Back when I was young, (I'm approaching 71 now) my Grandpa on my Dad's side had "Walker Hounds" he would hunt with at night. When they got on a scent and started trailing, you could hear them bark and bellow for a mile or two on a calm night. They were gentle and very good natured. Great hounds. My Uncle (same side) had Greyhounds and there were (probably) 15 to 20 other local men who had dogs also. Everyone had CB Radios in their trucks for communication. The guys would go out early on Sat and Sun mornings in the fall and winter and hunt. Trucks would circle a section and (if necessary) someone would walk the half-mile line to spook a Coyote. I remember being out at sunrise on clear, crisp (cold) mornings when the ground was covered with frost or snow and experiencing the thrill of the chase. A Coyote really shined on that sparkling frost or snow. What wonderful memories of better times. (sigh)
Western Oklahoma past Enid was wheat land, with farm to market roads on one mile grid. Late sixties, mild winters, pickups with dogboxes loaded with greyhounds (and a pair of Airdale "kill" dogs up front) ran the grid roads with then new cb radios. Spot and chase coyotes, pull a rope and spill the dogs at 25 mph, head over heels, up and running. Greyhounds would bay the ran out coyote. Airdales would walk up stiff legged and kill.
Back in the mid 60s I worked for a rancher in eastern Colorado who took in former racing grayhounds. He had an old 48 Buick Roadmaster that was minus the backseat. We would take off driving across the prairie with 4 dogs in the back. As soon as a coyote was spotted we drove as fast as we could slide to a halt and the chase was on. There is nothing like watching the dogs run in wide open spaces. This video brings back some really good memories.....thanks
I have felt guilty over the years, adopting a Catahoula Cur and did not know the breed (at the time). He wanted to hunt something down and kill it. If only he had opportunities like this. He would have been great. Strong, robust .....but he did make a great hiking and family companion. Probably the best dog I have ever had. But I denied him his hunting instincts. I would let him lose on camping trips however to get rid of the pesky coons. People always shamed me for it, but he came back every time without a scratch, and we did not suffer from coon problems ;)
I knew a guy who's dad did this back in the 1920's. They used an Irish Wolfhound to bring up the rear and help with the kill. One day they stumbled onto a grey wolf. Very rare as most were eliminated. He said he could remember the whimpering of the hounds in the barn that night as they were all badly cut up.
My dad worked with a government hunter named Roy Spangler in Colorado during the mid 1930s. Roy used Greyhounds and one Russian Wolfhound to run and kill coyotes and dad told amazing stories about how fast and effective the dogs were. This is the first video I've seen that probably is close to what my dad, at 15 years old, experienced nearly a hundred years ago. Thanks.

Remarkable speed. Amazing to see how they engage with the coyote. They don't nip and back away. It's not a slow dispatch of a thousand bites. Heavier than most greyhounds that I've seen, too, but they look healthy and formidable. They probably fight best at bantam weight.

I'm sure you get alot of hate, but as a long time bird hunter with GSP's, I love seeing people using dogs for the purpose they were bred for. How fast can a coyote run? I had a GSP that consistently was in the 39 - 40 mph range with the tracking collar, she caught a coyote fairly easily until I stopped her fearing $$$ vet bills. Most people don't realize Fluffy even exists due to breeding by hunters.

Thats awesome. Never seen a greyhound do what they are breed for.
I had a welding partner that told me greyhounds were killers. I said no. Then he showed me what they do. Absolutely amazing
It's a side of them you didn't usually see. They are mind blowing
Did you know that weenie dogs were bred to hunt badgers!? True!
Amazing…that white pup certainly has drive.
I am from West Virginia. I am 68. I been huntin all my life. That has to be one of the coolest things/hunts I have ever seen. Thanks for the entertainment buddy!
Thanks a lot!
Man I’d love a ride along with you guys just to watch this in person
Its once in a lifetime experience for sure
I have been a hunter my whole life.. Running down a coyote with a pack of dogs and a pickup truck, just asking.. Is that considered Fair Chase?
Coyotes are not game in my state so no season and not many rules...like feral hogs.
Do you always hunt fair? If you use a rifle or bow against a defenseless animal is that fair?
And using dogs that can't kill the quarry... Total joke .
Really😂... who gives a shit about fair ..
You think the yote cares about fair when as a pack they kill someone's pet or a baby deer ... man hush that cry baby shit up this is man shit find another vid to watch maybe try weaving or basket making
This isn't about fair
That’s awesome they are fast !
Love it you guys!!❤
Those dogs are smart, fearless, and great.
The last run freedom put the work in that dog made up some serious ground good job buddy from the uk
A coyote's nightmare but the dog's sweet dreams.
I ran a mix pit/greyhound fir coyote. Fast and would fight anything. Love your videos! Keep it going 👍
I was just going to ask if anyone ever tied Pit x Greyhound on the coyotes, Here in Australia that cross is very popular on pigs & foxes, Very quick and hard dogs.
Popular cross in Ireland 🇮🇪 too, 1/4 or 3/8 pit is plenty 👌
This video just gave me so much energy while sitting on the couch
3:12 this reminds me of a time I was out hunting with my dad and caught nothing. We proceeded to go home and the next day I went out alone got jumped and robbed by 6 strangers in a parking lot. Brings back terrible memories, thanks.
I’m just here to say how much I love to see your dogs work. I watched races for a few years, but this is something I never knew existed. I love it!
Thanks!
Great video! Love seeing the dogs - there happy to be on a hunting trip today
For sure
This channel is awesome 😃
This looks like too much fun keep videos coming 👍
Will do!!
Wow! Those dogs are fast. Super impressive.
If you release the dogs too soon would they gas out before catching the yote? If so how long can they go flat out?
Look like a lot of fun, they need to be thined down, in Iowa anyhow. A small group of us also run coyotes but not with dogs. 2 small pieces of advice that I know from experience tho. 1-watch out for sink holes and waterways, dashboards don’t taste good and watch out for airbags, pull the fuses or unhook em- they hurt! LOL😊. You guys have definitely done this before, I’m jealous. Thanks for the video(s), keep ‘em comin and have fun!!!
EVERYONE KEEP 👀 ON NEW VIDEO COMING SOON!!!!! GOING TO BE BANGER!!
Can’t wait to see it son. Keep the good work!
Great video 👍👍
Do the dogs just rip them to shreds? I didn't understand this.
@@redfaux74 No. they just kill them by the neck they dont rip them apart
As a Greyhound owner I love watching them fly but can you tell me what "hot blood" means? Much thanks
They are all happy. "We are going hunting!"
That last run was a long one, I wasn’t sure if they were going to get it stopped. Nicely done.
Sure was!!
My DDR GSD loves watching your videos.
Awesome, I never thought of that.
🤟🏼
That’s badass. Never would have thought a dog could run on down. Come to Pa and do this.
That's pretty slick!
Great video keep it up!! Your dogs are amazing!
Thank you! Will do!
Wow! I’m amazed of this video. Great work Doggos!
