You would think glass could be melted down in furnaces which would burn off the paper and any residue and turned into such items as medium for sandblasting. As far as plastic bags not being recycled, it would be a good reason to go back to paper bags cuz they can be completely recycled as long as they're not contaminated with food but people still use bags and cardboard boxes

Twenty years ago I was told by a landfill worker that they don't actually recycle because its too expensive. So I asked: Then why do they tell us to do it? He said: Our local leaders told their agency that this gives everyone time to learn what do & form the habit of recycling. So that when the cost of recycling comes down, everyone will already know how to do it...........but he said it won't happen in our lifetime.

About 80% goes back to the landfill. The issue is on the product side not many companies using recycled plastic.

I worked at a recycling place. People fill cans up with screws, water, etc to cheat. That’s why the price is low on cans. If you have aluminum sheet metal or something you can get decent money out of it. Or copper, brass etc. if you have some real metal just bring a bag of cans to throw in with it but it’s not worth the trip if all you have are cans. Same with steel it’s so cheap it’s not worth taking in unless you have other stuff. Copper and brass or pure aluminum is where the money is.

I find it interesting that you should bring up this subject, considering that I have been saying this for years. This is not new. The majority of the recycle goes into the trash with everything else. I even asked a representative of the refuse collection company that takes care of my collection and he told me when I pushed the issue about what you do with the recycle, and he kept saying we recycle and process it. When I pushed further and asked how do you process it and where does it go. The end result is yes they may process it for some things, but the majority of it goes right into the trash with everything else. There is no such thing as recycle. They just want us to think there is a recycling system that the government requires everyone to do. It is just a pretty picture that does not exist. The worst part is we pay for it.

Now I have to pay a tax so the city can contract a private company to collect recyclables. Then that company picks out the items they can sell and sends the rest that isn't worth anything to them to the landfill. So now I pay taxes so a contracted company who gets paid to collect the recycling and then that company also gets a profit from selling certain collected recyclables and trashing the rest.
