Is this really necessary? I swapped in an everstart maxx battery from Walmart size h5 identical size to the original battery and has been running fine. Should I still buy obd11 and reprogram the car?
When I made this video, I was unaware that programming is only necessary if the car has a BCM attached to the negative battery terminal. Mine does not. I *think* only the cars with automatic start/stop have this feature. I'm fairly certain that feature was not introduced until the 2018 models (in the U.S.). Over half of Mk7s will feature automatic start/stop by the time the Mk8 hits our shores as a 2022 model. So, this video still applies to most. That's what I'll tell myself, anyway. ;-) Also, "Fleece" is the appropriate battery selection for AGM batteries. Thanks for visiting.
@Mark Seven or higher voltage ? Anyway qtn: my Audi Q7 VARTA H15 was replaced with a similar Delkor LN5. It had no BEM. I looked online, some people said changed existing adaptation thingo by 1 in the serial number. I did that. Any advice ?

My 2016 GTI battery just died and this was by far the most informative replacement video I've come across to describe the DIY replacement effort. Thank you!
Just purchased and installed this exact same battery! Back to watch the coding to finish up 😁 I have the 2018 Autobahn with auto stop/start / active battery management so my battery is 4 years old. Mine did come with an Austrian built Banner brand Group 48 H6 flooded battery stock. I did use a hand towel on the airbox and didn't have to remove it! Thank you again for this thorough walkthrough.
@@StealthGTI oh wait, I chose [something]/AGM! The [something] word I think was "combination". What is FLEECE?! I'm hoping the lower amp hours doesn't affect my functionality. I would like to go camping and not overuse the battery. My old battery had 69 amp hours in this one's only 67ah
@@StealthGTI okay I just went Googling and went to a couple Audi forums and the general assumption is that fleece is a for translation for AGM battery possibly the whole absorbed glass mat fiberglass kind of thing getting translated to fleece? Thanks for the heads up. I can't see anyone advocating for the Binary/AGM. I can't seem to figure out what that battery designation is even for? Did you find any information on that cause now I'm curious! 😆
Did you have any problems with getting the ground cable to reach to the X2 battery? I have a 2016 Autohahn edition and the ground cable will not reach no matter what I do. Tried to move the bracket around that the ground is bolted to and nothing doing. Had to return the X2 and thinking maybe the 2016 Autobahn GTI wont fit a group 48 batter.
@Ken Estrada no everything works perfectly. It fills the whole battery tray in my car, so it's not the smaller one for sure. I have the auto start-stop feature so my battery was already larger since I had all the electronics and the upgraded sound system and all that.
Great video, just followed yours and a few others as guide to install DieHard H6 AGM battery, worked like a charm. Although I did not immediately do the obdeleven coding where I've seen a few others not do it and it has worked well, but I do intend to make the coding change. Thanks again. For reference my mk7 was picked up in October of 2015 and oem battery lasted until now, only about 55k miles on the odometer though.
Thanks for sharing! My AGM battery has tolerated a lot of abuse. My ham radio setup has a switch that I sometimes forget to turn off. So, I've drained my battery completely a few times. The car started fine using my Autowitz SuperCap2. See this video for details: th-cam.com/video/MeYAv-akbak/w-d-xo.html. Take Care!
Just wanted to thank you for your info. The battery died in my '17 R and your steps made it very clear as to what changes to make in OBD11. I ended up getting the same battery as you did. So, it simplified it even more. :)
For the base plate, I listened 6 the bolts for the airbox and I just moved the box to the side. Didn't have an extension and moving the box made it possible to unbolt the mounting plate
Very nice! What are you installing? Have you seen my Amateur Radio video? It's just a voiceover, but it details what's in the car, although the display has been relocated twice since then. Thanks for visiting! -Scott
@@StealthGTI Yes, seeing that video is why I subbed to your channel. :) I'm installing an ICOM 208H. Love what you did with the antenna mount in the shark fin hole, so I'm definitely copying that.
@@vitaflo - Excellent! I hope you're already familiar with 208H use. I borrowed a 208H when I was first exposed to D-STAR and found it frustrating, mostly because I didn't understand what I was doing or already know how to use the radio (I was a Yaesu man at the time). Operating mobile wasn't going to happen! HAHA! The newer Icom radios are more intuitive, IMO, especially the 5100 with its touchscreen. Regarding the antenna mount, have a look at my write up at stealthgti.com/my-gti/communications/adapting-the-factory-antenna-hole-to-nmo/, if you haven't already seen it. The link is a bit buried on my site, so there's no obvious path to it. It covers my antenna installation a little better.
