Hi - Ian from Partwork Upgrades - I too wasn't happy with some aspects of the light casing quality. All has been fixed. Thank for those that have purchased. they really do look amazing and a fresh set is being sent Wayne.
Is it maybe possible to polish the frostet resin that it look shinier like the original ones? I’m thinking really about to buy your lights, they great, but I like the original shine.
This is a tough one....he did a great job on the lights themselves....no doubt the originals were far too noisy, and moved way too fast. BUT...I like that the blue lense cover is clear on the originals. I almost wonder if it would be possible to take the "guts" out of Ian's lights and mount them in the stock housing somehow?
The problem is he did this with LED's. There's nothing moving in there and the opaque lenses are required to hide that fact. No more often than I'd have the lights on I'd have to stick with the noisy originals.
@@scottysgarage4393 Yea....after doing several of these cars, I've realized I never really "use" the electrics. They pretty much just sit on the shelf. I take pictures of them with the bells and whistles for "Facebook Likes"....but then I never turn them on again.
I think so long as they're not really stuck in there, e.g. embedded in a resin block, then you should be able to. If necessary, to hide the LEDs, you could put some frosted window film inside to make them look a bit more opaque (to maintain original blue lenses, rather than scuff them up for the frosting). You could try the poor man's opaque material and cut up the milk containers :) I've ordered a set, but haven't yet got my lights (only up to issue 27 and the lights come in 35 I think) so won't be able to test the theory for a while yet.
Yes, it is possible! PU lights can be busted open and the guts are high quality and self contained pcb/led. Fits inside current EM light bars. Tricky part is switch, I’m still working on it but splicing on a momentary tactile switch will work I think as it will bypass PU switch. To hide pcb better, I scuffed up inside of lens wit( fine sandpaper to diffuse. This fix will look better on outside with no noise. I’m working with Ian to keep him posted so he may commercialize sometime!
Those new lights are way better for being quieter, however i like the look of the originals better as it's more in keeping with the vehicle design. That said i understand that the new mod uses LEDs so naturally you can't have that clear housing, its a shame that you can't have the best of both. Would there be any way to change the motor/gearing in order to make it less noisy?
Hey Wayne, after watching your review of the Partworks Upgrade Siren Lights I am seriously considering ordering these.I haven't even made it to this stage yet (still on stage 107-110) but if I order these now I should have them in plenty of time until I am ready to put these on the car. But I fully agree those that come with the car really do sound worse than nails on a chalkboard.I am sure they are gonna sell the hell out of these from Modelers wanting quiet lights without all that racket. Thanks a million for posting this as always you are a lifesaver.
Awesome!! The original Eaglemoss (now Fanhome), motors sound exactly like the Polar Lights light/spinning Bussard grills on the 1:350 TOS Enterprise upgrade kit. Glad there is a third party doing a quieter version of the light bars. By the way, I am re-familiarizing myself to your DeLorean build as I recently started the subscription build.
Man, that's a hard no for me. A simple resistor and better gease quiets down the originals and rotators can be modified to rotate the correct way. That just looks horrible, especially since most of the time its not going to be lit up. Sorry but that's me
I've just gotten back into the build myself (Issue 20, Stages 71-74) so I'm quite a ways off from this. I like the looks of the original light bars, but that noise is a complete No Go!! I'll have to decide later what I want to do when this Stage comes up.
The lack of an annoying noise is definitely an improvement - I have quite sensitive hearing so that would drive me round the bend - but I feel like the originals looked a lot nicer, there is kind of a roughness to them that slightly lowers the effect, because the original ones looked great. I suppose with this it comes down to what is more of a concern, the noise or the aesthetic.
