- me changing the signal switch in my C3 Corvette 1978 Silver Anniversary
This is me changing the signal switch in my car. I have some good tips on getting everything back together :)
I always start with disconnecting the battery!! ;)
This is my reference video now- every time. Thank you for posting this! I’ve been in there 3x for stuff and this is the best map. Much appreciated!
my pleasure :)
Needed video of you fishing that wire down the column..haha
Thanks for posting this video!
I replaced mine on my '70 Vette a few months ago but my blinkers won't cancel. I noticed that mine did not have the rubber 1" spacer and the two white Teflon washers that was directly behind the hub and long spring. Wondering if someone removed them in the past and maybe that is the cause of my blinkers not cancelling. Gonna see if I can find that rubber spacer and two Teflon looking washers and order them.
Thanks again!
nice! hope you get that resolved
@@3amfoghorngearhead791 Me too... 😁. Thank you
On your final assembly the large nut take a torque setting or did you just make it tight?
thank a lot for this detailed video!
my pleasure! :)
Do have a video on how to change pivot on 78 corvette?
i do not have such a video..... sorry
Thanks for the reply.
Great video. How is that switch working so far?
thank you!! switch is great and i have had no problems so far!! :)
@@3amfoghorngearhead791 Thanks. I believe I also need the part that goes between this switch and the lever, but I do not know how to get to that part. I guess I have to remove the column cover where the lever inserts into, but how do you remove that part? Also, do you know what part # it may be?
Thanks!
how did you get the new wiring harness in? since you cut the wires on the old one when removing
1. **Disconnect the Battery:** Before working on any electrical components, including the wire harness, it's crucial to disconnect the car's battery to ensure safety and avoid electrical shocks.
2. **Remove the Steering Wheel:** In many cases, you may need to remove the steering wheel to access the internals of the steering column. Follow the manufacturer's instructions or refer to a service manual for guidance on steering wheel removal.
3. **Detach the Column Cover:** If there is a column cover, remove it to gain better access to the wiring and the signal switch.
4. **Carefully Route the Harness:** When threading the wire harness through the steering column, take your time and be patient. Avoid forcing the harness through tight spaces to prevent damage.
6. **Have a Helper:** If possible, have someone assist you by gently guiding the wire harness from the other end as you work it through. This can be especially helpful when dealing with tight spaces.
7. **Refer to a Wiring Diagram:** A wiring diagram specific to your Corvette model can be invaluable. It will help you understand the routing of the wire harness and the proper connections.
8. **Patience is Key:** Working with wire harnesses in tight spaces requires patience. Take breaks if needed, and avoid rushing the process to prevent damage to the wires or connectors.
*Mine slowly slid down the space in the steering column. I reached it from the other end with long needle-nose pliers.*
9. **Inspect for Damage:** Once the wire harness is in place, carefully inspect it for any signs of damage, such as pinched wires or loose connections. Address any issues before reassembling the steering column.
If you're unsure or uncomfortable with the process, consider seeking assistance from a professional mechanic or a Corvette specialist. Additionally, having a service manual for your specific Corvette model can provide detailed instructions and diagrams to guide you through the process.
