Another EPIC battle, with the one and only Mattey Beee!! Also what a legend he is who gifted the Empire army! Dark Omen was truly a great game, so far ahead of its time!
It clearly states that heal and resurrection are two different effects. Healing occurs to models that are not slain, while resurrection raises slain models. Zombies can be resurrected beyond their starting size. So when you use Invocation on them, they increase their size. They do not need to be wounded already.
I would say it "clearly" needs an FAQ, as the rule is worded that you are replacing your models that have already been slain. GW was unclear in their wording. Does "resurrecting the fallen" refer to your models who have been killed, or the fallen of the warhammer universe at large?
you are correct at 2:12:30 . Unless specified otherwise, the target of a spell needs to be in your vision arc (p. 108). Characters on their own that are infantry or cavalry are Lone Characters (p. 206 core), which are considered to be in skirmish formation (p.205 core), so "every arc counts as front arc" (p. 184 core). It's not exactly the easiest to digest, but you came to the right conclusion.
This was one of my favorite games on your channel so far! You and Matty B did so well to compliment each other's ups and downs, being such amazing sports when things didn't go right. But also the bemoans and cries of victory sold every one of them! Cheers to you both for making such a long game of TOW a fantastic watch. I can't wait for the next game!
Inner Circle Knights actually have Full Plate Armour by default, so with with a shield and barding, they'd have 2+ saves. Fantastic battle report, loving your TOW content, especially how much passion and narrative you lend to even the simplest of rolls. Reminds me of what I get passionate about with wargaming, not just smashing spreadsheets into each other.
Almost wound up late for a flight finishing this episode. Loving watching the Old World content and the steady increase in rules knowledge as the bat reps go on. Keep up the amazing work!
This is brilliant! But Allor was an Amber wizard! So great to see the Empire back on the table, give us a 6th Ed report next Stos, cant wait to see some detachment action!
Very enjoyable, if you use the grudge bringers again you should bring an ally detachment of dwarfs. I forget the dwarf characters name from shadow of the horned rat, but it would be fun to see some dwarf quarrellers and warriors in support. Just remember in a 2000 point game you can have up to 500 of that on allies, just means you might have a little bit more spent on core units than usual (500 in your main army and 125 in the ally contingent).
Both armies look amazing! Have you guys been doing this since you were teenagers? I used to collect dwarfs and we played with a couple of buddies. I remember that there were some hints on how to paint in the armybook but the guys working in the games workshop store knew how to do it the best way (this was before youtube existed). It was fun looking at the first models painted vs the ones a year later. Surely many years of experience helps :P
29:30 You can roll doubke 6 on fated dispel. 1:29:53 Bound item have power level which adds to the roll. 1:35:15 Flails are AP2. 2:27:10 Earthen ramparts cant be cast into combat. 2:48:07 You don't have to remove it just cant cast that spell again. 2:51:50 *Running down the foe* when you flee and fail to charge the unit goes it charge range. (movement +6 +3* (*if they have swiftstride)). 3:09:38 You cast enchantment and hex before movement phase.
44:51 Funnily enough, at the time of recording, the mounts of Karlsson‘s unit would not be able to strike if itjey were not in B2B; it was just a single attack. However, counting in last FAQ all is fine :)
51:15 How does Failed Charge and Swiftstride interact? I assumed - if you decide to roll the die - you must add the Swiftstride to the Charge roll; it did not make a huge difference here as it would have been 7“ instead of 6“ but Instill wonder? However, the charge range being 17“ the charge was not possible with a maximum of 7+6+6=16“ charge range
Ah the Chronicles of Countess Isabella Von Liberhurtz, the untold tales lost to time when her journal was sealed away from prying eyes, some say burned, some say it resides in the vaults of the college of magic, some deny its very existence. What things she saw, what perils she faced, one can only speculate.. perhaps the historian Stos will uncover further crumbs of her ordeals as he explores the histories of The Old World.
You are indeed correct in that 'Lone Characters' being skirmishers means they have 360 degrees LoS (also means they can charge in any direction). Important to note is that this is true for characters that are either "Infantry" or "Cavalry", even if they are *heavy* infantry or *monstrous* cavalry. Only characters (not joined to a unit) riding in a chariot, or on a monster are no longer considered skirmishers and have arcs.
