Hey guys, about time to give you my thoughts about grinding, and how best to go about that in the long term. I hope they will help you out, and make your War Thunder experience that much more rewarding and challenging! It's all about you! Enjoy, and do like, comment and subscribe! Have a great Easter!
Great video. I tried to express this kind of idea in my video on grinding, but I don't know how successful I was. This nails it, from the mouth of a pilot of unquestionable skill and experience :)
Wisely said. This video actually adresses one of the biggest issues in the game. Tree progress and obtaining a "good-statistically" aircraft that you actually have next to no idea how to fly vs progressing your personall skills, learning, becoming better and most importantly having FUN. Thanks Jengar for bringing this up/reminding us all. Its sad how many new players get furstrated because they are approaching the whole "grind" issue from a perspective that in the end ruins their skill and fun.
Elias Lens true that but what I despise is when new players in b17s and u kill em in ur k4 with a 30mm cannon, complains and calls u no skill and says ur op and send l2p nonsense. I usually laugh cause either ik they are new or they just play bombers alot and don't know what a fighter can do. Now that I think.of it I'mma use my fw190 a8 to hunt bombers :)
Godxilxhero the game can feel extremely unfair to newer players, not to say it actually is. I usually try to cut them some slack; I have much more issue with experienced players who have no excuse.
So much truth and wisdom in Jengar's words. I have often found myself guilty of some of the things you have talked about. (Not being toxic or pulling dubious tactics, but just getting burned out because of not focusing on the short term/long term of improving as a pilot). I hope to take what you have said to heart and really improve myself. Thank-you for saying these things in a way that drove it home to me. Just discovered your channel today, and most DEFINITELY subbing!
Wise words indeed. The other problem with grinding using a premium plane or single plane with Talisman, is that you end up with a daunting tech tree of stock planes and an even BIGGER grind spading stock planes. It is actually nicer to spade as you go and enjoy: 1) The 130% bonus on researching the following plane. 2) Learning to fly all sorts of planes as you go. This way the tech tree unlocks with barely a thought.
So true.. It is like the life itself.. When your progress is painfull and you honestly try your very best, there is no exception, you can´t fail. Well said man.
i enjoyed that as you described the short-term thinking aspect of grinding, you were being mobbed by the enemy, eventually getting shot down. good video direction... kudos!
Thank you for showing them reality. Couldn't have said it better myself. Its not about how many vehicles you unlock, but how good you are with what you've got. That is the best advice in a while. Perhaps the title of this video should have been "GET GOOD". lol
That apply to life as well, short term success versus long term success, improving yourself versus making more money now, etc. Who thought I would be learning about life in a War Thunder video? Thanks man.
Couldn't agree more. I myself have played for 4 years and played all modes. I once went over 700 days in a row without missing a single day. The unlocks come while having fun. I come to find that if I'm having fun I'll forget about which plane or tank I'm wanting at the time. Have fun people!!
Excellent video Mr. Jengar, very motivational! I personally play on a free account, very VERY rarely do I spend money on the game. I find that simply playing the game in a manner where I enjoy it let's me progress well enough, and I'm never short of SL. I've been in this game since 2013, and still play it all the time. I'm currently on a streak of over 130 consecutive days logged in!
Of all the videos I have seen about war thunder, without a doubt this video was the most impactful in my mentality as played, thank you jangar for transmitting this idea.
Your first 35 seconds sums up most peoples idea of life. Give it to me now! I don't want to work for it, I don't want to earn it, I don't want the skills associated with learning it, the world owes me. We live in a world of instant gratification.
No joke. I get so irritated grinding but I was playing my t 34-57 today and I normally get arround 9-12 kills on a match every game and I didn't realize that today I earned over 50 thousand rp towards my T-44-100 I haven't had this much fun in months honestly. When I was working my ass off during the Christmas quests for the ersatz m10 I hated and dreaded getting on daily but I wanted it so I did. Recently I have been grinding for the tiger that's coming but it's such a pain and not fun I just put up WT and played far cry 5 because I was furious. My tip to y'all is don't focus only on the objective you want wether it's a vehicle or rare event or challenge. Just be yourself and have fun. I love my T-34-57 and it's so fun clicking and watching my shell cut through a tank like butter. Just have fun.
Also, in a way I sometimes encourage that someone just try to grind up to jets without premium if they have the time, and then fly planes of all sorts and from all tiers for a while. That way, you are encouraged to learn proper flying in order to get more kills and grind faster, and you will learn a lot in addition to getting to your end goal. When I started the game, I wanted the Meteor F3 super badly, so I learned all sorts of tactics such as boom and zoom and energy fighting to give me a leg up on the opposition and speed up the non premium grind. When I got to the Meteor, I realized that I what I enjoyed the most wasn't getting the plane itself; what I enjoyed the most was being a step above the average War Thunder player who just dives into a furball and turns their brain off to try and get kills. And in the end, just like you said, I enjoyed the game even more because of that.
Wel done Brian, this is the way to do it, although im far from opposed to spend money on these types of games, als long as your own progression is central!
Brilliant advice as usual. Haven't played for months because I suddenly felt the competition was too high when I reached br 3ish. War Thunder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm getting treatment though, I'm seeing an anger encouragement manager, and shall return. Glad to say I never became toxic. Custom battles are fun for a while, but it's sad messing about in the shadow of such a brilliant game.
