Could've told y'all that 40 years ago ... but then again I'm a chemical engineer making all those evil things that cause cancer in California - and keep our civilization running ... LOL ...
😄
I like content of other topic like this energy topic. Keep the videos going. I've been a long-time subscriber, and I have enjoyed your videos ever since then.
You would think glass could be melted down in furnaces which would burn off the paper and any residue and turned into such items as medium for sandblasting. As far as plastic bags not being recycled, it would be a good reason to go back to paper bags cuz they can be completely recycled as long as they're not contaminated with food but people still use bags and cardboard boxes
Scotty: As for nuke power plants here where I live we have a college that has plans OKED by the NRC for plants as small as a semi-trailer to as large as a regional power plant but they can't build any of them here in the states because the federal, state and local governments won't let them be built.
Hey Scotty,
Owens Corning has a facility that recycles glass into insulation
But ya recycling is mostly bull crap
I'm almost 58 and I remember myself and older brother returning bottles for cash. Those were such fun times, and I'm serious! A simple life when I was a kid.
Great times and memories collecting bottles for pocket change!
@@phillyfathead Yep, when you're a kid, it's great!
I was a kid visiting family in México in the 90s and I remember taking soda bottles every time we wanted to buy soda. No plastic bottles just glass bottles.
Yep, i used to put rocks in cans to get more money!
They do that where I live. I take those suckers right over there and pocket me some cash!
My mother recycles religiously. Not me. As far as the the stuff that can't be recycled, I'm not too worried about it. We've been lied to about everything, so why is it a shock to find out we've been lied to about recycling???
Everything. I don't know if you really understand the depths of that. I can tell you that the sun ain't 93 million miles away!! We live in a dome. Everything is a lie.
How much you wanna bet we've been lied to about global warming?!?!?😅
You should get out the house more because where I live most things are actually recycled.
North america has a waste problem. Landfills are running out of space.
We might need to reform recycling and wastefulness. Not abandoning it...
Twenty years ago I was told by a landfill worker that they don't actually recycle because its too expensive. So I asked: Then why do they tell us to do it? He said: Our local leaders told their agency that this gives everyone time to learn what do & form the habit of recycling. So that when the cost of recycling comes down, everyone will already know how to do it...........but he said it won't happen in our lifetime.
Our local area is keen to recycle. Partly because there is a Government landfill tax of the equivalent of aprox $100 per 1,000 kilos.
Exactly the same thing happens in the biggest city here in New Zealand
I have a blanket made out of recycled plastic. They sell carpet made from recycled plastic. They do recycle about 10% of it and burn about 10% as fuel plastic can be used that way. About 80% goes back to the landfill. The issue is on the product side not many companies using recycled plastic.
many years ago china stopped taking our junk so it was stuck in the ports with no where to go
I hear now that most motor oil is not recycled either because of contamination.
Who else is tired of the green energy scam?
Only seven Billion people
it over minkind is srew with recylce green energy!
both
ICE cars are almost 90% recyclable. Lithium - Ion batteries are not!
Most things democrats propose are scams
Scotty is a mix of mechanic, scientist, comedian, and a reporter in one personality 😊
An entire 6 foot f150 bed full of cans and bottles gets me about $80
Six month project that junks up my yard for $80 bucks.
I'm over it.
I worked at a recycling place. People fill cans up with screws, water, etc to cheat. That’s why the price is low on cans. If you have aluminum sheet metal or something you can get decent money out of it. Or copper, brass etc. if you have some real metal just bring a bag of cans to throw in with it but it’s not worth the trip if all you have are cans. Same with steel it’s so cheap it’s not worth taking in unless you have other stuff. Copper and brass or pure aluminum is where the money is.
Going to take you awhile to pay that $153,000 off
@@randallfabian6640 153,000?
Just try cans then
Scarp isn’t worth noting now smh
I have seen my local garbage company empty both the trash bin and recycle bin in the same trash truck at the same time.
I'm pretty sure they have separate compartments one for recycling and one for trash but no sure cause I think its two separate trucks that come by on recycling day one for trash and one for green.
Me too. On same truck for both containers. The feel good containers what I call them.😅
If you only have 1 trash can and 1 recycling can, it helps to recycle because it aleviates your trash can from filling up as fast.
But really, all you have is two trash cans because they both end up in the landfill together.
Remember that old joke.
What's the difference between recycling to save the planet and buying a EV to save the planet?
Nothing!
