A tried and true brainwashing strategy for any government is to appeal to nationalism. Appealing to nationalism is to manipulate fear and paranoia. Manipulating fear and paranoia are to invoke racism and xenophobia.
It is done in other countries, not just in Thailand. Connect the “foreign agitators” to the pro-democracy movement, and we have “traitors”
(“ขายชาติ”) in our midst. Traitors are reviled worse than “nation-haters.”