Exactly Jengar I got my mind set always on "the next plane, the next plane" in the british teir, Then got fed up with it, gave up, i then went back and started with the germans, and had so much fun in the bi planes, etc was great and just decided to keep flying them, Even though i had some br 5-6 planes, i was still in some BR 1-2 level for the sheer fun
Thank you very much for this video jengar, I have learned a lot, I won't focus on getting planes but on myself, and how I can improve.I want to thank you once more man, you're the best
I play for the challenge of outsmaneuver and outsmarting other players, getting new vehicles (or camo) happen to be a secondary goal for me. I once read a quote from somewhere I can't remember the source, "A game doesn't entertain you, you find entertainment from the game yourself".
I learned the lesson you’re trying to teach in this vid the hard way with the german planes boss. I got rather good at the game (good enough to join your squadron anyway) but in my haste to get to things like the Ta-152 and the jets I failed to learn the lessons that the mid tier fighters teach. This applies to other trees as well and once I got to those high br planes I got a hard reality check being forced to play the lower tiers more actually paying attention to improving myself skill and tactics wise. Then that led to me getting burned out and my current hiatus
The whole thing about the different game modes is good advice. I played SB and it feels like an entirely different game. Not to mention the long matches and the prevalence of bots allow for some easy grinding if you get more enemies than you die :) I personally use the T.Flight HOTAS 4 which is like $70, but there are some guides on the forum on how to play SB with just mouse and keyboard. Give it a try :)
Could not agree with you more. Playing the game for fun and trying to make the best of the vehicles is the best way to learn and enjoy the game. More of these type of videos.
Hey i just found your channel and i'm watching the older videos and in this particular one i find myself because i was focused to get jets in Germany tree and i never learned to play... You do a great job and i think this channel is superior to almost anyone else that i watched.
Great video, thanks for making this. One big thing for me was to say bollocks to war bonds. The missions make you do very specific things that will more often than not be nonsensical in a given battle. I've had so much more success as a pilot ever since I stopped paying attention to the daily tasks.
I play everyday, I have for 4 years, I'm always trying to improve, I always have a challenge now it's migs aiming I stink can't get my aim, I fly for me ,I have fun , I watch some of these guys on TH-cam and hear them complaining about this or that, I try to do the best I can.... when I first started in realistic I got shot down all the time, but I learned and finally got better it's a good game. I love it. Don't get disgusted. Learn while grinding. All nations.
Big facts I personally learned this through german tanks by playing tiger 2 and i stuck to my knowledge of the tank and engage enemys more conservatively and rely on range and cover instead of my armor since i play against heat fs shells.
I have learned -- oh! so slowly! -- that you can never get to the bases before the enemy fighters unless it's cloudy all the way or it's a huge map like Normandy. I've also learned that fighters who want to escort you are in fact few and far between even when asking for them and circling back, though I have recently been in a few matches where the team spirit is in play and we do in fact all defend the bomber(s). So I take the indirect approach. Climb -- oh! so slowly! -- and take the other three sides of the square instead of the direct route. Even then, chances are someone is still at altitude over the bases.
I agree. I played the game years ago, in the patch 1.3 to 1.4 days and I dare say I was not bad when it came to maneuvering and defensive flying, reversals, doing energy traps, making enemies overshoot and all that stuff. Yet, my stats sucked hard. That had two main reasons: A: I was a bad shot and often could not turn my successful maneuvering into kills. B: I made the mistake to always grind. I just couldn't stand the thought of wasting component research points. When I flew a fully spaded plane and did well in it, I wasn't happy, but I was angry over not having used that good match to unlock some stuff on one of the stock planes. I know that doesn't fully make sense, but that is just how I felt. So I always moved on to the next horrible stock grind after finishing the previous one, instead of actually enjoying those fully spaded planes. That is something that separated me from the good players. They usually fly a plane until they know it like the back of their hand and have a great kill ratio in it, before moving on to the next one. I am currently slowly getting back into the game again and this time I will do it like that too. Of course, the way that game is set up, with the constant buffs and nerfs and all the new stuff being thrown at the wall only to be nerfed shortly after when it turns out to be too good, creates a strong temptation to make my old mistake of always grinding. You want to have those "flavor of the month" planes and profit from their OP-ness like everybody else, before they nerf them to shit.
you want to fly what you feel like ideally. That way you'll mostly have fun, if its not fun anymore, dont persist, fly something else you feel like. maximize your fun factor.
Yeah. It is just that the nature of this kind of game makes it easy to forget that it is supposed to be fun, hehe. I'm not sure how much the same thing applied to War Thunder, since I haven't played it in years, but I always say that World Of Tanks is clearly a pyramid scheme. You start out as a victim and you grind and spend money in the hopes of becoming one of the victimizers. The bad balancing and many other flaws are deliberately baked into the game because they make people spend money on premium accounts and vehicles, in an attempt to make the game less shitty.
