Many thanks for filming us.Good to have a document as with free improvisation no two concerts are quite the same. For me you are always welcome to film. I can see you listen to the music as you use the camera and also let it 'speak' for itself. A rare balance and not always achieved. Another plus point is the unobtrusive filming technique. There's nothing worse than someone with a camera distracting musicians and audience alike. In a small venue like the Vortex that is also a number one skill!

First time I have heard this and it immediately put me in mind of the travel through the star gate on 2001.

that really is some thread developing there, tends to be a path to follow rather than the fractious nature of Eric Dolphy who really did know how to cast a pebble into the mill pond! Covering the lower keys while playing the upper keys as paddles also what may termed as conventional tone rather than microtones and allowing the tone to develop. I remember my first time playing saxophone in that I was thinking the instrument was the limitation but the more and more you play it just becomes "you" as the obstacle. An abstract sound painting. Had the opportunity to play with Simon H. Fell and Alex Ward in a session which was an education.

You're welcome. Please use the footage for your needs and freely.
And I quite agree, that the music should speak for itself, which is why I try to build a reasonable distance from the musicians, without being too far to pick up sound quality or bobble in their faces during the performance. The last thing an artist needs is a camera shoved in their face. :)
I hope to catch more of your gigs or performances at the Vortex in the future. Very much enjoyed it.

Major congratulations with this. It will be regarded as historic. Of the same value as the Coltrane videos.

Charlie Parker and John Coltrane were neither the beginning nor the end of music!
Learn to listen, then learn to STFU.
If your e(ar)ducation failed to teach you, then don't expect to be able(d) enough to hear the music.
It is an equal effort, that of the listener and the musician/s.

Mort Weiss yes you do get it !!!...this is random nonsense ...anybody can play this cos there is no form to act as a criteria
they should try improvising over coltrane or the tunes from the great American song book at least you have some form with which to measure your efforts by ..this is just emperors new clothes

@@davidscott1052 respectfully disagree. this is jackson pollack for the ears. when you see a picture of a dog, you evaluate it through a rational pathway, vis-a-vis your understanding of dog. this, like abstract art, is assimilated via a non-rational neural pathway, and that is why music exists imho: it can go to an emotional place inaccessible to language. both are legitimate and rewarding aesthetic experiences, with a little acclimatizing.

sounds like random noise .where's the structure ?.give me coltrane and Parker (charlie) anyday...this lot will kill jazz off totally

John Coltrane and Charlie Parker were castigated in their day and I suspect drove away many listeners. A combination of 'the market' and conservative listeners means I doubt this music will be accepted by the mainstream . My reaction? It doesn't matter . ARTISTS NEED TO MAKE ART. I am able to listen to and love this music as much as say Earl Hines ( his name randomly comes into my head). Why can't you ?
