*Trivia:* Not long after this film's release, Dr. Seuss' widow, Audrey Geisel said that she would not allow any further live-action adaptations of Seuss' books. Can't say I blame her, I'd have a heart attack if my loved one's works are ruined by its film adaptations.
Wow...that explains, thankfully, why we haven't seen a live action Green Eggs and Ham movie..it would have happened if she hadn't put her foot down. Thanks for restoring my hope.
Not that they're just ruined...but they were marketed the shit out of in a way Seuss himself heavily criticized and demonized as soulless corporate whoring his entire life.
You should check out Linkara's review of that movie's comic adaptation. Holy crap, his response to the bat credit card meme is amazing. The Critic is even there to hear it.
*NC:* ...All this scene needs is Freeze saying, "First Gotham, and then the world." *FREEZE:* First, Gotham. And then... THE WORLD!!! *NC:* *[Grows Pissier]*
I'm surprised that during the part with The Cat having a vision after getting hit in the nuts, the Critic didn't do his "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" thing because that's exactly what that scene was. It was a scene that came right the Hell out of nowhere, had no bearing on the plot at all, was way too over-the-top even for this movie and when it was over I'm pretty sure no one ever mentioned it again. It was a "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" without a doubt.
I've seen him do that "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" thing a few times, but never really knew what it meant. I think he might've explained it the first time, but if so, I forgot. I'm guessing that's pretty much it?
Actually a big lipped alligator moment isn't a scene that doesn't fit into the plot and comes out of nowhere happens, it's when a song that doesn't fit and comes out of nowhere happens
When I first saw this film in the theater, the scene where the Cat gets hit in the balls and he's transported to his "happy place" is the ONLY time I heard the entire audience roar with laughter.
Shock isn't the important part. That's temporary. Disappointment that those movies were allowed to exist, on the other hand, will never really go away XD
Even when a movie's crap as a whole, it's always worth drawing attention to what does work. Plus, Carey's character as the Grinch was closer to the source material than when Eggs Benedict Cummerbund tried it.
Jim Carrey actually worked like crazy to keep his character faithful to Dr. Seuss's vision, working 93 days in that hot padded green suit, wig and makeup. Now compare that dedication to Mike Myers who, aside from goofy laughing, mature in jokes and snappy one-liners, seemed to just give up on performing after the second week of taping.
I'm a certified bibliophile. I love to read. So I asked my mom who taught me to read and she said no one. I taught myself to read by watching people read to me. My first book was Cat in the Hat. I love that book and all Sesus books. And Dr. Sesus himself. So I get annoyed when inaccurate Dr. Sesus movies come out, which is all of them.
Same here, no one taught me to read. I would have people read to me and follow along with my finger, learning what letters made what sounds or were silent, then I started reading on my own and just picked it up from there.
I’m a Book reader too, but I’ll admit there were two Dr Seuss films I enjoyed: Grinch (LA) and Horton, mostly because it’s stays true to the source material despite the flaws they have.
The animated Grinch from the 60's is somehow the only truly good Suess movie. The only one's that come close are Horton and the new animated Grinch. Those are the least bad when comparing it to Cat in the Hat, live action Grinch, and Lorax.
I can say with full confidence that I liked this movie as a kid and still like it today. I acknowledge its flaws and clear disregard for the source material but I still had a good time with it. Its bad taste and quality are what make it memorable to me :)
I thought, it was just him getting hit into the balls so hard, it turned him into a girl... But dragonball abridged did it better, with super android 13 altering the timeline by hitting goku in the dick.
for the record, when i saw this movie when I was younger i was ok with it. I guess it's because I didn't know the original message that was in the book, it just didn't stand out to me as much as the other suess books.
Even better, power levels were literally introduced for the sake of being invalidated by the heroes’ ability to strategize and use clever techniques. Hell, it can be argued that Krillin and Yajirobe did more to successfully put down Vegeta than Goku. So, the whole POINT is that they’re bullshit?! Even better.
Always love you guys reacting and discussing Nostalgia Critic reviews. I've been a huge fan of Doug Walker since forever. Hope to see more reactions! and yeah, Do The Room by NC! :)

God I had a moment like the nostalgia critic did when we had movie night on my ship while underway. I actually liked Cat in the Hat, both back then and now. I understand it's definitely not what Cat is supposed to be like from the book (then again when has a movie ever followed their books 100%?) but I still enjoyed the film. Yes the acting was bad but I still enjoyed it.
***** It is a pretty valid one, sure it's very far from the book, but almost all movies based on books move away from their source material, just look at the Hobbit, Azog, and Tueriel shouldn't have been there but they were added. Azog was dead in the book and Teuriel was added to put in "diversity"
***** Yes the movie was good but I personally enjoyed it and still do even though it strays far from its source material. And I didn't enjoy the Hobbit as much as most. Part 1 was good, I liked it but then they threw in an entire story arc that never existed, the stupid romance between Dwarf and Elf thing, for the last two goddamn films.
Has anyone noticed that they have absolutely no ads at all so they aren't getting any money from this and doing thia for just purly doing it for entrainment
I actually get the "joke" they were making when the cat got hit in the nuts with the bat and cut to him in a dress on a swing. The term "beat you til you're singing about a daisy girl." Realizing that it actually has some tie-in doesn't make it a good joke, but it's less confusing if you at least get it.
About the Joe Dirt stories...I was blissfully unaware of all the criticisms of the movie, I never even watched Siskel and Ebert, not once, ever....Granted, If i did see that show, I would have said, "No, I don't wanna see Kazaam"...lol...But If i Did I would have also turned the tv channel to something else whenever Joe Dirt popped up...I gotta say, I not only thought the movie was funny, but also weirdly touching...Like the movie states..."Life's a Garden, Dig It"
24:38 Oddly enough, they never really MADE a ride like this at the park. At least, not to my knowledge. Why use so much cash on a ride-like set, only to take it down later? It's a waste of time, money, and effort.
*Trivia:* Not long after this film's release, Dr. Seuss' widow, Audrey Geisel said that she would not allow any further live-action adaptations of Seuss' books. Can't say I blame her, I'd have a heart attack if my loved one's works are ruined by its film adaptations.

She made the right choice
Yea so we got crappy animated dr Seuss movies instead.
She should have said "No more film adaptations unless they are done by James Cameron."
Not that they're just ruined...but they were marketed the shit out of in a way Seuss himself heavily criticized and demonized as soulless corporate whoring his entire life.
"You can't depend on focus groups"
Very True
I've been in focus groups, so I know you can't trust them!

This movie probably made Dr.Seuss rolling in his grave so much he probably could be used to power a turbine generator.
lol
After this film, Suess' widow actually banned the making of live-action adaptations of his work. That's why they were all animated after this one
Obsessor23 Seriously?!
Obsessor23 wait, really?
Yes, really. I heard that because of how disrespectful of his work, let alone horrible this is, Audrey Geisel banned L.A. adaptations.