Enjoy the car you have.
In order to make recycling glass economically feasible YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT CHEAPER THAN SAND!!!
In my building, the trash shoot has a panel of sorting options, e.g. regular garbage, plastics and cans, newspapers and cardboard, etc. But when I went down to trash room where the shoot leads I saw that it all went to the same place anyway, and a WM truck comes once or twice a week and crushes it all together.
Yes, it's a bunch of bull to make some people feel good and to make other people money.
I think you mean "chute."
@@stephengorin2685 I think you are correct, thank you.
And they don't recycle wind turbine propellers! Made out of fiberglass!!! So they just bury them in the ground 😂WTF!
And they only last 10 years before they have to be replaced.
Fibre "glass" - yes they bury the glass 😂😂😂😂
They plant them so they can grow new ones 🙃
@@youdontknowme5969 so that’s how that works! 😱
It's ALWAYS been a scam!
I worked in the construction industry here in Ottawa Canada, several times when I would deliver commercial plumbing supplies I followed a few of these recycling trucks to the local dump/land fill.
About 20 years ago the Swedes studied their recycling program, found it was expensive trash and dumped it.
"Expensive trash" I see what you did there.
As a plastics engineer I can confirm that most recycling is horse manure
At least horse manure can be recycled 🤔
Damned shame
Been like that for over .
Sharyl Atkisson on Full Measure is the new 60 Minutes.
@@FiveBoroNative Especially when it can be turned back into oil/a fuel product basically.
I don't know the full details or how much energy etc that's needed but there's certainly a piece of equipment that can do it.
Insane to think trash we throw away as kids is still in landfills today. 😢 Thanks for the video!
$153k for a f150? 50 years ago that could buy a nice house.
That’s why I keep driving my 1994 GMC Sierra.
Im a trucker in Southern california I haul trash to landfills and recycled material. Cardboard, plastic , anything that is recycled per se. Its a huge scam, majority of trash taken to the land fill I would say 75percent is plastic and cardboard , even green waste 10 percent construction material and the rest regular house trash
Yep I work in landfill engineering. It’s all buried, there is a liner to prevent the chemicals from leaching into the water / soil. The garbage decomposes and the gas is burned off in a flare system, which are regulated for emissions
I live in a Condo and they have a recycle area. Except once a week the maintenance guys toss all the recycling stuff in the dumpster.
I hand my bag of cans to whatever homeless guy is standing around near the recycling thingy. they always appreciate it lol
Aluminum is worth recycling. It is not a scam. Plastics and other materials are indeed a massive state funded ripoff.
ALL OF CALIFORNIA IS A DISASTER BUT THEY GOT RID OF PLASTIC STRAWS
You are a disaster
CA and NY need to drift off into the ocean. Garbage states
If you need some plastic straws. I know a guy.
What are you talking about? We have straws.
Nope, we have straws… stop yelling, geez…lol
I drive a truck. On a recent project, we picked up barrels of vegetable and some fruit scraps from a local supermarket chain and transported them to a site where they would be turned into some sort of usable gas or liquid or something. The project didn't last long. Maybe a month.
If done right, it can be a way to produce methane gas. It's not a quick way to create it. However, once you get it going and have a proper setup to collect the gas it is a good way to use up composting trash. That and you can end up with good black dirt in the end as well.
Here in IN. I watched a garbage truck empty the dumpster full of trash into the truck, backed up and moved over and emptied the recycle bin into the truck also, I watched them do it several times, I knew then it was a joke
They do that in phila too.
In Indianapolis, they charge you to pick up the recyclables... which go eventually to the regular garbage. So, they want to charge us twice for garbage.
@@TheJorgSacul , fort Wayne too !
I never liked nuclear power but now it seems the best viable option.
Pray tell how this comment has anything to do with the topic?
@@mandobob At 8 minutes in he is talking about nuclear power.
There is one good point: my municipality charges for trash, but not for recycling or garden waste. But otherwise, yes, the recycling economy has failed.
I thought that Obamacare was supposed to save America.
@@ericschneider8524Bruh Obamacare is healthcare
I am retired fire service and if I was forced to have an electric car, it would never be parked in my garage or close to my house. If they ever catch on fire, they are pretty much impossible to put out with standard fire fighting methods, IE , water. The car will usually burn down to the frame along with your house. Check out the e-bike issues they are having in cities like New York. Those small batteries have burst into flames and killed people in multifamily dwellings. Scary.
