Today we learned that baseball legend Wille Mays passed away on June 18, 2024. This poem is from Peter Meinke's collection called Lucky Bones. Tonight, June 19, 2024, he reads his poem in honor of Willie Mays.
Peter and Gretchen - thank you inexpressibly. That is one aim a poem aspires to - I would think - ineffability. I see so many inward and internally conceived structures - echoes - reflexes - allusions rich and varied. I’d love to enjoy sporting myself at writing about it further. Since I have all your books of poetry (and prose) --- would you (or Gretchen) please let me know in which book(s) this poem appear(s) ? David Glass
Thank you for this marvelous tribute, Dr. Meinke!