Sage advice. Of course we like to think: "if I just had a better plane..." The realization that our skills are the problem doesn't come easy. Personally, I raced to get a Bf-109, an FW-190, and that D5 Ju-87 :). Well I did that in fairly short order but I wasn't quite the master of the sky I thought I would be, in fact, I sucked. However I did notice that when flying other nations' planes I was holding my own against the competition; at least I was getting kills and sometimes surviving the entire game with one plane. Now I knew it wasn't the fault of my German planes as I could see them being very successful in competition. So the problem was the my skill and the level of competition. With my German planes I was flying in a much higher BR and much of the competition at that level was higher skilled, while flying in lower BR battles was a more level playing field for my experience. And the answer was, as pointed out in this video, I just ground the Luftwaffe too fast for my own good ;) Now I grind with a more sane progression and spade the plane I have before moving up and of course I make frequent use of helpful videos like Jengar's. Having a lot more fun...
Heh. Grinding the Italian tree is fun - early planes are easy to fly, and it takes a couple of afternoons of good games to unlock the MC202EC, which is absolutely amazing. Then, you can learn how to properly energy fight against human players while you wait to unlock the 205 and G55.
Rushed all german plane tree with He-219, have all the planes, now I wanna spade all of them. The problem with the rushing is that you get good only in the plane you are rushing in... Even tho i was always getting at least one or 2 kills in the start of the game, my winrate is positive with that plane. As you said, you do get alot of rp but it doesn't make you a greater pilot in any way, those who rush to get their jets usually endup by quitting war thunder, because they think top tier is the easiest tier...I agree 100% with you on this topic. Hope you have a fantastic day!
Hi Jengar, I totally agree with you with regards to the development of a pilot's skill and being unprepared and basically untrained to fly the plane they're grinding for. There is however another route you don't consider, being such a good pilot yourself. I don't play to grind; I play to stat-pad. I want to improve my stats in a particular plane, and to keep them good. I have favoured and favourite planes. Favourites are obvious, but favoured planes are those I hold a curious and inexplicable affection for despite them being crap in game -- or perhaps its me being crap in them -- such as the Wellington and Fw200 bombers. There still others I want to do well in but am similarly crap in, such as the Fw 190s and the Mustang Dash-20. I also want to do well and actually enjoy flying these planes. As long as I make a fair go of it I am okay taking a defeat, but I totally get triggered by being executed by an unseen B&Zer in 5 seconds of battle time after 5-10 mins spent getting to the battlezone. Similarly, climbing to altitude and finding a 109 or Yak waiting above for me with a head-on which i cannot avoid and again am instakilled. Further, these scenarios above add to the untrained nature of a pilot. When you know enough to get to the battle zone but not enough to defend yourself from the first pass and get instakilled, earning less than 100 points of score and having spent 10 minutes doing it, you don't actually learn anything and get frustrated as all hell. I've now improved to the point where I am expecting to get a kill every game I am in with planes I am comfortable in, and 2 for planes i am genuinely confident in; getting 2 is a very good mood and 3 kills is cause for celebration and sharing. But in planes I have literally not mastered, going 10-20 matches without a single kill is expected and anticipated. This all leads to my problems of frustrated rage-quitting (the game for the night, not a particular match), and the incredibly slow accumulation of Silver Lions and Research Points to upgrade the plane from stock. In that way, this is a massive grind that only "gitting gud' will cure.
you have to analyse each match why you died. If it is, like you said, killed by an unseen opponent, it means your situational awareness is sub par, an you then need to focus on improving that first. spend a week doing nothing but looking around while climbing. Then after that week check how often you still die by unseen opponents. If thats close to zero move on to the next thing. you cant focus on defensive flying if you die a lot by unseen planes. defensive flying call only start when situational awareness is up to a good lvl.
Good advice, thanks. I do look around a lot more than I used to, that's for sure. I am constantly scanning the sky and very much attempting to stay close to allies (within 3km) for mutual support at the start of a match, and in selecting a more isolated opponent to attack. I am also pretty good at finding the unmarked dots of planes ahead of me in the initial confrontation. I was more relating these from a historical point of view that I've managed to get through yet many other players probably still struggle with. This is probably better dealt with on the Defensive flying video, but since I had your attention... It's when I'm also occupied at a lower level that this unseen killer is still a major issue. I keep flicking my eyes to the radar and this has saved my plane on numerous occasions as I get to sidestep a plummeting enemy and basically break off my attack to save myself. But what do you do when actively chasing a diving twisting enemy and suddenly you're dead from a stealth ammo burst from a plane your Awareness skill never picked up on and the plane only shows on radar after he's killed you? Also, how do you NOT accept a head-on from those Yaks and 109 Fs & Gs? I try to roll and break left or occasionally right around the 1km distance mark, getting my own shot in or not as I think I can get away with or if I think I'll die anyway and trying to get any hits at all. But they can usually track me with ease and get me anyway. Should I not attack at all and break earlier? If so, how early? The centreline guns can effectively shoot out to 2km in a head-on. The only plane I can ever manage a head-on dodge is in a Spitfire. It's not the only plane in the game I get into head-ons with. These two are my biggest current problems. Perhaps you could do a tutorial on these subjects?
Agreed, after 10 000 hours for me the best game to play within Warthunder is to try master the different levels of skill so Air RB and Tank RB and then good CAS & fighter support in tank RB. I did my time in arcade and still go there with new players I try to get into the game. Whenever I was playing a certain BR aircraft for a nation I was focusing on. I made sure to also fly out opposing nations to get a better idea of the capabilities of the enemy I would encounter. Kinda means I grind out all nations at the same time and makes it slower to get high tier vehicles but on the plus side I never run out of lions.