Don't ever be forced to do ANYTHING you don't want to do!
Glass is much better . Deposit bottles were income for me as a kid .
Wish we still used glass more then.
Like it or not, my county forces you to recycle if you want curbside trash receptacles. When you go directly to the dump, it is all household trash. Go figure.
I am in Georgia and I am made to pay for both garbage and recycling Ok, they had me for awhile, then about seven or eight years ago the cost to recycle and garbage when up three fold. Non the less I had many exposes on recycling under my belt at that time and I knew full well most if not all were ending up in the landfill. So far I have saved hundreds by canceling the recycling.
Every store in California thats charges a CRV for "recyling" is required to accept these bottles and cans and pay back the fees. Virtually all stores refuse to cooperate, even with the required lawful signage on their wall.
Here in NS Canada, we have to sort compost, plastic, paper, glass. Well most of it goes to a site that takes the majority of it, ship it to the Philippines, where they burn it.
My dad is a retired garbage man. He said 2-3 days a week the recycling machine wasn’t working. On those days he said they just dumped it with the regular trash.
I work as a foreman at a waste collecting facility. I can tell you that in my country they DO recycle different kinds of waste. soft plastics, hard plastics, HDPE and PVC. Maybe it's different in the USA?
Yea no kidding, here in my town they stored plastics in a warehouse as no company would take it to recycle. After 100 of thousands of storage costs they just put it in land fill.
It’s burnt to produce electricity & area heating near were it live. Landfill is taxed at roughly equivalent to $100 per 1,000 kilo.
I dont recycle bottles/other trash. I recycle scrap metal.
Same.
@@jaminova_1969 cheers
Repurpose, dont recycle
Metal is money. Period.
My family drinks 15-20 aluminum soda cans each day. I smash them and store them in a shed. I've got 3 sheds full of aluminum cans now.
In Pinellas County Florida, we 'recycle' stuff to put in the furnace to create electricity
Glass is a fantastic storage Material! Rodents don't chew through it
We have regular trash and recycling bins at my apartment complex. Do you know where it all goes? into the same garbage truck…
In Australia two trucks, don't know if it ends up where we think it goes, i do know that there are recycling plants but as the amount grows, the excess probably goes into landfill...
I work for a city, we have "recycle labeled" cans. we just tossed the recycle cans in the same dumpster as the trash
Why are manufacturer's not encouraged to recycle by reducing cooperate taxes according to volume of recycling of thier own products and they should show proof of it to urn that tax rebate.
Great idea! We need to pitch this to our government representatives. And pressure them to put it into action.
recycling is a huge scam. where I live (Danmark) only 13% of all recycling actually gets recycled, the rest goes to other countries to be incinerated. I did some research and it seems to be pretty much the same everywhere on the planet.
certain ppl own these companies, they get paid to basically do nothing, they own banks aswell...
2:46-Actually, they’re not “sealing” nuclear waste in glass, they’re *embedding* it in glass logs-even if the log breaks, the waste remains sealed off from the environment…
And yes, it IS a thing…
I find it interesting that you should bring up this subject, considering that I have been saying this for years. This is not new. The majority of the recycle goes into the trash with everything else. I even asked a representative of the refuse collection company that takes care of my collection and he told me when I pushed the issue about what you do with the recycle, and he kept saying we recycle and process it. When I pushed further and asked how do you process it and where does it go. The end result is yes they may process it for some things, but the majority of it goes right into the trash with everything else. There is no such thing as recycle. They just want us to think there is a recycling system that the government requires everyone to do. It is just a pretty picture that does not exist. The worst part is we pay for it.
As someone that has worked in waste management.
This is 100% true
Thanks so much for opening our eyes, Scotty!
Really sad with ALL our technology ...
Focus is on other things 💰🤑
Yea but it’s not profitable…
Yes, Nuclear and Hydro Power have always been the way to go but that just makes to much sense in a world full of mental patients.
They have had the tech to remove 90% of the pollutants coal burning powerplants 50 years ago...
I happened to be at the end my driveway when the trash truck came last week. Both barrels the recycling barrel and the trash barrel were dumped in the same bin. I'm like wtf why am I recycling if it all goes in the same place.
Why? I do it to save on trash bags, only use one or two a week because of it, and those things are expensive 🤷♀️
IN INDIA THEY throw everything into rivers that end up in the ocean. I've seen it. 5000 years of culture. CHINA pretty much the same...or worse.
