Inspired by the cartoonish or comic book style of Shatterpoint's art, I applied a filter to this video to make it sort of look a bit more like a cartoon. What do you think?
Jason R 1 second ago I know they are different types of games somewhat, but compared to sw legion, which is better or do you like more? I’m a huge sw legion player, and intrigued by this
Thanks, Crab’. Awesome review. I am on the fence still and all this valuable information is making it easier to decide whether to take the plunge or not. Thanks again.
Got mine along with my kenobi and dooku boxes earlier today, looking forward to spending the next couple of weeks assembling and painting then getting some games in with a friend who wants to try it. However I hope my gut feeling is wrong about long term support, but its worrying to already see contents of the retailer support kits being sold online before game release, along side ahsoka before release. Where in the UK there was a shortage of the pre-order bonuses, LGSs getting far less than their pre-orders on core boxes. Many people including myself couldn't get one, which is a shame as I wanted to paint it up as a gift for non miniatures gamer friend as Ahsoka is one of her favourite characters. Just have to wait and see I suspect locally it won't break through its almost all GW here. But hopefully can find somewhere a little further a field for the odd Saturday or Sunday playing a friendly tourney.
Super excited to get into this game. Never built miniatures before, but I've dabbled in painting some Imperial Assault figures. It's intimidating, but exciting!
The synergies have so much potential for thematic battles. Anakin going Order 66 against Luminara, or Jango Fett commanding his own Mandos. Or, what I'm looking forward to: Grievous and his MagnaGuards going Clone Wars 2003 on Jedi. Also here's hoping they release Qui-Gon and Padawan Obi-Wan (with Senate Guards or Naboo security?)
Maybe I missed it, but my biggest question I didn’t hear you answer dealt with theme: does it feel like Star Wars?? I’ve watched a couple play throughs and I never got the feeling that this was Star Wars I was watching. How Star Wars-y is it??
Looking forward to getting my hands on one now, been a victim to the focused fire on key characters and really like that Shatterpoint has a way to combat that
I took hunker as basically Dodge in Legion. Abstractly the unit is dodging a volley in the wide open. Same as hunker in the wide open. My one complaint is maybe they should have used similar language to give a connection to the other lines. FFG had similarities between all of the SW games. Be it art, icons and language.
Do you know if Atomic Mass Games will be doing starter boxes of Armada… they did legion Imperial box and rebels box where you get blizzard force? And Xwing
Don't see why they wouldn't, I mean one 40k faction has more minis than all legion combined and there are loads of units to add to legion, it's an untapped gold mine that I really thing AMG need to start developing things faster
Few questions brother if you get a chance to follow up to everyone How many games have you been able to play so far? Theoretical: Do you see a legitimate rule set coming out for crossover play between SP and MCP? Theoretical: Would playing a smaller game of Squad vs Squad work for a faster pick up game over a lunch break? Keep up the good work
Always appreciate your enthusiasm in your videos. Sadly with my investment into Legion, both time and dollars, I simply can’t justify another line in a different scale. I suspect I would probably enjoy the game play quite a bit…not getting tabled would be nice, which happens to me more than I’d like with Legion. I’m very envious of some of the sculpts I’ve seen previewed for Shatterpoint as well, but will content myself with official Legion stuff and some 3D printed figures to fill in the gap. Looking forward to more of your videos though; I’ll enjoy the game vicariously through your coverage.
So unsure about this one. I want it because it's a game in one box. If that's all I buy, I will always get the use from it. BUUUT it also looks very similar to MCP which I don't like because of the deceptively high cost. Might just stick to getting Arena Rex and come back to Shatter point in a handful of months
Was hoping for a more casual (used loosely) experience when we already have a overwhelmingly customizable 40k sprue bonanza that is Legion. I think not only FFG, but even indie developers both on and off Kickstarter have been shown what can be done with (ready to play) single mold miniatures. Also disappointed it's another mission oriented game, as they were the first thing I ditched in Armada, and allowing then penalizing "dream builds" by giving canon builds advantages are a big no. What happened to getting two armies on the table and letting them go at it? Overall this is still a big, "who was this for?" game for me as it seems targeted at Legion players...
I would also very much like a good old fashioned "Deathmatch" game for Star Wars. I also agree with you that it would be nice to have a game that people can play "Right out of the box".
Good review, but I dont think Im going to buy into this. Partly because I hate that they added so much terrain to it. I would rather not have any at all because it drives up the cost, adds more plastic to be sitting around unassembled and unused (my flgs will have plenty I could use for it), and makes the box even bigger and harder to store.
The LoS and cover rules are the 2 weak spots for sure. Didn’t know about the cover rule change, and I don’t think they made it better… confused by their thinking
The thought behind the Hunker Token requirement, was that you had to be "actively" trying to take cover with the terrain as opposed to simply standing near it.
@@Crabbok yeah sure I get that but you already had to be within 1 inch of the cover as opposed to in Legion where you can get cover more out of luck. I’m not against the change, but IMO it just doesn’t address the actual weirdness that you mentioned…it’ll just happen less often I think we will likely house rule the LoS and cover rules for our games here (and be confused if we do competitive play 😂)
Great review. But to be honest, I really don't see myself trying to make room for this in my tight budget. For a number of reasons. And those cover rules are frankly a surprise deal-breaker on top of them. Sure, I can just ignore those rules as written at home, but I could also adapt a different ruleset, I can do anything, so that's not the point. And all they'd need to do is one or two sentences of the most basic line of sight rule imagineable. I am tempted by the Mace Windu pack, though...
Too expensive, minis are too big to be used in other games, and from a company with a bad track record at managing Star Wars games. Hard pass from me. Thanks for the review.
@@theonlyone9744 I know they messed up a lot of stuff with Legion. Incorrect components, entire print runs missing key cards, poorly worded text, a ton of reprinted cards with the wrong dice pools and abilities on them, just very sloppy quality assurance all around. They turned X-Wing into a completely different game with completely different list-building rules that severely restricts listbuilding diversity.
@@Tvboy777 Yeah I’m completely new to war games/skirmishes in general. I had been eyeing legion core sets for a while now because I love Star Wars. However the complicated rules sets and prices added onto the prices of terrain I’d have to get plus expansions I think was what was stopping me from investing. With this although I agree it has a high price point. Having both armies full plus terrain which probably is the reason for the higher cost I think makes it a safer entry way game into skirmishers for me. But everyone is different so someone who may be a legion investors or x wing as you say may not want to invest into a whole another IP’s worth of content.
Open list building and the speed of the game are the main reasons I won't be purchasing this Star Wars game. That and the fact that very little changes model count wise during the course of the game as most models need to be killed 2 or even 3 times before they are removed. Based off the battle reports I've seen thus far, To me it seems as nothing was accomplished, you barely get to play with your pretty models then the game is suddenly over just as it gets interesting.