I agree that you should take your time to learn each vehicle and enjoy the game so that you don’t get burned out. Although I do think that sometimes there are good reasons to grind like a maniac with your best reward earning vehicle. For example: I am using my b-29 with a talisman to grind for the f3d for squadron battles like a maniac before it hits 8.0 haha. And it’s important because my squadron relies on me to be there regularly as CAS. But otherwise you are completely correct and I feel like there are many people who leave this game because they finally get the vehicle they wanted and feel no drive to go on anymore.
Hey Jengar! Yes, family is ok. Believe it or not , we have recently gotten our second child already :-) This time it's a boy, so we have the complete set now... Hope everything is ok with your family, too. Your son must be a big boy already.
Jengar yeah, i like to try and engage as late as i can in hoping to try and catch them by suprise.... even tho sometimes The bad thing is some of my spitfire friends and the rest of my team dying in the furballs and i end up by myself sometimes with 2 or more hitlerbolts or stalinbolts up high, hehehe😜🙃🤣. Also good luck with your future projects on your channel bud. 👍 It reallyyy helps the lot of us uneducated fellows. 😉
People say Premium planes arn't pay to win. -___- Those planes get 2x RP and .5x SL's for buying aircraft. In higher tiers if you're not netting atleast 2 kills a match without premium, you will literally go negative in silver lions from ammo costs and plane repairs. Which means you cant even buy the new plane you just spent 20 hours grinding.
Just a couple days ago, I started to forget about grinding planes, and started to focus on playing realistics, and trying to actually become better because if I unlock a new plane, I wont be able to fly it.
I complain about the grind because I like too many things that go boom and WT is not my full time occupation (though i wish it were). Its still a massive time sink and even jengar pointed out he's buying planes with GE for his review because real life responsibilities are more important, time is short and the grind is real. Overall though a good message to new pilots. Dont worry things will get better as you get better.
U're great man... now I love my Bf (G-6 is my favorite), my Fw, making so much silver, and I dont realized that I have so much fun that only 2 days I got my Me 163... I think I got better from 3 months ago, thanks for ur vid, ur planes review keep my motivation to play planes. Keep up the good work mate !
Great advice. Have you ever considered a tutorial video on how you dogfight while looking backwards so you are watching your enemy ? I have played WT for a long time and still have not mastered that skill. Please consider it !!
Ty sir great advice.wish i saw this earlier.i took along look at myself and right now i am good at planes up to about br4.higher i get roasted so am working on my crews and fun factor.not on getting that jet.plus i am odd,i like bombers alot
It is about the journey, not the destination. Don't despair the "grind", appreciate how many hours of game-play you have to look forward to before running out of goals. I have never found another game with the potential to exclusively hold my interest for years at a time, and I am not even close to running out of options in this game. Play it slow, learn to play, get good, then advance to higher tiers. Grinding for a top tier plane that you haven't learned to fly along the way just leads to disappointment and frustration.
I compeletely agree with all of the tips about grinding the trees. I got to 5.7 Germany aircraft quite quickly, but i never quite knew how to really fly the planes, so i sucked quite a bit and thought they were bad. Luckily i didnt rant or post anything about my experiences cuz atleast at that point i knew i was bad. Ive actually explored the other tech trees like Russia and France and had a go at their planes and i ultimately learned from experience how to properly play certain vehicles. Of course, your videos helped alot when figuring out playstyles of certain vehicles that i had no idea how to play (like the 109 K4). I finally revisited the K4 today after so long and i had a blast with it. Also, is there a fighter that you do recommend for Russia at BR 4.0 and above? I like the Yak 9u so far since it is fast and climbs rather well. However, i dont know if i just havent played it enough or what, but its kind of hard for me to nail the playstyle and ive been getting quite aggrivated, because you know how Russian teams are at the lower tiers.
I commented on another video asking for recommendations. I've decided on the tanks and planes I want to aim for. Tanks: USA - T95, M103, M60. (Plan on buying the Black cat/Cobra King to help get up to tanks before using normal to get to the rest, Maybe a T29) Germany - Maus, Leopard, Jagtiger (plan on buying the Tiger 2 H or RU, possible the mKPz to assist with tanks) USSR - T54, IS3 (plan to use the T-34-100 to help out) GB - Challenger, Conqueror, Conway (plan on buying either the firefly or the strv to help out also) As for planes, I am hoping to go for ones in each line. USA - P51 mustang but otherwise not sure on what line to go for but would also like a premium to help out. Germany - Ho 229, MiG 15 bis, Sabres, maybe the dive bombers. (not sure what premium) USSR: Yaks, Migs, La lines, (but not sure what premium.) GB: Spitfires, Hunter F1, would like a premium for sure, again not sure which one. Japan: would like to fly the Zeros, wouldn't mind a premium to help out. Money isn't really an issue but time is. I'm hoping, with premium tanks/planes as well as boosters and a premium account I will be able to both enjoy the game as i already am doing, as well as experience all the different vehicles within the game. My main goal is to try all the legendary/influential/ well-known machines before moving onto the higher tiers. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance if anybody does help.
I appreciate a response, however, I don't think you read everything. The French line really doesn't interest me and the Italian planes don't either. I am not limiting myself by sticking to one of 2 nations and believe having 5 is more than enough. I think I made it clear on what planes I'm wanting to go towards and was asking what Premium planes would be the best for the money. I'm going to be grinding for both modes and don't want to play nations I don't really care about / see no appeal to.