@@StealthGTI Yeah I've had the 208H forever, it used to be installed my 2008 Mazda 3 hatchback, which I've since replaced with my GTI. I mostly operate mobile for SKYWARN (I'm licensed), and I found the 208H pretty awesome for that task (once I programmed it ;). Thanks for the link, the gutted view of the wiring really helps. I have the workshop manual for the GTI so I wasn't too concerned about taking the car apart (did it with the Mazda too), but pictures really make the task easier. Thanks again.
SLI is used for the standard Lead Acid battery and stands for Starter/Lights/Ignition. Another thing to take note off is your alternator should be checked to see if it can support a bigger battery, before you buy a bigger battery.
Amazing video! I have a 2015 audi a3 quattro and my battery recently died, I went ahead and ordered a new one but its an optima yellow top AGM, Im just waiting for my OBDeleven to show up this week so I can get everything dialed in, thanks for the step by step instructions this should really make it easy for me.
Great video. Agree with your sentiment re the quality of the batteries now being provided in new builds - quality versus cost. Our 2006 1.9TDI Mk5 had the original conventional wet plate battery from new until December 2020 when it was replaced. Good value, performance and longevity. Our 2017 2.0DGT Mk7 with a EFB+ battery now only holds bare minimum charge and on short drives will only give a few starts before it shows signs of distress. We do not have any additional electrical or mechanical items fitted, all as per OEM on purchase. Battery should be an AGM for the stop / start tech that the car has per all the info I have reviewed. Certainly quality compromised for cost reduction. AGM being fitted later this week.
You can connect a battery jump starter (like a snap on 1700) to the interior accessory socket (ignition has to be on obviously) in order to not lose settings......
I've found no downside to disconnecting the battery other than the loss of my trip distance counter. Everything works fine after a battery swap. Thanks for visiting.
I disconnected my battery to my 2020 VW Atlas to install amp for my subwoofer. Everything went well except the blindspot and rear cross traffic alert keeps turning off. I have to manually activate but turns off when I put the car to reverse. Is this related to battery coding? Any recommendations? Thanks 🙏
I don't think battery coding is a factor here. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with those systems and cannot say with authority how to resolve your issue. Try a VW discussion group such as FB or VWVortex. Good luck and thanks for visiting.

AGM battery use to be Binary or Fleece, saw you choosed Binary, what about Fleece saw many forums discussions.on this.. Still no clear info... Do you know more?
@@StealthGTI Mine was Fleece from manufacture setup for Varta, but did change with Exide EK700, and for test purpose changed technology for BinaryAGM and in comparsion to Fleece it shows about 20% charge less, interesting, means BinaryAGM will charge battery more than with Fleece setup, here then is a question open. But seems Fleece is right.
I just replaced my battery on a 2016 gti and my power steering doesn’t work at all. Without a scanning tool, if I were to drive the car will the power steering eventually kick in? Right now I have 7 faults showing including my power steering, ESC, tire pressure, transmission, wipers, suspension, adaptive front lights
I don't think you'll lose any stored settings. The reason for recoding is to inform the Gateway module that there's a new battery so that it resets its "learning" or charging behavior. That's my understanding, anyway. Many have replaced their battery without recoding. I have no idea how skipping the recoding affects battery life. Thanks for visiting.
Figured out how to do this on my 2017 Golf R prior to watching this video, but this is spot on and exactly how I did it! Wish I had watched your video first for that. Thank you for the OBD 11 tips! Please add "Golf R" to your title as well!
Thanks! The factory size is a snap. I replaced the original battery in my daughter's 2015 Golf yesterday with a Duracell Group 47 AGM. She's away for another month or longer. So, her maintenance is on me.
My battery went dead on my 2016 GTI it has the auto start stop button so I had the battery charged and put it back in the car do I need to do a battery adaptation after having the battery charged
I'm sure a VW dealer would say YES while an independent mechanic would say NO. Sure, it'll work; but will it work to its best potential? I don't know. Good Luck!
