Yes. Their first section is so damn powerful, and it's by far my favorite part of the whole performance. Just because it's filled with such eerie calmness. It's a great example of the calm before the storm, that you can see crackling to life.
I was lucky to watch her live in NYC, all hell broke loose after her performance of "oughta know", the audience erupted in applause and cheers. I'd say that the standing ovation at the end of the show was 80% for her. I wish there were an official recording of her performance available online & from abroad !
Same here! We were so incredibly fortunate to see Jagged Little Pill on Bdway, with Lauren Patten singing this number, before the Covid shut-down. Her performance was so fantastical that it would have been impossible for the audience NOT to stop the show with a standing ovation for this phenomenal singer!
Lauren earned her Tony Award. She really took “You Outta Know” to a new level. She has a wonderful, strong voice, and she used it perfectly. Not, only is she musically talented, she is a very talented actress. I know her best from “Blue Bloods”. Lauren, I thank you for your performance, and I hope you have many more years of great performances to come😊😊
I saw it soon after Covid close to when Broadway reopened. At the show I was at, Lauren's performance of You Oughta Know earned her a standing ovation from the entire audience. I have seen hundreds of Broadway shows and never have I experienced a standing ovation in the smack middle of the show. Was an unforgettable moment.
Such a strong performance. I can't get enough of it. The motionless dead pen stares, the ache that she it trying to remove from her body, the emotions her face goes through, the anger at the end. Every time we get to the chorus its a different emotion. Brilliance.
I'll never forget Lauren singing this live. She literally stopped the show with a standing ovation (her two songs were the best things in the "Jagged Little Pill" musical). She absolutely deserved that Tony.
as a genderqueer person, despite all of the crazy transphobic shit that happened behind the scenes with Jo, Lauren’s version will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. it’s just so fucking good and there’s no denying that. iris menas would have been great in the role however, if zie had been cast from the beginning and was given the space to become Jo rather than hir just understudying the role. and there are a lot of things about iris’ performance that are great! but Lauren blew people out of the water and for good reason imo.

Everything I’ve heard so far about the Australian production, which has Jo played exclusively by non-binary performers, has given me a lot of hope. I am optimistic that the North American touring production and the West End production will follow suit. Lauren is a great actress and everything, but it’s safe to say that her time with Jo is done. I hope that whatever she does next will be great and controversy-free. As for iris, zie most definitely deserved better; but zie also blew me away as Anybodys in “West Side Story”. So hopefully, hir career will be more rewarding now.

Like goddamn, Lauren performs this song SO well but it's also conflicting because other than Jo, I can't think of another non binary character in any show, and that's why it's even so much more important to not only not change Jo's character into a cis female, but to cast people who are non binary in that role.
Seeing the Boston run of Jagged Little Pill was a life changing experience for me, and Lauren's performance in this song was powerful (it's the only time I've ever seen a song in the middle of an act get a standing ovation). It's been so upsetting to see how the Jagged Little Pill team reacted to being called out, how they tried to lie about Jo being nonbinary in the original run, and how they've treated other actors.

Lauren is without doubt one of the most talented performers for a long time and her depiction of Jo is absolutely stunning. I know there’s a lot of controversy around the character and in my opinion rightly so but I have a theory about it. I think they were afraid that because American life has become more dictated by religious groups and their beliefs that it would affect people coming to see the show. But that’s just garbage I don’t have a problem with anyone’s religious views and will defend them if they need it but to allow it to be used to control people is not the point of the bible. I’m so glad that the gender debate has changed the landscape because I didn’t fit in my own skin for fifty years. But now thanks to the bravery of those fighting to change opinion I am proud to say I’m non binary and autistic and I’m happy. But back to Lauren the thing I like best is that what you are watching is someone having a breakdown but externally and you see every emotion anyone who’s ever been hurt feels inside. The musical as a whole has so many elements that are personal to me that I find it really cathartic to watch the entire cast are amazing. I’m a survivor of childhood rape I was ten when it started and nobody believed me so it carried on for two years I’ve been constantly confused by my own identity and sexuality. The biggest one for me though is that I’m currently fighting codeine addiction and have been for ten years and recently finally admitted I have a problem and sought help. Alanis has saved me so many times over the years with her amazing ability to write songs that get into people’s hearts and help us heal. I would like to say before I bore you completely that Iris as a Jo alternate is also an excellent performer she brings her own twist to Jo whilst retaining some of Lauren’s mannerisms and whilst not quite as vocally strong is just as good. And let me just say, not only was there a standing ovation after the song was over, but everyone stayed up for a solid couple minutes! She totally deserved it too
at 3:41 you can tell Lauren is really having fun with it which I think is so cool because she's so in character and she's conveying Jo's rage so well but she's also being herself and having the time of her life doing so!
The whole entire video grips me, but the last note just takes all the emotion and talent and PUNCHES you in the heart. Anyone who has had heartbreak feels the emotion. Bravo a thousand times over.

I loved the focus line and the still moments, I needed the movement as we got towards the end of the song to be more about ensemble and letting her continue to genuinely and from strength feel those moments

By far the most powerful theatre moment I have ever witnessed and it’s gotta be seen more people! So glad I was lucky enough to see them twice and that performance lives rent free in my head.
jagged little pill. kinda hard to explain briefly since there are multiple plotlines around several different characters, but I'd say the focus is s*xual assault and the aftermath of it, and how the trauma from that can stay in people for a long time