I can assure you I didn't, I'm having fun now playing but would like to get through them a bit quicker and to the ones I want to play the most. I'm having fun playing at the moment and if I get bored I jump to other nations and game modes. I don't do play bombers because I don't find them fun and I bring all my planes up at similar rates and ranks. I don't J out of games to get into another because I don't like that sort of mindset. Whilst I'm playing I'm chatting with people to improve my skill. I don't want to be playing at low ranks and be a skilled player because I then end up ruining newer players fun. I'm currently in tier 3 with the Brits in the Spitfires and loving it. I just want to get the better machines, same with the tanks. I'm a few tiers in but would like to get up to that high-level gameplay and have those better tanks. I'm really enjoying the game but just want that bit extra out of it. Like I said, luckily, money isn't a problem at the moment and would like to get to the higher ranks with the aid or premium vehicles and machines. I really want to get to all the historic tanks and ones I really want to play. I don't see the point in darting up one line as you will have to do it all again for the others. I've already made my mind up on what I want to work towards, it's just that I want to do that much quicker than normal whilst having fun. Only really get to play on the weekends, granted I don't go out. I'm aiming to get the majority of the main ones I want or the ones that lead up to it so I can be competitive, enjoy the tanks/planes i'm playing and make decent progress.
premium planes, premium time, and boosters definitely help unlocking stuff, also no problem using those to progress faster, as long as your aims are all on getting better as a pilot/tanker ;)
The only time I hate this game is when I have to grind an event to get the event vehicles. I always take a couple of weeks and sometimes a few months off after putting myself through those...
Many thanks for this. It highlights the difference between resume accomplishments (how many jelly beans in my jar) and eulogy accomplishments (how you and others remember how you got those beans). Did you help your team or play for stats of questionable value and J out? And above all else, a reminder that this is an essentially free game, that the monetary cost is very low and the players are free to play as they choose, to pursue personal goals or less reasonable, less meaningful goals set by anonymous others. Again, thanks for posting.
For grinding rn I ground pound a lot while flying really low it's really fun because I try to stay undetected as long as possible because I abuse the spotting mechanic in air rb But if I want to get kills I escort ground pounders while staying high because a lot of ennemies tunnel vision and go low to get those easy kills and this is when I try to get them
I mainly fly the Germans and Americans due to not really knowing how to fly other nations, so whenever I do play any other nation I typically die at the start and dont really get a kill or an assist.
I 100% agree with this in my own perspective however I like spading every plane in order so there's always a plane in front of me so no real grinding for me. However war thunders advertising is nearly all modern era, meaning most likely the vast majority of players are coming for modern tanks and planes, they are then met with a metric ton of grinding to get anything they see in the advertising. When this is the case 'focusing on fun' means jack really.
One the resions grinding mite be difficult is the team your on is full of people that just started with a rank 4-5 premium then your put battles were your out numbered at objectives thier no backup to save you
I agree 100% that this is a game that needs to be about your development as a player. You're likely to learn in a way that suits you, but you have to understand that there are self-destructive behaviors that can hinder your progress substantially. Definitely feel free to take advice from people that have tried something that worked for them, but be aware that you might not learn the same way that they did, and don't lose heart when it doesn't get good results. Just take note of what helped you and what didn't, and expand on that. For example: When I first got the Tiger tank, I had this idea that heavy tanks were meant to charge in and soak up shots. This was when I was still completely new to tanks, so after a couple of botched games in the Tiger, I lost interest in playing it. Fast-forward to this April Fool's day event's animal skin premium grind, I'd looked up information on the Tiger out of curiosity and learned that the best way to maximize its potential is to stay at range and angle the armor while giving advancing teammates fire support, rather than using it in a traditional heavy tank role. I played 70+ games in it and managed to kill ~85 enemy tanks, most of which were killed at at least 1,000m. That is a drastic improvement, having not touched the tanks in a year. Not only did I learn how to appropriately learn how to play a really fun tank, but I also cut my teeth on long-range fighting, something I had previously sworn was completely beyond my ability. I still enjoy brawling, but now I can safely say that I hate open maps like Kursk a lot less than I did before.
One big issue is that Gaijin's current marketing policy pushes players towards this mindless grind. Nowadays there's always some kind of limited time thing going on (Bi-Weekly decals, Warbonds, April fool's event, summer event, winter event, Halloweent event etc.) Players that are collectors don't know when there's next chance to get the items from those so they start to only look the most efficient way to get the rewards from those at the cost of the gameplay.
Warbonds and the decals require a certain amount of kills or achieving a title though. You don't just pour RP into these to get a certain decal or warbond reward.
Left field question but is there a way you could screenshot your controls because I’m so bad I mean Hellen Keller could beat me in a dogfight, this would be appreciated mate! And for your grinding problems 1 get your air assault booster. Or Premium account + Tu4 + tailsman = profit
yeah, i can see that would work. throttle up=left shift, throttle down= left control, w= pitch down, s= pitch up, a= left aileron, d is right aileron, i have a naga mouse: side button nr1=small calibers fire, n2 is left rudder, nr3=right rudder, nr 4=boosters, nr5=bombs, nr6=rockets, left mouse button=fire all guns, right mouse button=hold=zoom in release=zoom out, middle mouse button is select target. R=reload, f=flaps, g=gear, c=camera.