Hello, Sorry for the real late question but did you run into any problems with the alternator not being able to fully charge this battery? I have a 2016 GTI Autobaun Ed. Unitronic Stage 2 and I want to install this very same battery, just waiting for my OBD11 to get here. I do have the push button start also. Any information would be appreciated.
I've never noticed a problem. I have a follow-up video that tells how long the battery lasted. I think it went 2.5 years, but I was REALLY hard on it with my electrical loads. Thanks for visiting!
@StealthGTI you mentioned to code the battery *before* u start the engine. I did it wrong. I started the engine without any coding and learned the car would start and immediately turn off. The error msg is "Button for driver assistant system defective". Do you think I got this msg because I didn't code?
Anybody else with a 2016 GTI Autobahn Edition have problems with the ground cable not reaching? Not even close for me. Tried to loosen the bracket that the ground is mounted to and it still is to far away. Maybe the 2016 GTI Auitobahn wont fit a group 48?
Best case, nothing; worst case is the BMS doesn't recognize that the battery is new and may undercharge as a result since it thinks the capacity may be as reduced as the old battery. Just a guess, though. Read this topic for more details: www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7926 Good luck!
Is "Binary-AGM the correct setting? Many accross the various forums say that cars from the factory with AGM batteries are coded to the "Fleece" setting.
Thanks for this guide. Just replaced Alltrack battery today. The blanket KIND OF fits, I just disconnected it in the back so it almost covers. One thing - how the hell do you find the amp hours value for the battery? I didn’t see it anywhere on the battery or on the website (duralast gold group 48 agm from autozone)
Some manufacturers don't list their capacity in amp hours. For comparison, my battery's "reserve capacity" is 135. I forgot the math on how to convert that to amp hours. I'm sure it's on the web somewhere. Take Care!
I have no idea. I doubt that the rate charges beyond the difference of potential, IF the charging voltage is higher than a flooded battery. I know that's not a great answer; but I did say "I have no idea." ;-) I switched to AGM with the hopes of experiencing longer lifespan. So far, that hasn't been the case. But I've been running a second battery and hope to have better data in a few years, if the car is still on the road. Thanks for visiting!
I have a 2017 gti performance package and to my understanding it doesn’t have auto start stop but it does have the push to start, will I still need to code my ECU?
Thanks for the guide! I do have a question that hopefully you can answer. I just installed a new DieHard 48H6 Gold into my 2017 GTI SE. NOWHERE does it list the AH, so I can properly input that into OBD11. I've even been talking with the DieHard support all morning, and they still can't find it. The battery that came out was listed at 60AH, and I'm assuming this one would have a slightly higher AH number. My Euro mechanic says not to worry if I don't have it, and nothing is going to blow up if that number isn't spot on, but I'd still like to have things done properly, regardless. I did go in and change the serial number so my car knows there is a new battery installed. How'd you find your AH number? It's not listed on my battery and no one at AutoZone or DieHard can tell me. Or, will I be okay to just put that at 63 or 65 and be ok?
I've found formulas that result in inconsistent results. One "rule of thumb" is to divide the reserve capacity, which is 115 minutes on your battery, by two, which results in 57.5 Ah. A more complicated formula spits out 48 Ah. That seems low for a group 48 battery. But I don't think it matters. After publishing this video, I learned that the OBD entry only matters on car with a BMS. If your car does not have an auto-start/stop function when you stop for intersections, then you very likely do not have a BMS. I'd leave the stock value and call it a day. Thanks for visiting!
I’m having an issue on my mk7 I also have amps with lci7 setup but issue is when I turn the car it says system starter fault and does 3 beeps then takes like 2 mins for the power to shut off is this cuz I never did battery adaption when I switched over batteries or is this from something else ?
@@Vulcankrypto21 - Interesting. I have no experience with that issue. I'd start by removing power from the LC7i and any amps, just to isolate your system, and then see if the fault continues. Good Luck!
I couldn't tell you. I don't have a Varta. If you do, it should be printed on the label. If it's not, just make something up, such as "VAR" and stick with it. Thanks for visiting.
What are signs of a low battery. Today I started the car and as soon as I pulled away. The tire sensor, ecs lights came on. And also a hesitation when applying throttle for a moment. So I drove down the block and turned it off then turned it back on and no lights. The car drove fine(drove her for 15min). Is the a sign of a battery dying?
