyakfsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This functionality would be especially useful for the various GPS rescue and auto landing modes. Those rely on the accelerometer to be nicely trimmed.

    • @alainassaf
      @alainassaf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyakfsh Interesting. I assumed it used mostly gps coordinates changes to get the correct direction and speed.

    • @kyakfsh
      @kyakfsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alainassaf It does. But the foundation of GPS Rescue is angle mode. If the quad drifts while hovering in angle mode, it will also drift during GPS Rescue, and the various PID loops need to compensate for that drift.

    Mr. J.B, thanks for the video. It is very simple to fallow, but for some reason, I don't get the trim to stop functioning on the radiomaster boxer. I set it up as you did on the radiomaster Zorro, but when I look at the channel monitor page on the boxer, the trim still work regardless the position of my angle mode switch. Is there something I am missing?

  • @jas-FPV

    Why not flightmodes??
    Thats what flightmodes are also for. They have dedicated trim settings. Just set angle with differential trims to standard. Done
    Much easier

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that will work. But in acro mode, channels should always center, so I like the idea of disabling trims entirely.

  • @martr

    Great content. However, using Flight Modes is the easy way to do this.

  • @fpv_am
    @fpv_am 2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @yngndrw.
    @yngndrw. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't believe you need the switch (and inverted switch) on both inputs - just the first one. I believe the logic is that it uses the first active input, then ignores any remaining inputs for that channel. Confirmed on the OpenTX simulator but I don't have my real controller to hand. (Or EdgeTX)

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's true. But the programmer in me likes to be thorough and not rely on fall-through conditions. And I wanted to demonstrate the "negate" function, which I suspect a lot of people don't know about.

  • @nothingbutadreambutm
    @nothingbutadreambutm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The better option is actually to trim your accelerometer with stick commands. I did never think to have the radio handle this so I think this is a sick video, A cool video idea would be to have this input stick commands to trim the acc.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right. But you can't do that in flight and it's cumbersome to do it quickly like between heats at a race.

    • @nothingbutadreambutm
      @nothingbutadreambutm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshuaBardwell Ahh this is true wish we could beg betaflight for a feature to adjust acc on a switch

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It already exists. The mode is called "CALIB" in the Modes tab. When you activate that mode, the ACC will calibrate to whatever stick position you are holding.

    • @kyakfsh
      @kyakfsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We really need to be able to trim the accel during flight with trim switches to make it practical to tune the accel for GPS rescue, auto landing, and someday soon position hold.

    • @nothingbutadreambutm
      @nothingbutadreambutm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshuaBardwell the main issue is that simply holding throttle at full and moving the stick to the left or right trims the acc by one degree per second. Trim no matter what will remove resolution for flying and making quick movements needed for racing harder in some cases. I tend to tune each acc per craft to get the best result. No matter what betaflight is still using 1-2000 for resolution and trim cuts into that resolution.

      The nice thing is that if you plug in a USB charger, you can run the Zorro indefinitely. We do this on my robotics team to use it as an ultra precise USB input device. Though, there may be a limit if the transmitter isn't disabled.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can't re-calibrate mid-flight. And with a tiny whoop, it can be difficult to calibrate because the battery is on bottom and the drone isn't level. Sometimes you just want to trim it and be done.
