Little tip for the boost gauge: add a restriction in line, a slightly crimped brasstube should do it. It smoothes out the pulses. Learned that from a guy who turboed his twin cylinder welder. Thing sounded awesome
This is unreal... those welds are gorgeous, the planning, layout and fabrication is some of the best I've ever seen, and the whole idea of dropping a turbocharged liter-bike engine into a Miata is just perfection. I'm subscribed for more, so keep it coming!
Got a good giggle from me on the gaskets which are hand-made in America. 🤣 One dad to another, congrats and welcome to the club! It's about the hardest thing you'll ever do but it's also about the most rewarding job you'll have in your life.
I noticed that boost gauge bounced like crazy. Just add small 0,5mm restrictor to map hose. And even better if you can add small balancing chamber with that restrictor. Many uses small fuel filters.
@@ReedMakeCarWithout restrictor you cannot get steady map reading. You can test it, just pinch that hose and all smooth out 😄 Might need even smaller than 0,5mm hole. But test that size first. I use normally moped carburetor jets. Just grind them thinner and stuck then in the hose
On itb engines the pressure post throttle body is not stable because off the small volume and relative long time between sucktion cycles. This is because with a cracked throttle, e.g. on idle there is no constant air flow (because only one cylinder is connected to the volume) and the pressure rises again. You should take a line off off each cylinder and connect them to the gauge. It will probably not be perfect but it'll ne a lot better. If you still have trouble with a bouncing gauge, you could add a small volume to the pressure line. (A longer line usually works too)... hope this helps! Glad to see the car run!
if you want just a boost reference you can mount the sensor on the plenum but if you want boost and vacuum then youll need to have a vacuum box with a vacuum line from each runner after the throttle plates. that should help stabalize the reading
Love this build. Some outside the box thinking and your welds are just showing off to make us feel bad lol As to the fluttering boost guage , you could try putting one of those micro fuel filters inline on the boost line
you're living my dream, enjoy it! I'm going to go back and watch the previous eps, and curious to see if you've hooked up the drive train or how you plan to.
Mazda just revelead the new MX5 Spirit R and it's performance is dissapointing. You good sir have made an actuall MX5 Spirit R, a true power house, lightweight car!
Is that boost gauge mechanical or electrical? If mechanical, swap over to an oil filled gauge to slow the oscillations. Worked well to calm the pulsing on a manifold mounted mech gauge on a 3-cylinder 1503cc setup. ps- CONGRATULATIONS! That first fire is always special.
If u are going to build another car u should try using a motus v4 1650cc engine. Its built as a motorcycle engine without a in built motorcycle transmission that can be also used as a car engine , it can be mounted to an automobile transmission. 180 bhp 123ft lbs torque.
Hey Reed, did you notice all the fuel dumping out the bottom through the exhaust? Not sure if thats due to the short headers or if you forgot to upgrade the spark plugs to a higher heat spec for the turbo setup, but it is a bit worrying. Just keep an eye on it, rich fuel condition on a turbo can lead to backfire and popping and with that much fuel in the exhaust it could ignite and catch the car on fire.
Oh yeh he's back
@@guntherwagner2092 all the way back 💪
Currently my favorite build on TH-cam. And congrats on becoming a dad!
Congrats on being a dad, and congrats on having the coolest Miata build I've seen!

This. A little orifice will smooth out the pressure signal.
Sound of the engine is out of this world! 😍

Congrats on the kid Reed! Cant wait to see more of the car when spring comes.

That’s funny because I was just brainstorming this problem and thought of adding a chainsaw fuel filter as like a “sintered filter”

Congrats on the child, winning RC, and continuing on a great build. Happy New Year 👍👊🇺🇸🤘
Glad to see my concerns for the welding heat near the turbo were unfounded, this is so rowdy!
cant wait to see how much it makes! are you gonna weigh the car again with everything added?
@@420catson that’s a good idea. Definitely added a few pounds lol

So cool and amazing fabrication work. Looking forward to seeing it on the dyno.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
This is my favorite build on the internet right now. Please take this think autocrossing, I bet it would be an absolute monster
I am so hype for this build. Hope to do something similar later in life.

Don't forget to bleed the coolant and to top off the oil
we are back!

Slick welds bro 👊🏻
Sounds incredible, insanely clean car as well
Take the cotton off a cotton swab. Pack it in the line near the gauge. Reinstall. Voila. No more bouncing
Bro, no worries dad duty comes first and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of that RC content. I’m a little bit addicted to.

Great video! Your fabrication skills are top notch. As an rc racer I’d love some of that content too. Congratulations on being a dad!
Congrats on being a dad, my friend.🎉
I have heard of people putting a fuel filter or cotton ball in their boost line to stop gauge flutter.
Hope she gets a good tune up, wont be fun if the extra boost isn't waste gated depending on the gear. Burnout monster.
Another great episode!

Congratulations! And thanks for the update on the turbo!

I hope to see your channel grow. Waiting for the next video.
Happy mew year!
Glad to see youre back
Congrats this beautiful project bro!
