My very guitar! G6120-TM Chet Atkins Nashville (longest name in history). Took me a few weeks to get Gretsch conversant, that’s for sure. Stock Filter’trons. Parallel bracing with just a sound post. Thinner, as your wife noticed. Love this guitar. Pete, indeed, is the man. Thanks for great channel!
Pete’s model is a 1959 6120 with the FilterTron pickups. I have a 1962 6120, which was the year they switched to the thinner body and the fake f-holes. The pickups on mine are incredibly loud and you don’t have to turn up the amp very loud to get a lovely crunch. Gretsch’s are always associated with rockabilly but they can produce great rock tones as well. The neck on mine is very thin and perfect for someone with small hands.
A nice addition…I’ve got the fake f holes G6119-1962 Tennessee Rose model that George plays fairly early on…a Gretsch reissue. Yours has all the gold bling..looks great…use the Bigsby once in a while..it might even stay in tune….and one more thing…there’s always room for another. Good stuff on your channel…
Slight correction: George played a "Gretsch Tennesean" (Chet Atkins). The "Tennessee Rose" is very similar looking, but a different guitar in many aspects.
@@akgeezer yeah there are differences in the pick ups, frets and weight in addition to the unique sound that each guitar possesses…the Tennessean vintages are not cheap..bought my TR in 02…I did replace the bridge that came on the TR…needed it to stay reliably in tune…it’s a wonderful guitar..it has great versatility…got a 57 reissue Duo Jet too…beautiful guitar. Thanks..good luck.
My dad gave me his 1970 Gretsch 6122 Chet Aitkens when I moved out when I was 17...I've been told by a few people that it was supposed to be outfitted with flatwound strings. I think they sound incredible.😎👍
I always love how these sound, I really need to try one out someday. Pete's tone on the Gretsch is probably my favorite of his, even with all the live guitars, the few times he played the 6120 live were killer.
I had the Setzer model of the 6120 (although I used the gold knobs, not the dice ones - they give you both) - it was a really fun guitar to play. Had to part with it when money got tight, and I wish I still had it.
Duffy is a white falcon player (has black too) …even has his own signature Gretch silver falcon ( which I have and is a beauty ) …but on a side note most of the time billy plays a les Paul custom on stage and pulls out the big gretch for the encores
Yeh, I have a 1990 model, I love it...at first I played blues/rock stuff on it, Johnny Winter stuff. But now mostly rockabilly, maybe some Neil Young/Byrds. l seldom play it, lots of other guitars, but I'm always amazed by it when I do..and it looks sooo beautiful..oh, switched to Sperzel tuners!! I love your vids and your shirts!!
I've been trying to get as Pete-y as possible in my set-ups. My amps are closer to what he used real early on with the Fenders, Mainly play Telecasters like he did for a bit in the 60's and 80's. So it's a hybrid Pete set up! Definitely do some Quad stuff! Pete's my guiding light.
Looks beautiful! I always love a Gretsch. And I kind of dig how this one looks without the pickguard. Making me wonder if I should do the same with mine 🤔
Probably late to the party on this joke, but I just heard it yesterday. "How many guitars does a person need? Just one....more." Life would be boring without GAS. A nice one.
I kind of justify purchases by telling myself I can always sell them and get my money back. Heck, if I hold onto them, I could start selling them off and get a nice little bit of pocket change when I’m retired.
I’m with you on Bigsby JJ! Have them on 14 Rich Robinson Es-335 and 64 Tennessean but don’t touch them! Looks sexy and they do stay in tune shockingly! But not a whammy guy! Have a 93 Jackson CS Jackson DK1 and that’s going! Really not a Floyd Rose guy hahaha! Congrats on new guitar!!!
So James James, as a Still-Devoted Fan, I just got my first 6120, and it's also a 2000 vintage! (I'm your biggest copycat :-) ) MIne is a floating bridge, which I am discovering i am not too keen on. Is yours? Just curious. Hope you're well!!
Yes, mine's a floater, too. I don't mind it, but I have to keep at least one string on at all times during re-stringing. I need to take some measurements for exactly where it's placed so I can put it back if necessary.
@@jamesjames9275 yes! I do the same I’m also going to put a Vibramate on the Bigsby to make string changing easier. All the best to you and Mrs. James ❤️
Great looking and sounding guitar! Since it's hollowbody, how do you manage to avoid feedback when you add gain? Also I never understood why Gretsch doesn't put roller saddles with the Bigsby.. It does help a lot for tunning stability..
My Falcon does have the roller saddles. I was surprised that this one didn't have them. I don't play super loud, so I don't have much trouble with feedback. In fact, with the Black Falcon, I can get feedback when I want it. I haven't really tried it with this one yet.
that looks beautiful!! how does it compare to the 5120 you used to have in terms of feel and pickups? seems like a much more expensive guitar but they look so similar!
Believe it or not, build quality has been identical on all the Gretsches I’ve owned. Very well built guitars. The major difference is the pickups. The 5120 pickups were fairly muddy, and I didn’t think they gave what you’d consider a traditional Gretsch tone. But then, I mainly use them for harder rock music. Still, I think the 5120 is a fine guitar for the money, a bargain. And it’s easy to swap out pickups if you don’t like them.
@@jamesjames9275 Oh wow that's awesome to hear, I appreciate that from Gretsch, haha. Ahh gotcha, I'll definitely have to play a few Gretsches side by side in the future!
@@jamesjames9275 I think he also had some other gretsch which was heavily moded in the heartbreakers days! Anyways, congratulations on your new guitar! Sold my duo jet recently, I miss the gretsch sound soo bad
You must be bored. You change your tuners to then after the fact, decide you’re not sure if you like them. It seems like just such a waste of time to even do it.
I think some Buffalo Springfield would sound good on this one.

