A poet, a storyteller, a teller of the truth about hard and sorrowful times, A highly intelligent man A man who knew felt pain, his and others. A truly great human being, now resting in eternal peace in heaven
For me this is probably the most relatable part of his career.. it’s a very difficult listen emotionally but also exactly how its supposed to be. I always preferred listening to towns on his own rather then with accompaniment as to get the full experience of what he as an artist is expressing. The song choices are spot on and it’s great to have a laugh with him at the jokes he tells. Towns was a one of a kind.
I agree. Was looking for an album by Townes for a christmas gift to my brother and his wife who appreciate this kind of music but I can't find one by the older TVZ who had this darkness going on even in his older songs. I love this.
I remember the posters glued on the walls for this concert at K4 Club, which I saw in front of the club. I was too young at that time to appreciate his music, so I didn't attend the concert. Thank you for sharing this beautiful recording !
Waitin' Round to Die always gives me goosebumps...because I've lived so much of what he speaks in those lyrics. I see my reflection like an audio mirror.
That is the genius and total beauty of Townes Van Zandt his words mean the world to millions of other people who have lived with pain, sadness, sorrow, regret, and ill health and this is most of the people of this world, He also gives strength to people in need.

I stayed on top of a large mountain in Ljubljana. T'was heaven! I can only imagine the sound of Townes' voice floating from the town below with no words to describe 💙
Picking and hammering that guitar like a wound that won’t heal. Digging down on it for sure. Inspired. Blazing. Great song selection. Delicious to the ears; more than that, genius and a precious reminder.
Have you ever seen Heartworn Highway? While he plays Waitin' Around to Die, he says "pick it, and it won't ever heal." So, I think you have made a good choice of words here!
One of the most cleanest sounding “bootlegs” I’ve ever heard, from anyone! Thank you so much for posting. I’ve been listening to it for a couple months now just posting today.
those two jokes he told before the song (my favorite), Waitin' Round To Die. I love those two jokes, especially the first one. and then that song. I think. it's something for me that I can't describe. I cry from laughter, I cry from sadness. Thank you Townes!
The encore is heartbreaking. The sad, bemused thoughts on the rarity of kind humor, the halfway tuned guitar, the ragged, off-key vocals and strummed (no longer picked) “If I Needed You”-but through it all the elemental brilliance of a brave creative soul that cannot be fully eclipsed or denied, even by a lifetime of trouble, alcohol, and sadness.
Yes! You captured it. He was before Dillon, of course, point being, I can’t help thinking that Dillon esteemed Townes and was very influenced. I think on the other hand Townes was influenced by Arlo. I could be very wrong too: It’s 4am on my Friday night and I’m a few sheets into the wind- designated of course- but just jamming with Townes. Nancy Griffith died last month- she adored his music and I adored hers. When I think of him I think of her.
He was a mess on and off by then but when he could show up, he still brought it. I feel like Katie Bell was his goodbye to his daughter so every version wrecks me, esp. when he can't remember the words. "Come what may, you must stay and remain my beautiful daughter."
TOM: Thank you for this excellent sharing, this concert moved me. His joke about penguins is really funny. I have just discovered the music of Townes Van Zandt, thanks to a subscription on You Tube. GREAT! Fabulous. I love her voice, so beautiful, so strong. both serious and sweet. His blues-country is talented, inspired, and I would listen to it again and again. RIP after his tragic disappearance.
Mark Wilkins, you are correct;probably drinking a little before he began;very common on the circuit,I’ve heard. Still,it just shows the true genius ofTownes. He only missed very few lyrics...right and his lyrical timing is nearly perfect. This is Townes at his very best!...my layman’s opinion.

Exactly. Unlike the technical experts that feel qualified to pick certain performances apart, I am blessed to be just a listener. I enjoyed this immensely.
@@jamespriest9658 as so many... you take it as a dig... Instead of the intended help its meant to be.
