    I remember being 7 or so and I played inline hockey every Tuesday and Friday and the roller Rink had a SFII cabinet. For whatever reason I was entranced by Chun-Li's sprite and art. Played her first and was my first waifu before I even knew what one was.

    I've always been terrible at fighting games but I still enjoy them just playing against the computer. I remember the day care I went to had a SF2 arcade machine, because it was in a "youth center" type place that older kids went to after day care was over.

    The Blue Marlin OST is one of my favorites. The Shark Theme is so good.

    That commercial sure liked to say "Street Fighter II" and "Super Nintendo"...

    Blanka was most definitely the first character I ever chose. This would have been some time after watching other people play the game at corner stores (being a kid with no money), and just being absolutely fascinated with the character. Though, I did find every single character pretty much enthralling. What a time that was.

    You forgot to mention that the Black Bass series had 2 bad Nintendo DS games. "Super Black Bass Fishing" in 2005 and "Professional Fisherman's Tour: Northern Hemisphere" in 2007! :D

    I preferred the Super Black Bass edition and rented it a couple times and it was one of the few games I was able to play with my dad as he loved fishing.

    Allowance -> change machine -> Street Fighter II. I was so excited for this release. Rode my bike to Toys R Us (which was between my place and the mall where the arcade was) and was there when it opened. They had that wall of box art with voucher slips; the actual games were in a vault like it was a weapons check in Bartertown. So excited.
    The box and manual were awesome! An official move list, great art, and holy s#!) they spell out what they're saying! Tatsumakisenpuukyaku! Turned it on and it looks and sounds just as good as I could hope.
    Played through with Blanka first, then Chun Li. Everything was great for a couple weeks...then I found out about the same-character code! Was that the first prevalent game with "new skins"? All I know is blue Blanka blew my mind.
    That BGM / SFX player was cool, too. Those SFX started showing up everywhere as samples in songs.

    Never was I more happy to be a gamer that loves all gaming than I was in 1992. This is when Sega really dropped the ball and failed to secure Street Fighter II: The World Warriors for their 16-bit powerhouse. Thankfully, they were not completely empty handed as they released the best beat em' up that has ever released... Streets of Rage II.
    Addendum- I was happy because I not only owned the Sega Genesis but I had an Snes as well. I had them both and all was right with the world.

    Chun-Li was my first character I played as, because my dad always liked using her as well. So I would see how cool she looked and how badass she was in action, and would gravitate towards her for that. Later on I got more into using Sakura in the different updated versions and series, and Cammy as well

    Yes, the first time I played SFII used Dhalsim, for the same reason that Jared, I thought it would be easy to win with stretching limbs.

    Street Fighter II, the only sequel to have its own series, in the words of AVGN! My favorite to this day is Zangief.

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not only did Street Fighter 2 have its own series, but the first game was so elusive that it felt like the series name simply was Street Fighter 2, and there never was an original Street Fighter.

    • @AtlasBlizzard
      @AtlasBlizzard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gurvmlk If I may reference AVGN again, it's a wonder they called it Street Fighter II and not just Street Fighter, retconning the original.

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AtlasBlizzard If they hadn't called it Street Fighter 2, then the first game definitely would've disappeared into the void. A game that nobody ever knew, and those who had played it questioning whether the game had been real, or just their imagination. Rather than being the topic of playground discussions wondering where this mysterious first entry was, as it had been.

    • @bostonrailfan2427
      @bostonrailfan2427 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gurvmlkit was so drastically different and on a console that wasn’t too big in the US that it got forgotten since II was so good and so genre-defining

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bostonrailfan2427 Which really, is for the best. I still remember the day when I finally got a chance to see, and play Street Fighter for the very first time thanks to one of the Capcom compilations on the PS2 (I forget which of the two had it). It took maybe half of the first round to realize that I hadn't been missing out on anything my whole life. Although no less fulfilling did it feel to finally put that mystery behind me.

  • @gurvmlk
    @gurvmlk ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I also liked Dhalsim's stretchy arms back in the day, because I couldn't really grasp how they could backfire, nor that it was balanced out with his slow speed. Probably because everybody I would play the game against were also young kids who shared that ineptitude, so Dhalsim actually worked as a super cheap character.

    It’s interesting to watch the collectors corner segments from these episodes last year and see what’s changed. Knight’s Quest is still pricy, but has overall PLUMMETED in value since this time last year, especially loose.

    Street Fighter 2: The World Warriors was such a classic game. Yeah Super Turbo (and the other variations) would eventually dethrone it but TWW was and always will be the classic.

    If there is one thing I DON'T miss from the 90s, is those super crappy handheld games that tried to convince you to buy them by getting the license of actual good games like Sonic and Street Fighter 2. Even the gas store tetris clone was more fun that those Game & Watch badly done wannabes.