Another great Gretsch!
That's a really cool piece of work! 6120's are one of the most iconic guitars around, at least Brian Setzer says so...

Will you end up acquiring Lennon or Harrison's Rickenbackers?
Nine months ago I forked out for a Nashville G6120TG , love it .
A gretsch is my dream guitar. The history of the company warrants anyone spending good money on one
The guitar is awesome Neil young used a grestch 6120 with buffalo Springfield
NY guitar playing with BS was awesome. Is that the guitar used for What it's Worth? The harmonics and all?
Sounds good and the color is alluring.. good choice JJ

Ideal guitar for playing the Cult’s She Sells Sanctuary.
Awesome shout out to Mr Duffy... you could really use it with any of the Cult stuff.

I have a 5120 tobacco finish (i.e., same shape, different country of origin). Love these orange ones, too!

A Pete lesson would be fantastic. Just Pete chords etc. Nice addition. The flame is awesome. Mine are painted and wish they had the clear finish.
He did something sorta like that here, more would always be great though: th-cam.com/video/VeZjfGUTBS8/w-d-xo.html
Ahh that color and top!!!
Beautiful guitar man!!!! Keep both!!
I have the 2002, what happened to your pick guard? I got mine signed by Tommy Emanuel when I saw him in Wausau Wisconsin.
There’s so much flame on it, I hated to cover it with the pickguard.
I bet yours has the minimal internal bracing that I prefer. I’m jealous. (But happy for you.)

It might be a replacement bridge, my 1992 6120 came with a roller bridge
Nice guitar... I struggle to fret the bottom E with my thumb..how the hell did you get yer thumb right down there!! 😳
James yer gretch should stay in tune with 10’s with the bigsby…8’s n 9’s are too lite for bigsby IMO but I know many will disagree
I’ll try it, thanks.
You're Awesome!
Love your flock. Are you in a band?
Not right now. I wouldn’t have time these days.
There's a lot of space between the low E and the A string, near the bridge. Is that normal?
Buy a new house, keep collecting. LOL !,!! Love all your videos !!!