Yet Greta Thurnberg blames the US and Western Europe.
Yeah Chyna is very bad, Been watching SerpentZA for over 12 years (He lived in Chyna for 14 years).
Same in South Africa
This is so true. I live in GA and my Garbologist (Trash Man) told me that anything that I put in my recycling can just goes right in the back of his garbage truck and goes straight to the dump. It is not recycled. He told me to put whatever I wanted in either of my cans because none of it is recycled.
Best way to recycle glass was 50 yrs ago you'd take the bottles back get 2 -5 cents depending on the size they would wash them , refill them Not as cheap as throw away but made more cents not as much litter either.
Saw a vid in here not long ago, the guy hid a tracker in a plastic bag he recycled at the supermarket. It went to Germany, then Poland, then ended up in Turkey where he tracked it down to a dump where it was being burnt.
I saw one of the "think green, think clean" trucks just the other day here in Ontario. There was garbage flying out from the back of it, and the truck itself was rusted and not well maintained. They must not have the money to take care of their own machinery.
Metal and cardboard are valuable.
I live in So. California and even though we have separate containers for recyclables and waste, it all goes to the same dump site as China no longer takes our garbage.
Have seen this with my own eyes in Lewisville, Texas about 15 years ago. Couldn’t believe I was seeing a recycling truck dumping in the landfill. Not cool.
Plastics are the hardest materials to recycle. There are 100's+ types of plastics and the labor required to sort them for recycling often exceeds the cost of new. But the worst are
plastic bags. They are so time consuming and difficult to handle that most waste facilities just dump them in landfills. Our tax dollars at work.
My family quit 6 mths ago! After I heard we send our recycles to China who told us "we dont want your recycles anymore, deal with it yourselves"!
Plastic
They would just dump it in the ocean anyway. That's why the Pacific garbage patch exists.
Scotty indicated the manual transmission is indeed bullet proof. And cost less to maintain.
There's a Ai machine that actually separates paper, plastic and glass in a recycle plant. I think i seen it on 60 Minutes.
Scotty makes soo much sense! Good job!!! Ring that bell!
I have a 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. That's the first year for the hybrid Highlander. That's 17 years with nothing but fluid changes and tire replacement. In 2008 they started to get bigger and bigger. This was one of the best investments I ever made. It still gets 27 mpg on average and i only use it for pleasure not bumper to bumper commuting. The car is as reliable and useful as is possible. Toyota builds reliable and well designed and built vehicles.
a hybrid is much different than a full electric vehicle
a hybrid is much different than a full electric vehicle
Hybrid makes ALOT more sense than total EV. Plus hybrid Toyotas recharge while driving....off brake use etc. so no electricity is needed to charge the batteries!
In your wisest years you are becoming what you are meant to be Scotty. We used to have many men like yourself but now you are a rarity. Great work!
Stop using plastic where you can.
Chose aluminum cans for water and soda
Aluminum is linked to alzheimers disease. Just use iron or stainless steel
glass is best, wish more companies did programs where you get money back for turning in their bottles
@@luckiestluck819 It worked great decades ago but common sense has disappeared.
Aluminum cans have plastic liners.

Toyota said I needed my alternator replaced and they utilized my factory warranty to install a remanufactured replacement. I felt scammed. Toyota does the same as Tesla.
They need to figure out how to recycle glass. Glass needs a special kind of sand, and the Saharan sand doesn't work. So much sand, unusable.
interesting
If I take some trash over to the transfer station you can watch the regular trash trucks and the recycle trash trucks both driving into the dump point and dump their loads to be trucked out of town to the land fill. They don't even try to hide it.
I live in phila,pa. The trash men mix the trash and throw the recycling in the trash truck too. What's the sence of having separate buckets if it's going to the same place 😆
I was facilities manager in a large food factory where a lot of human energy was spent sorting into different containers. In the end, we put everything into a compactor with raw food waste and everwent the dump. I felt bad but I didn't set up the program. It opened my eyes however. I tried to change it but I was overruled.
I've known this for years. I use my recycling bin for my extra regular trash.
You are the problem.
That’s not a new study. 20 years ago it was known recycling was a waste of money. The cities loose money recycling. Trucks, gas, salaries, repairs on trucks, it’s a waste of time and money
The scam was the people that invested it the idea knew( politician, gives contract to a family member/friend, controlled by a front company(ies) or trust etc, it's like money laundering)...
