There is an option in the PS4 settings that allows you to Increase Remote Play Quality of your PS Vita.
I'm unsure if people know about this but it definitely helped me to increase the remote play quality on my ps vita in 2020.

Keeping that "direct to PS Vita" box checked means that the PS4 and Vita will connect via some kind of crappy connection generated directly between them. Uncheck it and you'll connect your Vita to your PS4 through wifi and you can effectively stream your PS4 from your Vita. Infinitely better, even just from bed.

This is because the Vita will as the option says, connect directly to the ps 4, while with it uncheck the ps 4 connects to the router and the Vita connects to the router which will work much better for for long distance

Here's another tip that might help with remote play.

Don't have the option checked that allows you to connect your Vita directly to your PS4 because then it becomes just like a Wii U gamepad...
have it connected over Wi-Fi. I sit outside in my car to smoke at night and play my ps4 using my Vita from about 30 yards away.

@@SuperJumpReviews if it's parked closer to the house I can just connect it to the same Wi-Fi that my PS4 is hardwired to or more than likely I use a range extender with an extension cord. I haven't gotten it to work anywhere else though but the range extender is a different connection for the Wi-Fi. I've only tried to connect to my PS4 at two other places through their Wi-Fi but they aren't known to be good internet spots so next time I have it with me at a friend's house or something I'll try it then and leave my PS4 in sleep mode.

Just if its not hard wired, make sure your PS4/Pro is connected to your router on the same 2.4 WiFi signal as your Vita/TV and NOT 5G.
Its a shame so many people missed this fact. I found it on ps4s launch and remote play has always been 99% perfect.
It'll never be 100% perfect. Same as PS Now (vastly and criminally underrated) Xbox cloud and Google Stadia.

When checked it use the ps4 wifi, you have to be close and youll get better inputlag. When its uncheck the connection pass over the internet and over the world. Thats why

what magic is this?
There are a lot of factors when it comes to Local Remoteplay, be it Vita, PC, or your Phone. Yes, the option of unchecking "direct connect" and using your router to blast the signal helps by leaps and bounds, and still further the option on the device itself to disable WIFI low power modes. That won't be it for everyone though, you're going to need a more modern router with atleast AC wireless tech (this is because you will be insured the newest and most efficient tech for WIFI signaling and the new beam forming tech), and if you live in an older home with thick walls and questionable construction.. (my home is 120yrs old, many of the walls are stucco and chicken wire.. and we all know cross hatched metal wires are a signals nemesis) What you really need is a WIFI mesh network... I.E. a router/repeater per floor or area where you are getting spotty network, and said routers connected via CAT5e or better, that way you get great coverage throughout your home- set it and forget it.
oh wow, that's some high tech stuff. Have you ever tried trying out remote play on vita while you're away from home before?
SuperJumpReviews Sure, playing over the internet is a tad laggy at times but works very well. That would also be dependent on the WIFI of the area you are in. Most people tell me it works better for them over their phones mobile hotspot than on their home network- but then our phones are some of the most upto date tech, and that hotspot is no more than 2feet away at all times isn’t it :)

Well, im from the future. They have this thing coming out in December that's called a steam deck. It's a handheld pc that can play anything you throw at it with everything you can get with a regular controller. Meaning, L3 and R3, R2 and L2. The push down fashion of the joystick.
Remote play, the feature that truly made the Vita ahead of it's time!

That's a very good video idea suggestion! I'll look into that for a future video. Question, you mention some games have issues because of the L3/R3 thing. How do some ps4 games get around that? Is it mapped to the back touch?
@@SuperJumpReviews It is just REALLY hard to accurately hit the L2/R2/L3/R3 sections of the rear touch screen. I just recently ordered a case with L2/R2 buttons, but the only reasonable case with L3/R3 is outrageously expensive ($250+ on Ebay). I will report back on the quality of case.

The reason why I got a Slim (recently) is because of that Hori "Remote Play" grip you can get for it, which is truly awesome, really really awesome, even more considering you can get to freagging online.

And if your vita is hacked you can remap remote play controls so they aren’t on the front screen, but they’re on the back for the hori l2/r2.

I've never had problems with remote play. I even use my phone (a Moto g5 so nothing fancy) as a hotspot while I'm at work 6 miles away. My PS4 isn't even on a wired connection. Maybe 1st Gen Vita is the problem? I have the Vita slim. Works great, all the time, every time.