Joe - It's tough to say whether it is your battery or your alternator. I *THINK* you'd get a warning light if it was your alternator. If that's not the case, I'd suspect your alternator as much as the battery. Most major auto parts stores will test your battery for free. Good Luck!
@StealthGTI howdy sir, you mentioned windows having problems after disconnecting the battery. My Mk7 has that and after i set the windows it works fine for a few runs and then it forgets the setting and i have to reprogram them again and again. Do you know of any permanent fix? Thank you!
My window problem was expected and resolved when I reset the limits. I have not experienced the windows "forgetting" their limits once they're programmed. You might find a better answer at GolfMk7.com. Thanks for visiting!
I'm about to upgrade my battery from EFB to AGM and code it with OBD11. I noticed you coded the technology 'Binary -AGM'. Has everything been ok? Some people say use the 'Fleece' option.
Paul - You have a good eye! To be honest, I selected "Binary-AGM" simply because it was the only option that contained "AGM." Now that I'm aware of what "Fleece" means, I'm inclined to wonder which selection is more accurate. I'll contact the manufacturer of my battery for details. With that said, I have not experienced any troubles with my current settings. I'll follow up if I learn more. Thanks! -Scott
Paul Smith I was just wondering about this myself, did you guys get any further infomation? I heard the the standard agm is called fleece in germany, so whats binary agm?
@@shishuali4821 That's right, VW calls (standartd) AGM battery "Fleece", and that "binary-AGM" option is for different spcific type of AGM batteries, so the correct value for AGM batteries (...unless on the battery is differently specified), is "Fleece". P.S. the most important part of this coding, is cahnging at least one figure of the serial number...that thells the BCM to 'forget' the previous values, and 'accept' the new ones, since there's a new battery fitted, which need to be 'learnt'.
Seems like it should, so long as it has the bottom clamping area. I honestly don't know if "Group 47" describes a preset size, mounting method, pole position, capacity, or all. If it describes all aspects, then you should be good. Just make sure you get the polarity correct. Some have messed it up since the positive wire is no longer red, as it was in the olden days. Thanks for visiting.
Great video! What would have happened if you weren’t able to code the car? Would the car have still run? I have a 2017 GTI (US model) with a dead battery. People (even VW techs) are saying “just put the new battery in and drive it.”
Nicholas - Consider the possibility that some "people (even VW techs)" are not aware of new technology. For example, I saw MANY old school recommendations given to TDI drivers that were simply terrible advice for a modern turbodiesel: everything from fuel additives to oil selection to using the "mark and pray" method for timing belt changes. Back to the battery, I think the best case is that your car is old enough to not have the Battery Monitoring System (BMS). If that's the case, then it is correct to "just put the new battery in and drive it." If your car has BMS, then you'll need to code the car if you replace it with anything other than an identical battery. Otherwise, the car may not recognize the different capacity or technology to charge as needed. Here is an example, albeit for an Audi A8: th-cam.com/video/IJAScg6JrYI/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for visiting! -Scott
I chose AGM as an upgrade. The factory battery on my 2017 GTI was a flooded acid battery. I *think* the newer cars with auto start/stop may have AGMs, though, since they tend to be discharged more during city driving. When in doubt, replace your battery with an identical part. Thanks for visiting!
Scott do you use the OBDeleven PRO Edition or the OBDeleven Standard Edition? One review says that you can buy Standard version and then pay for the Pro Code in the app later for much less than the cost for the Pro version. I have a 2016 GTI that needs a battery and am wondering how much reprogramming is really necessary for a standard lead acid battery. I was planning on going with a higher capacity H6 with 730 CCA or the H5 with 650 CCA. I think that the standard VW battery is under 550 CCA. Your thoughts?
Milan - I use the Pro Edition. I've been recoding and adapting my VWs with VCDS long enough to know that I wanted to go straight to Pro. As a result, I cannot comment on the feasibility of buying Standard and then upgrading to Pro. Why leave yourself wanting more when the full package can be had for $30 more? ;-) I cannot prove that your car requires reprogramming for the battery; mine may not have needed it, either. But I'm glad I was able to do it anyway. Thanks for visiting! -Scott
@@djrave58 - I don't know. OBDeleven's website has a comparison table that shows what each version can do. It may be worth a look for potential customers.