You could bring your plastic bags to your local food bank. That is what I used to do when my church had a food bank.
Yes it is. I move transfer trailers and the recycling trucks just dump in the transfer station.
Crushed glass used with pavement, I think in Pennsylvanian has out lasted other methods!
I recently had to replace my burnt out led tv. Tried to find anyplace to recycle the dead set but was told to "just put it out with my trash."
Green is the color of mould, comes after the blue of rigor mortis 😅
I work in the industry and for over ten years ive told people that unless its metal you are wasting your time trying to recycle. I watch the trucks dump the recycle loads into the landfill all the time, they dont even try to hide it.
The only financially viable solution for used glass is to dump it off-shore and allow the tides to grind it back down into sand!
I seen where they had a trash bin where one side recycle and the other trash and see them throw both bags into the trash bins
As a devout environmentalist, I was always trying to recycle whenever I could. But except for recycling aluminum, it’s all a big farce!
I loaded a pickup truck with a full load of paper to recycle and got almost a dollar for the trouble. It definitely wasn’t worth it.
😡
I've known this for a long time. Work a construction job and go to the dump and drop off the demo trash and realize it's the same place as the recycle center (At least that's how it is in Atlantic County New Jersey). The Chinese that buy the fluff plastic dump it in the ocean and blame you for it.
your right. Used as a tax on people who purchase products with a recycle fee. Wonder where that tax money goes?
Yeah, because they used to sell it to China, but those closed down with Cocoa puffs lock down in 2020.
Grateful that there is a company who collects the soft plastics - wrapping, grocery bags, etc. And uses it in their composite decking material
Ever since my city started charging real estate taxes for recycling it's been a scam. We used to get money for soda bottles and aluminum cans. Now I have to pay a tax so the city can contract a private company to collect recyclables. Then that company picks out the items they can sell and sends the rest that isn't worth anything to them to the landfill. So now I pay taxes so a contracted company who gets paid to collect the recycling and then that company also gets a profit from selling certain collected recyclables and trashing the rest.
Scotty watching your show convinced me that as mad man I ain't alone ❤
Scotty tells it like it is and it hurts...
So are they gonna stop charging us in California the crv tax for glass and plastic ?? 🙄🙄🤬
Commifornia not gonna stop charging for anything lol get out while you still can.
Wait till you hear about the commercialization of CO2 in the form of carbon credits.
Corrugated boxes and newsprint are very easy to recycle, saves energy, and saves trees. Mixed paper is pretty recyclable also but less valuable because of contaminants like glue and plastics relegate its use to lower quality grades. Pressed pulp egg cartons are made with recycled newsprint and also can go into the mixed paper recycle bin along with paper tubes, wrapping paper, envelope papers and office paper.
theres no such thing as saving trees, there are trees grown and replanted specifically for manufacturing paper and wooden products
Scotty, Uranium 235 Oxide is encased in ceramic pellets.
When I was a kid, about ten years old, it was difficult to earn money. I recycled soda bottles 2 cents for small ones and 5 cents for bug ones. It was a great way for me to get the money I needed to buy smokes. A pack of Camels was 18 cents. I learned about money and also how to smoke and curse. I enjoyed it all!
Plastic is miserably hard to recycle. Aluminum and steel are easy, glass is dubious, cardboard and newspaper not too bad.
People shouldn't buy electric until they have battery exchange stations. Australia supposedly has had them since the early 2000s
Exactly 💯. Reality doesn't go away just because we ignore it.
We had a reclining facility open up in Statesville, closed down in less than a year.
I watched my former garbage collector, you know the Blue, and Green etc containers, truck pick up a blue container move forward and pick up a green container. Move to the next house abound repeat. Recycling in action. It was costing me 55 per month plus a surcharge because the trucks destroyed our oiled road and then damaged their trucks. One of my neighbors bought a very nice dump trailer and hauls it to the local dump with 4 weeks of trash from 5 Neighbors and it cost me 10 dollars per month. By the way, no sorting trash. Dump 80 miles RT costs him 50 dollars in fuel. My cost20 instead of 110 for two months
I did wrk at an airport yrs ago, they had recycling sorting bins, all bins got dumped in 1 dumpster 😂😂😂im like they're not even trying to hid it. It's always been a scam. This was 12 yrs ago too
In Washington State the governor forces you to pay for every plastic bag you get from the grocery store.
In Australia, that was nation wide, now you can't buy plastic bags (single use)...