Never have I ever connected directly to the devices with the second option, always have used the internet to connect which only happens if the second option is disabled.
That being said when I'm at my relatives on weekends the connection can still get pretty choppy, and forget about playing any online games with remote play at different locations. Otherwise the connection pretty much goes,
PS4>GAME>CONNECT TO SERVER>UPLOAD GAMEPLAY>VITA>DOWNLOAD GAMEPLAY>>UPLOAD INPUTS TOPS4>PS4 UPLOAD TO GAME SERVER.
Introduce major input lag as a result. Single player games are playable at best as there is less steps involved to complete the connection.
I'm gonna try the remote play from outside my house soon.

Do I need to resnyc the vita everytime I remote play or am i good after the one time?
You're probably fine after the first time but if you ever notice you're having trouble or that it's taking too long to sync then just do another setting restore.

Also plugging in the ps4 directly with Ethernet cable will help cut down on connection issues and improve lag time even further. I play my vita in the bedroom about 30ft and one wall between the ps4 and my vita with no issues.. Played spiderman in the bed.

I've played GTA through my Vita 200 miles from my PS4 back home. And I've managed to make a connection to use my PS Camera (I like to check on the cats) 5000 miles away in Seattle Washington from my home in the UK. I didn't play any games but I'm guessing that would've worked okay too.

@@SuperJumpReviews A bit of a life-hack, by just using the camera setup option in the PS4 settings, I can see activate and view it through the Vita. My cats typically hang out in front of or on the sofa I play PS4 from in the main living room.
My wifi is trash so its not a big improvement but it helped a bit thank you so much

I can’t seem to get it to work away from home... I see many people on TH-cam showing it working away from home and it’s it’s supposed to work across the globe. But when I’m 5 miles away on WiFi and my PS4 pro is in resting mode and it my vita never finds my PS4
hm.....Are you getting some sort of error message or is the vita just not making a connection? Is the PS4 set as the primary account?

To atempt to beter explain the second option, the ps4 creates a network that the vita can connect to for the remote play stream, instead of using your wifi to do so. while it can be poor at times and is susceptible to interference it can be preferable if your Wi-Fi speeds are slow or are in a location without access to a router

You know whats crazy, My vita work in the opposite. When i just have remote enable i get a lagged connection. But when i have the 2nd option to connect directly to my ps4 i get a near perfect connection. And i have a gaming router and my ps4 is connect through lans cable

The vita has a crappy outdated wifi anyways. So even with this option, it still lags quite a often. 5Ghz is really needed, sadly we probably will never see another handheld from sony again for an updated wifi card.

May have found one more thing to help, I recently turned QoS off on my router, I thought this was something to make your network better but its more of a management option. Nobody else using my network but me so it’s useless, but after I turned that off I did remote play and I had the most lag free low latency experience I’ve ever had since getting my vita. Was playing gta online in another room with walls in between with no sputtering at all
I'm not that familiar with router settings, what does QoS stand for again? And how do I turn it off?
Stands for quality of service, is there to basically prioritize bandwidth of your router, so if you have multiple devices fighting for space on your network you can give priority to certain devices, usually they may have settings that will default certain devices for only so much bandwidth. Movies and games usually get high priority and web browsing on your lap top low.
Turning it off just opens the faucet wide for whatever using it.
My first experience was so terrible, i have poor WiFi and i had to sit right next to the ps4. Im hoping this will fix it next time I try, and I haven't tried it when connected to another network. Would that work?

I'm not sure what the previous PS4 update was - the one that brought remote play to Android / iOS (I think iOS?) - but prior to that, I had the settings how you have them. Top check, bottom uncheck. And I could remote play in a hotel 100 miles away fine (for, example).
SINCE that update; I can no longer remote play with them settings. I get a multitude of error codes (a different one each time ) - I can only remote play with both boxes checked.
I do not know what to do :/ (yes, like you, it's laggy as hell and breaks up at more than 10 feet away so RP upstairs is a no go now.)

Think there might be something to that, since that iOS app came out I’ve tried to connect remote on my vita when I was literally in the same room with my PS4 and router and it would tell me my connection wasn’t strong enough lol, usually not a problem but has happened, i played borderlands handsome collection on vita via remote a couple days ago and it worked fine

No, you need internet. How else are you going to make the connection between the two?
The trick to making it work away from home is to use Bluetooth tethering and connect that way to psvita, especially if you get Nat type 3 connection block

There were only like 3 games and a couple of apps that worked(poorly) on the PS3 remote play. So it wouldn’t make for much of a video, only thing that app was really good for was turning a PS3 off if your in another room and don’t feel like getting up
I get a "could not connect to the ps4 system" error. Any ideas why? I've tried restarting and restoring several times with no success. I've gotten the first method to work but not the second. Could it be a network issue?

