I also felt so bad for her because there were so many rumors All My Children was going to be cancelled but she remained reassuring to the fans it wasn't going anywhere.
The network basically led them all on. She was given her schedule into the next year, and a month later they cancelled the show. It’s the worst decision ABC ever made. I saw an interview that she did where she said one of the sponsors actually left the network when AMC was cancelled.

It actually came to light recently that Agnes had written a different final episode, but then the show was picked up by Prospect Park, so a different finale was written to leave the show open ended.
I don't know why she even said that, since Agnes hadn't written a word of that finale. I have the actual script cover. The final episode was taped in pieces over six different days in August 2011 (18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, 29th, 30th). All of the writers involved are listed. Agnes is not. If she had written it, legally via WGA regulations, her name would have to be credited being that she was a guild member.