@@StealthGTI yeah for no drop off of power. I going to see if I can just add both of the numbers from new batteries when I code it and the big3 so the charge is top notch. The big3 is to upgrade the ground from battery up front which is 2 of them one to body and one to the motor block and then the positive from battery to alternator just add it to the stock ones ground and hot.
@Mark Seven I haven't had a chance to start doing anything yet but I did look and it looks like your going to have to zip it to the front some where but don't do it to motor or you will burn up the wire
Derek - Sorry to have missed this. I thought I had replied. I must've neglected to click "REPLY." If I didn't have OBDEleven, I'd probably just swap the battery, stock for stock. But, since I have it, I would program it. But that's just me. Thanks for writing. -Scott
@@StealthGTI No problem. All I did was code the battery to tell the car it was a new one, and change the capacity rating as it is rated higher than the one it replaced. All is well with it.
I have the new battery in already and it's a bigger agm battery. My obd11 will be here next week though. Think waiting a week to code will do any damage? Thank you!
I just bought a battery for my mk7 gti. I looked up what the rated battery capacity is and I found "20 amp hour rate: 60". Is that what I put in on the rated battery capacity when coding? I'll be using obdeleven too. Thank you!
I'm not sure I understand your question. But the battery should have a stated capacity listed, just like what's in my video. Just enter that value. Thanks for visiting.
I couldn't find it on the battery so I went on their website superstartbatteries.net and looked up my battery. I found "20 amp hour rate: 60" I'm not sure if that's the value I need to put in.
Thanks for the note! The first sentence in the video description says that. "Fleece" is not common automotive term here in the US... unless you're referring to getting "fleeced" by the dealer! ;-) Take Care!
I believe you can. I think the reason to code before starting is so that the computer can see the resting voltage of the battery before its first heavy load (starter).
Battery change and OBD2 coding. The existing battery coding is stored in flash ram, so if you disconnect the battery this information is NOT lost. For ALL cars - this has nothing to do with BCM being there or not. If you replace like-for-like, that is same amperage and same battery technology, you ***DO NOT*** have to code the new battery as the computer will have the correct coding in place. If you change battery type, e.g. EFB to AGM or amperage, e.g. 69Ah to 75Ah then you ***MUST recode***. Changing battery type is especially important as the way the battery is used and charged is different and the car's computer needs to know. If you change EFB to AGM and do not tell the computer it will treat the AGM battery as an EFB - this is VERY bad as it will not use or charge the battery correctly.
Thank for the note. I've read that even for like-like replacements, changing the "serial number" signals to the ECU that a new battery is in service, which changes the charging profile a tad to account for new battery behavior. That could be BS, but it reads well. ;-)
It is! It will be three years old in July. I have flattened it four times over the years and it still holds a charge, especially now that my aux battery is powering the electronics. See my write-up at stealthgti.com/2019/07/14/12v-battery-failure-and-upgrade-to-group-48-agm/.
@@StealthGTI thank you again. I was driving the spare car while I was trying to do my research. I'm going to Batteries Plus tomorrow to see if I can get the same battery you've got. I'm not going to do all the additional heavy load stuff with the sound system and the radio system but I do want to do road trips and camp in the car and charging batteries and maybe leaving the radio and stuff on with the car off for an extended period of time would benefit from having more amp hours and this deep cycle functionality.
Yes! I've been a VCDS customer since the very beginning. But I use OBDEleven a lot because it's more convenient. There was just one thing that OBDEleven couldn't do (or I couldn't figure it out) that drove me to VCDS. Otherwise, OBDEleven does it all and is always with me due to the smartphone interface. Binary AGM vs Fleece… it appears that the German terminology for an AGM battery is Fleece …. Given the amount of german- isms in the obdeleven, that’s what I set my Varta E39 AGM 70ah battery to.

Take note of my pinned comment: FLEECE is the correct battery type to select in the software.
I have a 2017 base model Golf S and only now (October 2023) had to replace the OEM battery. I'm pretty impressed that it lasted for over 6 years!
Excellent! My wife's 2018 Jetta SE will be six years old in May and the battery seems to be doing well. Thanks for sharing!

Take Care!
No need to do the OBD change unless your negative cable had an blocky piece attached that sits right near the post.