In the end, its just a game. No need to grind ur ass off, get toxic, or spend countless hours playing the same plane over and over again. Ur there to have fun :D
Hi jengar,it was a nice vid, that u mean play more and more with one plane until learn it then jump to another!? For example i play both tanks and airs, and i love yak3,p47,spitfire,fw 190 and...,now i focus to learn fw190 when i finished it ,can i jump to another plane? Thats what u mean in vid?!
Hey guys, about time to give you my thoughts about grinding, and how best to go about that in the long term. I hope they will help you out, and make your War Thunder experience that much more rewarding and challenging! It's all about you! Enjoy, and do like, comment and subscribe! Have a great Easter!
hi jengar, il buy german premium tank. which one u suggest kv-1b or Pz IV ?
Great video. I tried to express this kind of idea in my video on grinding, but I don't know how successful I was. This nails it, from the mouth of a pilot of unquestionable skill and experience :)
I dont play tanks rookie, and thanks Toshio! :)
i have to grind silver lions to pay for my endless Spiftire/Me410 repair bills
Jengar Catch me in air sim and see what happens...I challenge you to get an ace in an operation or EC in air sim in one of your upcoming videos
Jengar out here giving life advice disguised as game knowledge man....love this dude
ty sir!
You're welcome elias! It also drives a lot of players away, that could have still been here had they heard of this approach!
Well saif
Spot on. It's just like a watched clock... Pay too much attention to the grind itself makes it that much more frustrating and feels so much slower
yup! :)
Wise words indeed. The other problem with grinding using a premium plane or single plane with Talisman, is that you end up with a daunting tech tree of stock planes and an even BIGGER grind spading stock planes. It is actually nicer to spade as you go and enjoy:
1) The 130% bonus on researching the following plane.
2) Learning to fly all sorts of planes as you go.
This way the tech tree unlocks with barely a thought.
i agree! :)
So true.. It is like the life itself.. When your progress is painfull and you honestly try your very best, there is no exception, you can´t fail. Well said man.
Thanks mate! and true that!
Spot on! I hope as many as possible of the RB-air community watch this and take it to their heart!
We can hope ;)
The most realistic description of the whys, why nots and hows...
Cheers brother!
ty sir! o7
i enjoyed that as you described the short-term thinking aspect of grinding, you were being mobbed by the enemy, eventually getting shot down. good video direction... kudos!
ty sir! :)
Thank you for showing them reality. Couldn't have said it better myself. Its not about how many vehicles you unlock, but how good you are with what you've got. That is the best advice in a while. Perhaps the title of this video should have been "GET GOOD". lol
haha, absolutely mate ;)
That apply to life as well, short term success versus long term success, improving yourself versus making more money now, etc. Who thought I would be learning about life in a War Thunder video? Thanks man.
Couldn't agree more. I myself have played for 4 years and played all modes. I once went over 700 days in a row without missing a single day. The unlocks come while having fun. I come to find that if I'm having fun I'll forget about which plane or tank I'm wanting at the time. Have fun people!!
absolutely! :)
Thx jengar for the tips
You are welcome sir!
As a Rookie, i could not agree more. Thanks for all the advice!
you're welcome! o7
Thank you sir, and nice one! :)
That was deep. _Zen And The Art Of He 177 Maintenance_
Of all the videos I have seen about war thunder, without a doubt this video was the most impactful in my mentality as played, thank you jangar for transmitting this idea.
One more subscriber.
I'm just enjoying flying all these beautiful warbirds. Thank you for the great experience.
Just have fun with the planes you love and it will never be a grind
absolutely!
But the only planes I love are tier V to tier VI...
Exactly why I still play the p40
At first I thought it was gonna be an April fool's video but I'm glad it wasn't lol
hehe ;) Im glad you were glad with that !
Just have fun.
agreed mate!
9-12 kills?! Good god man!
Wow. This is an astonishingly important video. Thanks Jengar for not only making it, but for making the title exactly what it is!
Thanks Ernie :) and you're welcome!
One of the best game videos I've watched. Pretty much also about life as well.
Ty sir, much appreciated! :)
This is like.. good advice for life generally, too
it is indeed! ;)
Yup
Brilliant advice as usual. Haven't played for months because I suddenly felt the competition was too high when I reached br 3ish. War Thunder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm getting treatment though, I'm seeing an anger encouragement manager, and shall return. Glad to say I never became toxic. Custom battles are fun for a while, but it's sad messing about in the shadow of such a brilliant game.
stop being afraid and face the challenge of self improvement, one skill at a time!
Exactly Jengar
I got my mind set always on "the next plane, the next plane" in the british teir,
Then got fed up with it, gave up, i then went back and started with the germans, and had so much fun in the bi planes, etc was great and just decided to keep flying them,
Even though i had some br 5-6 planes, i was still in some BR 1-2 level for the sheer fun
I love this video, I apply it to tanks as well. I like to just play it in the background sometimes
All your guides, and tips, have helped me become better at the game thank you so much man, love your content keep up this amazing work my friend
Will do, ty sir! :)
Thank you very much for this video jengar, I have learned a lot, I won't focus on getting planes but on myself, and how I can improve.I want to thank you once more man, you're the best
you are welcome mate!
