I had the pleasure of stopping at the market back in February. I had to navigate a flooded river from Owensboro but it was worth the aggravation. Had lunch , met some neat people, and went on my way.

When I saw the rock come off the forks on that fresh asphalt, I covered my eyes and thought "Yep, that's exactly what would have happened if I'd been doing it". Great looking job and I hope you win the lottery so you can pave the rest, buy the Cap'n the Minotaur, and bring on the little guy and Jerry full time. Have a great holiday fellas.

I was a tar boy back in the early 1976 and done raking and shovel throwing from the back of the machine, it was damb hard work but the machines these days just make it so much easier, thanks Mike and Matt for another entertaining video, from Scotland have a merry Christmas and a very merry Hogmanay, to everyone hear and your families'.

I do miss working at the paving company! I was a mechanic during winter months, fixing and maintaining the equipment for summer and when summer came I was part of the paving crew. Was the best job I've ever had and loved the variation between mechanic's work and asphalt work.

As a guy who lays a million tons of asphalt a year the millings make a great base I think you will be happy. You picked the right guys watching them work they do a nice job. Remember the bigger the project the cheaper the cost per ton of asphalt

    Driveway looks nice. 👌
Did some asphalt driving back in the early 80s with a 72 twin stick Mack. The biggest challenge is staying against the rollers without locking up the wheels on air brakes. Those brakes can be pretty touchy depending on how far you are haulin.

    • @gullreefclub
      @gullreefclub 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The joys of driving a 20 speed I dove an an old Awefulcar, Brockway, and Mack all with 20 speeds and the Mack and Brockway had Armstrong steering which when rolling above 10 mph wasn’t hateful but could be a real workout if loaded heavy and in a tight area.
All that said I understand now you have to have an manual transmission endorsement to drive a Dump truck or Road tractor with three pedals and a handshaker. What is the world coming to. Back when I was still driving there were about a dozen of us that drove trucks with twin-sticks and if any of us left the quarry together it was a contest who could start out in the basement and walk the boxes to the penthouse with out missing, skipping or grinding a gear and whoever screwed up had to buy a round on Saturday when we spent the afternoon washing and working on our junk

Kudos to the guys at C&R Construction for a great job, it does look fantastic! I'm happy for you guys & the Derby Market & I'm sure your customers will appreciate it too.
You know, I'm 65 yrs old & have been disabled for 7 yrs now. Five of the last jobs I had (total of 20yrs), part of my job involved driving a forklift, from small ones driving in-plant to large yard lifts. Of the many pieces of equipment y'all operate, that's the only one I have any experience running, so when I watch you running one, it makes me miss working all the more. That being said, it doesn't prevent me from enjoying your videos one bit, & I'm looking forward to the next one!

Good job on going with 3 inches, most lots paving companies only put down 2 inches. 2 inches works but it doesn't last nearly as many years. Most paving companies that do lots and driveways cut a lot of corners to cut their costs because the profit margins are so tight with paving, it's great that you found a good company. You can tell a lot about a company just from the bidding process.

Now you will have to sealcoat it after a year or 2 to keep it black. All the sealcoat does is keeps the water from getting into the pores and popping the rocks out of the asphalt. The ends might start looking bad because of the lose material at the ends. The main entrance should be concreate with all the big equipment you haul, big equipment and semis tear up asphalt. I've done asphalt work and sealcoat since 2006 here in Indiana. Keep up the video's!

The place looks so much better. That's a neat process. I bet that made the store smell really badly for a few hours. Now you need to pave the go cart track. I'd like to make two paved go kart tracks. One would be a 1/4 mile copy of Talladega, and the other a 1/4 mile copy of the road course at Charlotte. Talk about fun.

Old trick I leaned off a retired crane operator when setting heavy objects and needing to retrieve straps/forks, pile some ice up and set the heavy object on the ice. It gives you some wiggle room to work with then you just wait for the ice to melt and it closes the gap.

Wichita, my home town used to have two re-paver machines that would in one pass grind off the upper layer of asphalt, heat it, add oil to it and then reapply it to the surface. It also had to add small amounts of additional asphalt to make up for the wear but the machines were incredibly efficient. Sadly parts for those machines eventually became unavailable and they had to be retired. Also it seems nobody ever produced any more so now they repave streets less frequently and just as inefficiently as everyone else.

Stopped by back in early October. Seeing the how well the millings worked on camera is one thing, but it's nothing compared to seeing it in person. I was impressed with how solid it was. It certainly did its job, but the asphalt is a huge upgrade.
My question is what the reason was to choose asphalt over concrete, especially with all the HEAVY equipment you haul through the yard.
The reason I ask is when I was in the Air Force, I worked for a maintenance shop for the Warfare Training Center at McGuire AFB/Fort Dix/Lakurst Naval Air Station joint base. The building was quite new, but the lot was gravel. We were working getting the lot paved, but the Civil Engineers needed to know what kind of equipment me had and the weights. Based on the weight of our heaviest vehicle, which was an M-Series M936A2 5ton Wrecker. The asphalt would not be adequate for the lot, so they had to go with concrete.

@@DirtPerfect Well, it is an old quarry, so the ground is quite solid. It makes sense that the asphalt would hold up quite well. Probably wouldn't be the best choice if the ground was a softer material. Location and soil makeup clearly worked out in your favor.