Just wanted to thank you for your info. The battery died in my '17 R and your steps made it very clear as to what changes to make in OBD11. I ended up getting the same battery as you did. So, it simplified it even more. :)

Good morning and very good Information I have Volswagen EOS 2008 and star slowly I think putting t6 what’s do you think
Thanks for watching, Hector! I don't understand "T6." Is that the same as H6?
Thanks for sharing your experience. And thanks for visiting!
Yep, but older cars may lose the radio and if you haven’t got the radio code………….
I disconnected my battery to my 2020 VW Atlas to install amp for my subwoofer. Everything went well except the blindspot and rear cross traffic alert keeps turning off. I have a 2018 R line Passat debating whether risking changing my battery myself and erasing the memory or take it to the dealer?
I don't think you'll lose any stored settings. The reason for recoding is to inform the Gateway module that there's a new battery so that it resets its "learning" or charging behavior. That's my understanding, anyway. Many have replaced their battery without recoding. I have no idea how skipping the recoding affects battery life. Thanks for visiting.

I changed the battery on my 2019 Jetta mine has the stop and start system what happens if I don't do the coding/battery adaption

Take Care!
which app is this? would it work with an Ancel AD310 reader?
The app is called "OBDEleven" and uses its own OBD2 interface. Thanks for visiting!
Did switching to AGM raise the charge rate up?
I have no idea. I doubt that the rate charges beyond the difference of potential, IF the charging voltage is higher than a flooded battery. I know that's not a great answer; but I did say "I have no idea." ;-) I switched to AGM with the hopes of experiencing longer lifespan. So far, that hasn't been the case. But I've been running a second battery and hope to have better data in a few years, if the car is still on the road. Thanks for visiting!
I have a 2017 gti performance package and to my understanding it doesn’t have auto start stop but it does have the push to start, will I still need to code my ECU?
I don't believe it does. It seems to matter only on cars with auto-stop/start. Thanks for visiting.

Thank you!

Thanks! -Scott
@@StealthGTI Cheers for the reply Scott. I'll also try and find out more and if I do I'll let you know. 👍

Hi, my 2015 GTI battery just died, and bought a new ACDelco Group 47 Battery, will that fits the car? thanks
-Scott
StealthGTI Thank you very much for the info!
Is there really the agm battery the only one that I can use , or I can sue other one with these amp
Thank you
I chose AGM as an upgrade.
-Scott

Thanks for the note! The first sentence in the video description says that. "Fleece" is not common automotive term here in the US... unless you're referring to getting "fleeced" by the dealer! ;-) Take Care!
Can u code after starting car?
That could be BS, but it reads well. ;-)
Was your new batter an H6?
No battery adaptation. VW CC 2014. Obd11 Pro.
Thanks for the note. Please see my pinned comment at the top of the comments. I cannot speak for the CC, but I think most VW's lacked the auto start/stop until 2018. If that's accurate, then the adaptation is not necessary until 2018 and later models. Thanks for visiting.
Binary AGM vs Fleece… it appears that the German terminology for an AGM battery is Fleece …. Given the amount of german- isms in the obdeleven, that’s what I set my Varta E39 AGM 70ah battery to.
Thanks for the note! "Fleece" was a new term for me when I made this video. My description was updated to reflect accurate data. I think this battery could be replaced in 2022; we'll see. When I replace it, I will simply swap it out and not bother with programming. Take Care! -Scott
Thank you!
You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful. -Scott
The battery on my 2018 GTI Autobahn just died so I'm back to figure this out haha. I'm quite shocked it gave me no warning
Yup, that's about what happens! Good luck with your replacement.
bought the MK 7 Golf in 2012 November, 177k kilometer'S later the !first batterie! has issues to start the car every now and then but only when it is cold outside
Thanks for sharing!
@@StealthGTI i should also mention that it was mostly driven on the autobahn like 90% of the time
My father just replaced the original battery on his VW. It was nearly 15 years old!
That's very good! Thanks for visiting.
That’s weird. Because the battery spec from VW required for my gti is group 48
Are you in the U.S.? I wonder if VWoA downsized our batteries to save money. What year is your car and what country? Thanks for visiting.
StealthGTI Yes I am in the US in Texas and my car is late year 2017. And no problem I am thankful you replied.