Thanks for the report always fun to watch! I don’t comb through the comments. So this maybe already said. Page 110- “Unbinding: If a natural double 6 is rolled when attempting any type of dispel, the magic unbinds and the spell is dispelled and immediately ends, regardless of the casting result.” Your guest could’ve tried a Fated dispel and get double 6’s. Disregard I see you found it next turn. Awesome job boys!
Always good to see VC on the channel, and who can fail to love Grayson's army (and his generosity). The charge with the Grave Guard in VC turn 6 is not a failed charge. The target unit fleeing out of range does not cause it to become a failed charge I believe. Per Page 129
Second comment after watching the game: I thought the vampire counts magic has been really destructive in this game! Good game, and I waiting for the next game! Thanks for sharing! 🔝
Incredible! I just had a game against Vampire Counts yesterday and the regens were felt. Seems all Vampire Counts players go to the same witch doctor. XD Great game! Keep it up!
A great fight, interesting in that it wasn't just line-up and fight, change of scenario helped and terrain influence too. If the vampire co-ordinates better, and gets his Grave Guard in position to charge, then the result is a win... but I enjoyed that the Empire hung-on (just). Not sure what the dire wolves were trying to do... threw them away a bit, but keeping them back as a threat, than the cavalry can't ignore, might have been better, for later flank charge or draw the cavalry out of the main line's fight. Concerned that archery/missile fire seems so weak in this edition... not the first to say so... war machines too... balance doesn't seem quiet right
Wow, making an Undead army start on the short table edge? That's just cruel and unusual - I thought you and Matty B were friends! I alluded to this when you and Grayson last played; I fear, that just like the video game, poor Morgan Bernhardt is going to struggle without using any cheat codes (Let's face it, Dark Omen was pretty much impossible). I suppose in that way, this Bat Rep was very fluffy! Still getting to grips with the OW ruleset, but I believe the Household Guard cavalry unit could have counter-charged against the dire wolves early in the game. Great content, as usual!
Hey! Mattey Beee!!! 😀 Good to see him back on the channel, and also playing VC. They really felt like his army to play, I hope we will more of that. Vampire lord Matty Von Bee! 😋 Imho, the grudgebringer shooting wasnt handled very well/didnt have good targets. You said so yourself that the crossbowmen were deployed too far back. And cannons only had one good target, the knights, and the were only targeted once. Against an army with chariots, monsters, warmachines, more cavalry they are really useful. The D3+1 makes them more reliant now. Also, a bit unlucky with the missfires. But still, replacing one of them with a mortar seems like a good idea. Shooting againt the undead has always been difficult imo, you cant whittle them down, you have to iether concentrate everything on one unit and hope to delete it or destroy all their chaff and outplay them in the movement phase. I dont think you did niether in the game. I hope you keep the list pretty similar atleast for another couple of games, its really cool! Love your work! Best batreps on youtube! ❤ And also, as stated, Allor is an Amber wizard. 😜
Totally agree with the shooting not being handled quite right. Some solid points indeed sir. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting the channel, you devilish rogue you!
Once again a great and entertaining battle report! One additional thing I noticed apart from some things already mentioned in other comments: - The inner circle knights did not need to take a panic test after the (devastating!) unquiet spirits, as they are immune to psychology due to being joined by a Grand Master (Master of Battle special rule) Looking forward to the next battle report
Great battle report. Great sports playing a very entertaining game. Just a note: believe the Zombienunit is too bis as it has to be between 20-40 maximum.
Ment to say you COULD have used your invocations even without casualties on the 1st turn as you can increase zombie numbers beyond their starting number. Great battle rep
Great game and what a nostlagia (not for me I have just finished Dark omen campain again :D to see dark omen inspired units (and just awesome), good job and keep going!
Kudos for ditching the Old World terrain placement rules. What a boring wasteland that is. I have played a dozen of games, and I am already tired of playing on the same board every time.
I think the terrain rules as they stand are fine (and I like that they specifically call out incidental scenery) but the 24" diameter circle of nO tErRaIn in the centre of the board thing is dull.
I would add flying unit to that empire army to threaten heroes, artillery and also harass the rear. Pity that small unit of cav did not make the way around the building after defeating the wolves. It would have made a big difference in turn 5+
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it. But I don't think I'd film the movement phase. Takes too long and it's nice to do the fiddly stuff without a camera in my hand.

