You do know that making an AI mirror of the player that gets even close to a doom eternal player’s dynamism is impossible at the moment, right? Things like the dark lord and marauder are probably the closest we’ll get for a good while
My theory is because the slayer might have been designed with the base game in mind but when they had to make a multiplayer they realized that a Slayer fighting another Slayer would be really hard. It’s just my theory so the real reason might be something else. I also agree that giving a tradition PvP or a simple Coop would be good

Yeah it's so much fun, you should try out SVS for yourself! The server in the description takes you to the modded multiplayer community for DOOM Eternal, and it's a growing scene. All of the new modes are a lot of fun.
Watching these matches made me realize something. First, it's way more interesting than watching 1v1 in Quake, even though I absolutely love Quake and would consider myself to be pretty far above the average player (not that there's a massive amount of Quake casuals but you get the gist). Second, I believe the biggest reason to the demise of arena shooters is the lack of innovation. Most arena shooters made after Q3 and UT are just straight Q3 copycats with pretty much the exact same movement system and basically the same arsenal. Insanely high skill ceiling which is good for the sweatlords, but unfortunately the skill floor is pretty high as well. Strafe-jumping for example. Hard to learn, hard to master. Then you need to learn item timing and routes across the map and where (and in what order depending on situation) to find the best weapons. And THEN, you must learn what roles the weapons have, just to name a few things. Doom Eternal changes all of this. Much easier to learn but as can be seen in this video, the skill ceiling is through the roof. And it's all new, never been done before. I truly believe id is sitting on a potential goldmine here. Imagine a new competitive AFPS based on Eternal, like Apex Legends is based on Titanfall 2. One can only hope they realize this themselves. Apologies if my grammar is a bit weird. English is my second language.

Naw, strafe jumping is easy to learn. But hard to master. Easy concept, but it's intricacies become daunting. Everything else I pretty much agree with. What I don't like about eternal though is the dash mechanic. I feel it has no reason to exist.
Yeah, absolutely, the skill ceiling for SVS is extremely high, but in it lies a lot of fun and depth. I'm glad it exists as a mod because it's so much fun, because as you said, ID would've never done this.
they could always just lock the guns, mods and enhancements behind credits, like counter strike First round it's just the shotguns, as an example. The winner of the round gets 20% more credits and so on until 10 rounds are over or smth like that
or maybe have SvS start with two slayers with all their equipment (or some of it)but almost no power until they kill enough demons to regain their strength so it’s a killing competition until they get enough strength to kill the other in a time that they cannot save themselves
basically lore accurate power growth but starting very slow and weak with most guns doing almost no damage as the slayer isn’t strong enough to will normal guns to even damage the sentinel armour but is barely strong enough to kill the weaker demons
There have been a number of tournaments that I have held for this, and I plan to hold more going forward. Honestly, I recommend joining the modded doom eternal multiplayer discord server in the description if you're interested in the mode and matchmaking. Modded multiplayer features things for eternal like Slayer vs Slayer of course, Co-op, Invasion Mode, and Battlemode 3.0. So yeah, modded multiplayer is very active scene, I highly recommend jumping into it if you're interested in things like matchmaking and tournaments man.

Am i the only one who misses the old Team Deathmatch? Like, just having two groups of UAC staff members shooting at each other rather than literal demigods duking it out?
One way to lock out weapons in a mode like this, so that casual players don't have to deal with the high skill ceiling of a full power Slayer, would be to require you to kill demons to gain additional weapons. Have a score tracker in the corner, similar to Arcade Mode in Doom 2016, once you reach a certain score you get a particular gun. The gun order, and what score goals you get said guns, would be what separates particular game modes. Do you start with the shotgun, then acquire the heavy cannon, then rocket launcher, etc? Or does the game begin with the Ballista, and then the Super Shotgun, followed by Plasma Rifle? That's assuming you're playing a mode that has all the weapons, it could lock you down to just 2 of the guns, maybe even set getting that second gun to a high ass score so that it's a while before you get it. How much time you spend grinding demons for weapons or hunting down your opponent would be where playstyles could develop.
Fuck, this looks like so much fun. I love how rounds seem to last so much longer simply because the TTK is much higher. At least from what I see here. Gotta try this out for myself in any case.