My A3 has a 69Ah battery from factory now 8 years and 115k miles old and gonna change it soon because after sitting for a week it's a bit weak now
Nice! I had hoped to get a long life from my batteries. It hasn't happened yet, probably because of the extra electronics and the abuse they provide. ;-) Thanks for visiting!
My battery died jsut after 3 warranty expired.
I just replaced my X2 Power battery under warranty. It didn't last as long as I had hoped. I plan to publish that update next week. Thanks for visiting!
Sliver life!
5 brake lights + Urban Joker V2 = a must btw!
HAHA! Thanks! Not a fan of Urban Joker. However, I've coded my tail lights so that the inner lights clone the behavior of the outer tails. So, double the lights, I guess. Thanks for visiting. -Scott
Great stuff.
At some point, the "child" should be learning all this stuff and taking care of it. Eventually the real world hits and then they can't do anything but think about how relaxing school was.
I started teaching my daughter at a young age. Now she's away with the USMC working on flight line equipment. :-) Thanks for visiting.
@@StealthGTI Oooohrah! Marine Corps!
Swinging with the Wing is she...cool.
@@StealthGTI That's also the hardest way toward obtaining an AA/AS (while in) and obtaining a BA/BS + MA/MS Degree (after initial enlistment) w/o any student debt involved. Well worth the sacrifice if that forethought is planned.
@@MegaHollywood1971 - Oddly enough, I'm not sure that was the plan. I had just enrolled her in a diesel machinery trade school. She unexpectedly started talking to a recruiter after she started class. I was quite peeved by the timing. Thankfully, the school has a 6-week grace period where students can disenroll without committing to tuition. So, I had her drop out until her enlistment either happened or didn't. Now, she's trained on very similar equipment and getting experience, albeit without any certifications. She'll have the GI Bill to use when she leaves the Corps. With some luck and planning, she may even be able to get her GSE while on active duty and save the GI Bill for something else, if desired. She may decide she wants to try something else. She's becoming interested in crane operations and repair.
Nice video
But why do you have to code
When I made this video, I was under the impression from online discussions that it needs to be done so that the car knows there's a new battery and can then charge accordingly. However, I've since wondered if the requirement applies only to cars with the auto start/stop feature. I haven't found a conclusive answer to that. Regardless, coding for a new battery takes just a few minutes if you use the device listed in the video description. Thanks for visiting! -Scott
If you replace a like for like battery(same rating and technology i.e. AGM stop start) you do not need to code battery. I replaced my varta battery with Bosch on 2014 vw cc with stop start and battery monitor(BCM) and followed instructions from manual to drive the car, and all dash lights were cleared. I had to reset the clock only!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I JUST REPLACED VW BEETLE BATTERY BY BIGGER SIZE WHICH BEARLY FIT IN THE BASE WITH MORE AMP👍👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️✌️
Excellent! I'm sure you'll be quite pleased. Thanks for visiting!
Thank u
I hope it was helpful. Thanks for visiting!
Need to select Fleece not Binary AGM
Thanks for the note.
Your clock needed to be reset? Mine is controlled by GPS, it´s a setting! :)
My was disabled when I removed the sharkfin roof antenna and replaced it with my ham radio antenna. I have an external GPS antenna that I can connect to the MIB2 chassis to regain that feature. But it hasn't been a priority. The clock keeps time very well without GPS sync. Thanks for visiting.
You are losing information from the three (four) computers in the car: Consumption since last time you put gas/what ever on, hours and so on.
Thanks for pointing that out. Still, that data is nothing that cannot be solved with an unscheduled fuel stop. It's not nearly as much of a hassle as losing radio presets. ;-) Thanks for visiting.
@@StealthGTI I use data from diesel used since last filling to correct my milage so that´s more correct. But now I guess I have to start all over again because it is possible to change the wheel circumference so that the odometer gives a correct reading :) The math is not not difficult though :) When reserve lamp lights up I reset middle computer and know I have 4 liters left before rest km reaches 0 km. Hoverever I have used 5,5 with no problem :) Nice to know in an emergency :)
My GTi is 7 years old and I’m on my 4th battery 😅
I'm at 7.5 years and 224,000 miles; currently on my third battery. Thanks for visiting!
Da Germans always making simple tasks difficult 🤔
Haha! Yep.
2 years lifetime on my smart batterie 🙄🙏
Good Luck and Thanks for Visiting!
