    One of the great things about these KCE switching videos is their high educational value. These switching freights take those who do not know railroads well, to places that are often inaccessible. These switchers take the viewer to parts of a railroad that the average person, often for safety reasons, can never see. In real life, hanging around busy engine terminals and yards would be a very dangerous undertaking. It's little wonder so many, even if greatly interested in railroad operations, do not know how this stuff works. And, some do not know even where their cereal comes from (grain mills) of furniture and other wood products (lumber mills) and so on, and so forth. I knew this: I watched the trio of Southern Railway GP9's work the interchange and local tracks in my downtown Atlanta neighborhood as a kid and I followed through with this knowledge on my N-scale empire ( a long time back: my free-lanced railroad is no more): The sky blue and yellow, Texas Central and Pacific. I am so blessed to have met the KCE.

      Thanks Tommy, appreciate it. Apologies for not seeing your comment much sooner, I literally just saw it. I'm glad you enjoy these vids, and I agree, I like shooting them as if you are standing trackside "in" the layout. Also, thanks for your comments on the KCE. We've put a lot of work into developing it; it's a fun railroad to model.

    Nice freight assembly again! Oh yes, please more " wide range shots" of the whole lay out. Great mulitable action and scenery.

    Some great shots of the layout, especially the one at about 13:19. I noticed that some of your cars are well detailed, e.g., the brake lever. In N scale, that is often hard to come by. Thanks for your time in producing these videos. It must be time consuming.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Details add to the realism, so the guys at the club try to get as much as we can, yet keep it operator friendly. And yes, these vids do take time to create, it's challenging at times to keep to the schedule, but I manage.

    Great timing! I just finish breakfast and settled in with my morning coffee to watch some railroad videos and seen where you uploaded a new switching video. I enjoy those IPD era short line boxcars but, I would seeing I have collected 257 of those cars. :-) I would guess 80% of my freight cars are boxcars.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Timing is everything :D 9am Central every Sunday and Wednesday unless some technical issue messes it up. We have a pretty decent mix of most car types, helps to give each train a different feel.

      Thanks Bishop, I wish I could take credit for the weathering on the tankers, but those were done by Ron, who owns the MKT set of 38s. He's really good with weathering.

    Anybody else see how those two boxcars uncouple from the engines and roll away at 6:38 mark? and then engines catches them 2 seconds later...i saw it but i had to rewind video to be sure that is what i saw happen. this was a pretty good vid but it would have been lot better if those Kato? SD40-2s were sound equipped and if the background chatter was edited out.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Oddly enough, I never noticed those boxcars doing that. The green unit is an old Athearn Blue Box SD40-2 and the red one is a KATO SD45. They will eventually have sound, but that's when the $$ permits.

    Great layout and great video of it; thanks! Where did the custom wide vision/bay window caboose come from? Must be from the KCE shops!

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Sorry for not responding sooner, I literally just now saw your comment. But to answer your question, I kitbashed it. Took an old Athearn Blue Box bay window caboose, the cut the opening in the roofline over the bays, I fitted the wide vision cupola. Then I painted and decaled it.

    Could you please tell me the brand and color of the ballast used in the earliest parts of the video? That sandy colored ballast is what i'm interested in. That's about the exact color I've been wanting to put down on my layout.