There is version of slayer vs slayer called "SvS Competitive" which puts a high emphasis on positioning and map control. This version allows you to control your opponent's restack.

But for me, Battlemode has always been my favorite. I love the demon combos and coordination, the mind games you can pull off as Slayer, and just the crazy pacing of the mode.
this is what Doom eternal PVP should have been. either this or Slayers (plural) vs Demons with massive arenas. Imagine a team of slayers vs a team of heavy Demons and a super power for Demons (like the Demon rune in 2016) as a power up for one Demon player to collect to turn into a super heavy. shit they could have made this a 4v4 for slayers or a 4v8 for Slayers v Demons that way infighting could make its way so slayers and demons could use fodder to generate health/armor. this Multipayer had so much potential and they pissed it all away for that piece of shit 2v1 battlemode. beyond the multiplayer the main campaign is a fucking masterpiece, the first DLC was more cruel than a Dark Souls Dominatrix and the second over compensated for the cruelty that was the first DLC. the first DLC was like getting your teeth brushed with a fucking chainsaw and the second was the equivelent to raw dogging and imp with no lube aside from literally any time you had to deal with a dreadful marauder (you know... the only enemy in the fucking game that slows down combat.) i dont mind being forced to think about my approach of an attack but theres forcing a player to think then theres making them wait for an inconsistent piece of shit AI that changes its mind about an attack more than a girl changes clothes and spawns the neighborhood Rottweiler to punish you every time you some how fuck up your reactive attack or some dick head fodder hits his sheild because they dont have the intelligence to not shoot something thats on their fucking team. incase you couldnt tell. ive hated the marauder since the day this game was released. whates even worse is he even becomes a regular enemy and sometimes you even have to fight multiples of him. for modders and elitists, this is fine. Im a doom Vet thats beaten both 2016 AND eternal on nightmare plus all 3 DLC and from someone who used to hate the pain elemental... id rather be in the middle of a circle jerk of pain elementals then to ever fuck with even a single marauder. even as ive gotten good with weapon combos and attack set ups i hope theres a special place in hell for whoever designed that pornographic ass-fucking nightmare.
If this was like a 6v6 mode or at least a 6 player FFA I'd probably be interested in playing Eternal PvP. (Even though I'd get my shit rekt) And then they could have added some Quake songs to PvP as well to make it more Quake like.

I think id absolutely could have implemented a multiplayer mode. they would need to lower the skill ceiling, like removing boosts maybe, and you wouldnt be playing as the slayer. You would play with normal humanoid skins, like a UAC marine, Intern guy, or a former human, etc.

I think id absolutely could have implemented a multiplayer mode. they would need to lower the skill ceiling, like removing boosts maybe, and you wouldnt be playing as the slayer. You would play with normal humanoid skins, like a UAC marine, Intern guy, or a former human, etc.

True, but you can play it now as part of the modded multiplayer collection. Joining the modded mp server will give you access to matchmaking for Slayer vs Slayer, Co-op, invasion mode, and battlemode 3.0. It's a growing scene that I highly recommend getting into if you play eternal on PC.

From what I remeber it was very widely well recieved by almost the whole doom 2016 community-and many players statin it was better than “battle mode”. Truthfully I like it better than battlemode although battlemode is more true to doom by far. Speaking of unbalnced, Battle mode is regardeded the most unbalanced mode from Doom, either Slayers OBLITERATING the other team or vice versa. Not to mention all the cheap tech ID left in for slayers to abuse(Only on Pc generally)that demons cant compare with. How is that more balaned than 2016’s pvp?(And yes the cod ripoff agrument is semi valid to an extent I will agree there)