Great batrep as always. Love me Vampire Counts, love me extra long reports and Matty B is a gentleman. I am pleasantly surprised that VC are still damn competitive despite being made Legacy. One thing though, with the Sceptre of de Noirot, the Necromancer must roll every time it's used (so after the 2nd Invocation). On a 1, they lose a wound. Probably wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game but still, fairly important asterisk to keep in mind!
Great game!! 🤘Keep going and playing!! Don't worry about the mistakes we all have some 😁 would you do a video of your thoughts about The Old World VS 6th(good & bad things)?
Enjoyable game as ever - thanks. Matty B did go well with the dice especially on regen and the Ld tests for invocations. There was one roll though that didn't go his way and could have lead to quite a different battle - the ghouls not making their charge alongside the black knights. Otherwise I agree with a lot of your assessments - shooting not up to much especially against biggish units of undead that can be raised back up and invocation looks very strong with no chance to dispel. I don't think the shooting would even have been that effective if they couldn't be raised, but even so I guess the only way to stop them is to find a way to get at the wizards. Maybe the smaller unit of knights could have been used differently to try to do this, not sure. Speaking of which Matty B might have been better served to use some of his magic missiles to eliminate the smaller knight unit rather than always concentrating on the big unit - again there are pros and cons either way I guess and they were of course unlucky to lose numbers the way they did anyway.
Some advice for the Vampires if I may: Take Hellish Vigour on one of your wizards, otherwise you'll need ages to get anywhere and can be easily outmanouvered. And I would recommend keeping your cavalry back. As you've seen here the Black Knights do very little damage on their own and will crumble against anything with a rank bonus. I would use them to charge into the flanks of the enemy once the infantry has engaged, otherwise the Knights will just bounce off and die.
Having watched several Old World bat reps now, it seems to me missile troops aren't worth their points cost. And the fact that cannons don't ignore armor saves is mind blowing.
Love The Old World content. I've played VC with my Dwarfs several times so far and always found VC very difficult. With their powerful magic, regeneration and ability to bring back units, coupled with the weakness of shooting, they're very difficult to counter. Empire don't have the same weaknesses as Dwarfs but, halfway through the video, I'm noticing a lot of the same issues playing Empire!
@@rogueelementgaming Thanks! These are so sick. The Carlson's Cav heraldry looks so crisp. Is that freehand or custom transfer? Either way this army is superb!
8" before target gives you 55% or so odds to hit. 6" gives 41% or so(both bit higher as misfire on 2nd roll doesn't matter 1/6 times of 1st roll). So if you want to hit specific model 8". Vs deeper blocks 6" can be better though
I'm so pleased you're continuing to play Old World. Keep it up! Love your stuff.
Much respect to Grayson , what a top bloke.

Having watched several Old World bat reps now, it seems to me missile troops aren't worth their points cost. And the fact that cannons don't ignore armor saves is mind blowing.
As a Dwarf player, I've sadly reached the same conclusion
Love The Old World content. I've played VC with my Dwarfs several times so far and always found VC very difficult. With their powerful magic, regeneration and ability to bring back units, coupled with the weakness of shooting, they're very difficult to counter. Empire don't have the same weaknesses as Dwarfs but, halfway through the video, I'm noticing a lot of the same issues playing Empire!
They definitely seem like a tough fight for anyone at this point.
@@rogueelementgaming my main opponent often runs VC and we've tried a few methods of countering them. No success so far!
When will you show the us outtakes of y'all giggling after mugging for the camera?
Great battle report! I love the battle mat you use, where did you get that one?
Cheers mate! I get my mats from www.tablewar.com.au/
I played the old pc game. They were very cool. I wonder if they still work…
First comment before watching the game: thanks for sharing and playing TOW! 🎉
My dude, where did you find those minis? Loving the SOTHR theme. Absolutely Iconic.

Here ya go mate! 😁
@@rogueelementgaming Thanks! These are so sick. The Carlson's Cav heraldry looks so crisp. Is that freehand or custom transfer? Either way this army is superb!
I believe Grayson made custom transfers for the banners, then painted over them.
Great game!
Should the 2nd unit dire wolves have only lost by 2 since they had a charge and a wound?
No charge combat res bonus in this edition bud.
8" before target gives you 55% or so odds to hit. 6" gives 41% or so(both bit higher as misfire on 2nd roll doesn't matter 1/6 times of 1st roll). So if you want to hit specific model 8". Vs deeper blocks 6" can be better though