I love the silence of the new lights, but I'm not a fan of the way the blue casing looks at all. Hopefully, someone will figure out a way to marry the two so that we can get the benefits of both. Fortunately, I'm only halfway through the build, so I have a bit of time for that to happen. 😄
plusses and minuses... They do look a bit sloppy on the molding and the LEDs are a bit... off. The old ones are a bit (lot) noisy. I think most of the problem is the speed they are spinning at. A resistor would fix the rattling of the gears by slowing it down, or at least tone down the bee hive sound. I am still trying to find out what the last pack I had was before Eaglemoss stopped sending me packages, as my old home burned down and I have no earthly idea of which parts (they were in large tote boxes) I transported here beforehand, and got a couple of packs at the old address before the fire. I may have to design a new setup and print it before I make up my mind. BTW, I think the aquarium display case may also assuage the noise, but, as one would have to remove that every time they turned it on... I will think on this.
I just got my partwork lights this morning. When I first seen them I thought they are not finished. Looks like they are covered in superglue . One side that is a button has come away and is sticking up. Would a gloss varnish help them look a little better?
I'm curious, are the gears from the original build greased at all? I get that some of the noise is from the motors themselves but the gears to turn the lights will also make some noise when turning. As others have said, I do prefer the look of the original lenses, the PWU ones are not really dark enough. I wonder if a thin coat of tinted epoxy would help to match the colour better
The motors are silent. The noise is from the chatter of the gears. They aren’t housed so no amount of grease will stop the chatter. I used more then I should on the first light bar and it made no difference
Sorry for asking, but has anyone figured out to combine Partwork version insides (best inside performance) with Eaglemoss version outsides ( best outside detail)???? Eaglemoss insides sub par, but sorry to say Eaglemoss outsides are better screen renditions.
hi Wayne any idea where i can get part 69b times 2? The little wire piece eaglemoss seemed to have left mine out and fanhome wont work with me to replace them. So im stuck at stage 78. Ive looked around and cant find them anywhere. I bought a stage 69 off ebay but they were missing from that one too. Unless they came in a different stage and i just dont remember. LOL this build has seemed to be cursed.
Wouldn't the original lights with the motors and gears need oil or grease? I repair/service model locos at my local model shop and times ive oiled some locos due to them screaching beforehand and once oiled they run a lot quieter
The question is: my Ecto will later always be powered by a different ModPack. Will these lights only come on later when you press the buttons on top? Or will they switch on automatically in the selected scheme?
The grey/'metal' part of the Artwork Upgrades lighter just looks cheap. Even painted, there's no getting away from how 'plasticky' it looks. Need to look at transplanting over the wraparound aluminium piece from the original part. Also, 4:26 - is there come sort of film covering the blue plastic that has to be peeled off, as if not, that is the roughest and bumpiest molding I've seen...
@@WorldofWayneUK This is definitely a beta-grade product. v0.5. More work is needed on this design before it can be considered even a release candidate...
I love the silence from this mod, but appearance wise, I very much prefer the original. Will be trying to silence my own when they arrive by using washers & grease, this will also slow them down. A long drawn out task, but well worth it, if everything goes to plan.
Wow- would agree with some comments, don't like the mod light case, take out its guts mod the original light bar ,put mod light bar guts in to original light bar base then spray frost cover on the inside of original light bars so hard to see through ,then place back on top of now mod original light bar and you get best of both worlds, original exterior look but with a silent light effect that gives you options in light effect with out the noise.
As someone making this model too, and only 1 issue remaining (!), I can't say these live up to the visual quality of the overall model. If it was possible to put these in the original casing I'd do it in a heartbeat! But the finish of these really let them down 👎
Yes I do love the idea of these two instead of the noisy ones but $84 or $85 dollars is too much I’m already paying too much money for just the car itself plus I had to buy the bottom base stand separately it only cost me 61 dollars new and I have to build my own acrylic top case so I save money

So for those of you who are building it, it might be worth a shot to find or make some small pulley wheels (3d print) and use a small rubber band to connect them. I have to agree with the others. Only good thing about those replacements is them being quiet. They look awful otherwise. Not as transparent and they look like they were filled with runny resin. The original ones look far superior IMO. Nice work on the car otherwise.

these addon light would be a no go for me! they just dont look the part in comparison to the original one! i rather have real rotators than those fake ones and on the real car they are noise as well!
Merci pour cette présentation mais personnellement je trouve ca vraiment pas beau.
