    I just realized I'm practicing stoicism without knowing anything about it prior. I came to this state of mind after facing a lot of disappointments and misfortunes in my life. I don't think people can start practicing stoicism by themselves only life experience can teach them.

    Tbh I am a very satisfied, uninterested, not influenced person who does not want anything from life.. now watching your video I realized there is too much of stoicism in me.. I didn't know the word but I knew how I am functioning. And this completely acceptance of situation of life is also not a good thing because this led to me disinterested in my own life and don't wish to live life because there is nothing to achieve it as I am already satisfied of everything... So actually I am trying to think opposite of what u are proposing.. I am trying to unaccept and change my circumstances and be more curious and trying to set small goals for myself.. trying to be little passionate about things than before.. trying to engage in my life and exploring new things.. I think thats the difference between a passionate and not so passionate person, a pessimistic and an optimist person .. beacuse for u Stoicism is a life changer Philosophy but for people like me opposite of that is what I need .. I think this is because passionate people are too restless they want to accomplish and concern new things while I am always in rest which sometimes makes me frustrated

    Not knowing about this once I tried it. It was the time of my final exams when my college was getting over. We all were happy that we will be graduating but I just messed up my last exam and I realised that I will fail. I thought and made up my mind how to not get affected, how to control my emotions, what will I do after that, what practical steps I will take to counter the situation.
    But when the moment came when I finally got my result I broke down I couldn't control my emotions. Whatever I thought that I would do to control my emotions, I was unable to do I couldn't stop crying, I was unable to face any of my batchmates, felt so inferior, these were the new emotions that I haven't thought of earlier. And so my practice of so called stoicism failed.

    Learning about stoicism from this video I just realised that it isn't much different from Bhagwat Gita philosophy. One principle of which is nishkaam karmayog that superficially means not getting attached to the result of your work, not getting affected by the result positive or negative, not getting affected by failing or succeeding, just choosing the right action and working in the path of it.

  • @nidhipgupta4462
    @nidhipgupta4462 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:36 i think i can describe what you're describing better. its not about not feeling sad or angry but to feel it in its entirety and focus on it and remember exactly how it feels so you slowly become comfortable with it. you seperate emotion and action and simply becomee comfortable with the emotions you do feel instead of suppressing them. just sit and observe your emotion and exactly how it feels and instead of suppressing it focus on it as much as you can and you'll start accepting and processing emotions in the best possible way

    I hope you can answer this. On one hand you are trying to practice stoicism in which ideally , you won't be unsatisfied with whatever nature is throwing at you , and on the other hand, you are celebrating the massive increase in life expectancy through human efforts (whose driving factor is unsatisfaction and hunger for more ) .
    So which side are you inclined towards ? I know you are into Stoicism to some extent but I am sure not fully, else you won't have wanted and worked for a better life probably.

    you changed your life by stoic philosophy, now I suggest vedanta philosophy to figure out who is 'you'..... whose life changed? who is that? You will say varun's life changed but who varun is? Is varun a name of body? mind? thoughts? emotions? memory? figure about who you are and everything will be figured out :)

    I am practicing it since last 4 years without knowing I was in depression kind of state bcoz of COVID and backlogs and changes in life.
    So I started accepting them and weighting then down only mistake I did was overdo it and not focusing on improving it like in a day I used to think atleast 10 times i have backlogs ,I have work to do . But not do it rather write it get off with it and start wasting time but soon i realised this is not working and then after i started working on it with writing and that habit continue till date .

    I am a student of Stoic philosophy since 7 years. I am happy that people are encouraging and using it to bring about a change in their lives. But there's a fair share of criticism and limits the this philosophy or any other as a matter of fact. Stoicism is basically a branch of asceticism and it is NOT for everybody.
    I would have loved the video if it came with the valid criticism that this philosophy has.

    Those talking about vedas and bhagwad gita , sorry as an atheist I don't believe in soul or god so it won't really help me. Stoicism keeps god away from the talk and hence is better . vedas maybe beneficial for you because you can reason everything by saying it's god's will.