Got the reference right away! It's nice! :)
It is... acceptable.
So that’s why you look like a borderlands character
Nifty. Keep up the good work.

A cover token should look like a small shipping crate and then place it in front of a character to activate and then it would make some sense. Maybe

Just takes practice and patience. My first minis are night and day compared to my minis now 😂.
@@ButchersNailsEnjoyer Makes sense! I just wanna get these ones right. Maybe Imperial Assault was the practice I needed 😉

Thanks for the review. The video had an odd cell shaded look to it... But anyway, congrats to Jamie for winning the Core set.
Yeah since the game is sort of in a comic book style, I tried to apply a more comic-book looking filter to my video lol!
My core box just arrived this minute so looking forward to comparing this to the other star wars games
Maybe I missed it, but my biggest question I didn’t hear you answer dealt with theme: does it feel like Star Wars??

These models look great and I would love to try it out! I am worried about hearing the thin sabers being delicate
I think as long as you are careful with them you'll be ok!
pinning would be a good idea to create stronger connection. Or be like me and replace the saber part with metal rod and holo plastic rod slid over it

The best review of the game so far, wish it had more views.
Super excited to dive in!
Thanks for the honest review. I haven’t been able to play the game yet and not sure when I will, maybe a demo at GenCon later this year perhaps?
Still waiting for my core box set but I am excited to play it
the filter got me, i thought something was broken and posted on discord about it :D
Still waiting on mine, glad to hear your thoughts though.
I can't wait to get this box so I can paint the models.

Can’t wait to try this one out!!
Sounds fun but will always wish FFG/Asmodee still produced Imperial Assault
I don't want Shatterpoint. I don't want Legion. I don't want X-Wing. I want Armada! Give us Armada back.... 😭😭😭😭
I just want a poster of the box art
Excited to dive into shatterpoint!
I'm excited. I like the shorter game times!
Can shatter point be incorporated with Legion ?
Lol really like the filter, really thematic
no chapter marks?
Curious to see if the release of things like mace windu will convince amg to put him in legion

Wait is the shatterpoint giveaway still going on?

The cost is a big issue for me to consider. 170 or more with taxes. Is not beginners friendly.