I play for the challenge of outsmaneuver and outsmarting other players, getting new vehicles (or camo) happen to be a secondary goal for me.
I once read a quote from somewhere I can't remember the source, "A game doesn't entertain you, you find entertainment from the game yourself".
yeah definitely, good stuff :)
Then that led to me getting burned out and my current hiatus
yep, its a dangerous trap ;)
The whole thing about the different game modes is good advice. I played SB and it feels like an entirely different game. Not to mention the long matches and the prevalence of bots allow for some easy grinding if you get more enemies than you die :) I personally use the T.Flight HOTAS 4 which is like $70, but there are some guides on the forum on how to play SB with just mouse and keyboard.
Give it a try :)
i'll stick to ab and rb myself ;) thats enough diversity for me!
Could not agree with you more. Playing the game for fun and trying to make the best of the vehicles is the best way to learn and enjoy the game. More of these type of videos.
can do ;)
I agree with everything you stated 100% Well done Jengar you nailed it!
Glad to hear it mate, cheers!
Thanks mate, you are welcome!
Thank you! I never looked at the game like this! It also applies for tanks!
You're welcome mate!
Bit long video but it is straight to the point. Life is a journey, not the destination.
All nations.
fantastic, good stuff man! :)
Big facts I personally learned this through german tanks by playing tiger 2 and i stuck to my knowledge of the tank and engage enemys more conservatively and rely on range and cover instead of my armor since i play against heat fs shells.
Well said Jengar. I hate it when heavy bombers do their suicide dive instead of making two or three circles around the airfield and wait for escort.
or at least trying to survive ;)
indeed
I have learned -- oh! so slowly! -- that you can never get to the bases before the enemy fighters unless it's cloudy all the way or it's a huge map like Normandy.
I've also learned that fighters who want to escort you are in fact few and far between even when asking for them and circling back, though I have recently been in a few matches where the team spirit is in play and we do in fact all defend the bomber(s).
So I take the indirect approach. Climb -- oh! so slowly! -- and take the other three sides of the square instead of the direct route. Even then, chances are someone is still at altitude over the bases.
I agree completely Jengar! Awesome video man
Thanks tyrel! :)
I agree.
I played the game years ago, in the patch 1.3 to 1.4 days and I dare say I was not bad when it came to maneuvering and defensive flying, reversals, doing energy traps, making enemies overshoot and all that stuff. Yet, my stats sucked hard. That had two main reasons:
A: I was a bad shot and often could not turn my successful maneuvering into kills.
I couldn't agree more!
glad to hear ;)
Thank you Hans, same to you mate!
Hi Jengar,
I totally agree with you with regards to the development of a pilot's skill and being unprepared and basically untrained to fly the plane they're grinding for.
Perhaps you could do a tutorial on these subjects?
wise worlds Jengar! :)
thx for yet another nice video :)
Thanks David! and you're welcome!
Kinda means I grind out all nations at the same time and makes it slower to get high tier vehicles but on the plus side I never run out of lions.
yeah good stuff, guerentees longterm fun :)
But otherwise you are completely correct and I feel like there are many people who leave this game because they finally get the vehicle they wanted and feel no drive to go on anymore.
yeah, i have that suspision as well ;)
This should be required viewing for all new players to WT.
Thanks Tony!
In short terms Have fun and enjoy the game
well, thats part of it true ;)
Stoped at 0:26 and liked it already 💯 The best way 2 Grind is not 2 Grind ❤
Very true Jengar, very true...
hey dominik! Long time no see, family doing alright? :)
Hey Jengar!
Yes, family is ok. Believe it or not , we have recently gotten our second child already :-)
This time it's a boy, so we have the complete set now... Hope everything is ok with your family, too. Your son must be a big boy already.
Honestly i got this game just for the Corsair 😉.
I just love the war bird even tho i get killed a lot by LA-5s yak 9s and fw190s. 😁
Sideclimb, get to alt, make sure you're highest and work your way down!
It reallyyy helps the lot of us uneducated fellows.
Disable the automatic repair and play something else so you get more silver lions
Well said Jengarian, couldn't agree with you more.
thank you sir!
Nice mate so good helpfull stuff right here and a lot of thought been puyt in here i think :)
Thanks mate :)
Yeah, since my son got here two years ago, the normal unlocking and lvling has been an impossibility for me.
Good for
Good for you Jengar.
You have your priorities in the right order.
Sorry about the stutter 😩
so I will sum it up as dont grind ur vehicle, grind ur fun ! Sure, it works on every games I think. Worth a Sub !
Thats it in a nutshell!
Great advice, and thank you for it.
you're welcome!
Great advice. Have you ever considered a tutorial video on how you dogfight while looking backwards so you are watching your enemy ? I have played WT for a long time and still have not mastered that skill. Please consider it !!
considering! :)
Ty sir great advice.wish i saw this earlier.i took along look at myself and right now i am good at planes up to about br4.higher i get roasted so am working on my crews and fun factor.not on getting that jet.plus i am odd,i like bombers alot
Thx jengar this will help me and my friends :)
You're welcome Ethan!
100% agree
Thanks for the words
It is about the journey, not the destination.
Don't despair the "grind", appreciate how many hours of game-play you have to look forward to before running out of goals.