I have done all of this and my vita is still having issues even when im in front of my PS4. Connected via ethernet, tried both directly connected and on wifi and also have wifi power save mode off.. Nothing seems to be working

@@SuperJumpReviews I bought a new Surface last year and I haven't tried it yet. I'm gonna have to redownload the app again.
From my experience, it was a bit laggy on the Surface Pro 3. My guess could be because of it's i3 processor. My current Surface has an i7 processor so it MIGHT be less laggy. Another downside is that you can't use the PS4 controller wirelessly, it has to be plugged into the Surface. On the plus side, the screen is bigger.
In my honest opinion, remote play sounds better using a Vita because that's how Sony intended it to be

My PS Vita won't connect to my ps4 for sum reason it keep saying can't connect to ps4 when I'm tryna connect directly to ps4, I rested my PS Vita and it still don't work can somebody help ?

Pro Tip: Make sure to uncheck the “Use Wi-Fi in Power Save Mode” [_] box on the Vita as well as it will make your Vita communicate with less power on it’s wireless LAN connection. Better performance if you uncheck that box. Trust me.
Settings > Power Save Settings -> Use Wi-Fi in Power Save Mode [_]
Not sure if you know about that also. Someone else in the comments suggested doing that.
My problem are the clunky controls and the button mapping. Any Shooter or Racing Game uses R2 to shoot or accelerate so why can’t I remap the R button on the Vita as my R2 button but have to use the Touch Screen instead? Such a shame
True, I wish they would have not included the camera and back touch and just given us L2 and R2 buttons instead.

It almost felt like cheating because you could target your shoot more precisely than with a stick
but otherwise I can't remember any good implantation ( besides Tearaway ) of the touchpads or cameras.
Same! I've never played fifa on vita but I can agree the only other game I've played that made good use of the backtouch was Tearaway.

I have already loaded injustice gods games amoug psp file size 3.03GB In order to play on the phone, Andrews uses the ppsspp program to play. But when I press into ppsspp, I can't find the picture of the game that I have loaded, but other files in the game are complete. But the picture that has been pressed into the game is like god ofwar ghot sparta.
Normally playing god of war in the Andrew system via ppsspp. It will have a picture of the game. Let us click on that image to play, but as I loaded injustice gods amoug psp, it doesn't have a picture to press into the game, but the movie sound file
to be fair, connecting directly is probably meant to work in the same room. it'd be meant for if you want something else on the tv or if you want to play lying on your bed. or maybe if you have a pstv, you can avoid needing another hdmi cable.
plus wifi might be more laggy for some people

haha, you can use your phone as a hotspot.
I thought that option was fairly clear? if you tick it, it connects to a signal sent by the ps4, if unticked, it connects via the wifi in your house.

@@daradigiovanni4034 They both have to be on because what essentially is happening is that the vita becomes the ps4 through remote play therefore the ps4 has to be on. You can put the ps4 into sleep mode but when the vita has access to it, the ps4 turns on. Does that make sense?

I have a playstaion 4 in italy connected to the internet via fiber optic.
I'm in UK now, and I'm considering buying a PS Vita to play titles like Dragon Quest XI, Detroit, and Devil May Cry 5 in remote.
Do you think that for this kind of games I can have a satisfying gaming experience?
Dragon Quest XI should be a pretty smooth experience since I doubt there's a lot of sudden movements in that game. Generally turn based rpgy's work well. Detroit will work even better since you're mostly just selecting actions to do while the game waits for. My biggest concern might be Devil May Cry 5 since that requires a little more specific timing with the combos. It shouldn't be too bad though. As long as it's not a fighting game.
I'm still puzzled about why ..... when i tap the button on the controller to play vita with a controller sometimes it will work. Other times it demands i use a second profile. Not sure what is going on there. But i want to use a controller while using my own profile and not a brand new one that's been created. I have had it work before. So i know it's possible. Please do a video about that. This helped .... a bit.
I’ve found casually a new way to improve to 100% the quality of streaming , just put off the WI-FI on ps4 and keep on the Wi-Fi on ps vita, check the box for connect ps vita directly to ps4 and it will run perfectly smooth and in HD, if you are in your room , perfect for plying in bed during the night. Try it!
oh yeah, I think I tried that before. I mentioned it in my second video or maybe some else in the comments said it, I can't remember😂
