As a youngster my dad got a draft down to HMS Ariel as it was then in 1965. We lived on the camp in a bungalow on Implacable Rd. right next to the small Tailors shop, which itself was right next to an Aircraft hangar which had Gannets inside. It was a great place for two young lads to roam about, wed get freindly with loads of instructors and even officers, and they'd let us sit in the plane cockpits. No health and safety in those days! For some reason they changed the name to Daedalus. My dad was with the Fleet Air Arm gun crew for 3 years. He let us fire the cannon in the equipment shed one time! It was like a huge adventure playground for me and my brother. Loved it!