I have never found another game with the potential to exclusively hold my interest for years at a time, and I am not even close to running out of options in this game.
Play it slow, learn to play, get good, then advance to higher tiers.
Grinding for a top tier plane that you haven't learned to fly along the way just leads to disappointment and frustration.
Absolutely Jon, thats the right mindset :)
Couldn't have said it better myself.
glad to hear it! :)
I'll give this technique a shot
o7
I commented on another video asking for recommendations.
I've decided on the tanks and planes I want to aim for.
Tanks: USA - T95, M103, M60. (Plan on buying the Black cat/Cobra King to help get up to tanks before using normal to get to the rest, Maybe a T29)
Germany - Maus, Leopard, Jagtiger (plan on buying the Tiger 2 H or RU, possible the mKPz to assist with tanks)
USSR - T54, IS3 (plan to use the T-34-100 to help out)
GB - Challenger, Conqueror, Conway (plan on buying either the firefly or the strv to help out also)
As for planes, I am hoping to go for ones in each line.
USA - P51 mustang but otherwise not sure on what line to go for but would also like a premium to help out.
Germany - Ho 229, MiG 15 bis, Sabres, maybe the dive bombers. (not sure what premium)
USSR: Yaks, Migs, La lines, (but not sure what premium.)
GB: Spitfires, Hunter F1, would like a premium for sure, again not sure which one.
For planes: fly all nations
I appreciate a response, however, I don't think you read everything. The French line really doesn't interest me and the Italian planes don't either. I am not limiting myself by sticking to one of 2 nations and believe having 5 is more than enough. I think I made it clear on what planes I'm wanting to go towards and was asking what Premium planes would be the best for the money.
I'm going to be grinding for both modes and don't want to play nations I don't really care about / see no appeal to.
Will I don't mean to be too harsh, but it seems you completely missed the point of the video.
I love you comeback
i've been back for 6 months or so ;)
Hello Jengar! Great videos and tutorials! Can you tell us more about the camera control and the way you master it? Any video about that?
i will consider it mate ty!
The only time I hate this game is when I have to grind an event to get the event vehicles. I always take a couple of weeks and sometimes a few months off after putting myself through those...
can imagine those are tough mate.
Great video, and I love how it even applies to life. It tells us to take our time in our busy lives. Does this work with ground forces?
i dont play ground forces, but it should.
You are welcome sir! :)
For grinding rn I ground pound a lot while flying really low it's really fun because I try to stay undetected as long as possible because I abuse the spotting mechanic in air rb
But if I want to get kills I escort ground pounders while staying high because a lot of ennemies tunnel vision and go low to get those easy kills and this is when I try to get them
fair enough mate ;)
@@jengar6258 Atm I unlocked a few french jets like the barougan and the vautour it's really fun but when I come back to props it feels really weird
its two different games.
@@jengar6258 totally agree
Love how you mirrored the La-200 thumbnail and moved the camera angle to use it for this video lol.
you got me ;) i just loved that thumbnail and would be good for this vid too!
I mainly fly the Germans and Americans due to not really knowing how to fly other nations, so whenever I do play any other nation I typically die at the start and dont really get a kill or an assist.
practice makes perfect.
One the resions grinding mite be difficult is the team your on is full of people that just started with a rank 4-5 premium then your put battles were your out numbered at objectives thier no backup to save you
im not sure what you mean here.
Please do a spading video, that'd be very helpful. Specially Tier 4 upwards
i'll consider that.
Nutshell: Have fun, improve your skills in your favourite plane instead.
absolutely!
hahah when u want the video to be 10.01 and more xD jking :D
;)
My way to grind is by using the least amount of money.
it helps thats true!
I still enjoy brawling, but now I can safely say that I hate open maps like Kursk a lot less than I did before.
nice one mate, and agreed!
very true
lets hope ppl hear it!
Which would you recommend for modification research: arcade or realistic?
depends a lot on what you're better in.
Jengar Hmmm arcade it is then
One big issue is that Gaijin's current marketing policy pushes players towards this mindless grind.
You don't just pour RP into these to get a certain decal or warbond reward.
they could make those quests and requirements slightly less demanding, thats for sure!
Yep, that's definitely true. I'm not gonna bother playing 500+ matches just to get a P-63 with a weird snake skin on it.
skin looks great though!
Do you hold throttle for WEP?
Thanks alot
you're welcome!
What is your opinion on the current assemble event
could have been slighty less difficult i think ;)
In the end, its just a game. No need to grind ur ass off, get toxic, or spend countless hours playing the same plane over and over again. Ur there to have fun :D
agreed!
I was hoping for tier6 jets this april fools, but sadly we got boring submarines
it looked cool though, and was fun for a good bit.
Jengar, do you have tips on engaging P47s that are above you in a BF-109g-14? Also how would you combat a Griffon Spit or P-51H in a 109G?
i dont have enough space to anser that here, i'll look into a defensive flying tutorial.
TOTAL AGREEMENT
Expected nothing else from you sir, as you are a wise man! Your skin will make an appearance this weekend!
As they say, "You can't make omelettes without breaking eggs!"
What i meant in the vid is that you should jump to another plane when you feel like it. Dont continue to grind in a plane when you're not having fun.
@@jengar6258 oooh i got it completly now, thank u ;)
