    I am Somali and we strictly use our right hand for eating. Like wode Maya said left hand is for the bathroom. It's definitely an East African custom too. It's forbidden to eat with left hand

    Trudy, I did that in Uganda and they told me I shouldn't use my left hand while eating, It's against their culture. So it's not just a west African thing. I love your vlogs by the way.

    Oh yes! Egusi soup is the bomb. I made it with king fish, pumkin, beets greens & it was delicious. I can only imagine the depth of the flavors in the real Egusi soup, looking forward.

    Yes Miss Trudy even in Coast they refer to left hand 🤚 as the toilet hand .....you don’t use it to eat, greet or pass someone anything, they see it as disrespect. So you go to Rome do as they do

    Traditionally, in Africa, it's appropriate to greet people using your right hand. However, I struggled alot while growing up because I'm left handed. In my late adulthood, I'm now comfortable to greet people with my right hand. I still use my left hand to write and when eating with a spoon.

    In Ghana we eat 'kokonte' (amala) with groundnut soup or palm but soup and the 'Ayoyo' soup (ewedu) is eaten with 'tuo zaafi' with all the intestines, towel, meat etc very delicious

    Of all the African countries I have been to, only Ghanaian and Senegalese meals I really enjoyed. I love Nigeria and Nigerians, but I had a really difficult times eating the food while I lived there. Itwasn't so in Ghana. The Ghanaians have this very distinguished traditional style of preserving their meals. I mean, in the streets, the food are placed in glasses. I enjoyed it so much there. Similar experience in Senegal.

      Which part did you visit in Nigeria? If is lagos, south west. If you want real food in Nigeria visit the Niger delta. Food you eat mostly in lagos, Abuja are corrupted taste. When next you visit Nigeria go to the Niger delta and eat banga soup the best soup in the world.

    It also came to my mind right now that you also chew Fufu when you were in Ghana and you are also chewing Amala here instead of swallowing it. I can see and feel that you are not use to our kinds of food in west Africa but I appreciate your love and courage for taking part (eating)our cultural food.     Oh this is a staple food for a certain tribe in Uganda and about the vegetable soup miss Trudy well you need to come back in Uganda if it's not there in Kenya 😍😍😍😍we always use the right hand and it's a don't in our culture to use the left while eating

    We have amala in both dry yam and dry cassava. The dry cassava is called amala funfun or you called it lafun.

      There are. It was a cultural hygiene traditional matter that has honestly worn out its purpose. Soap wasn't as common back then and that it why this was important to reserve a hand for cross-contamination-free matters. It's now just a useless tradition. Love from a Nigerian
