You pointing out the lack of magical damage made me realize something Riza's DM (a.k.a. the author) DIDN'T give her a magical weapon even when all the enemies showing up had resistance to nonmagical damage and regeneration while everyone else in the party was a caster
Much like regular Hawkeye, I can't believe she made it through FMA alive. Like, she was telegraphing "I'm an Act 3 death" all over the place. I guess the writing just wasn't on the wall... because it's on her back.
@@JaelinBezel Before she had Roy burn parts of it to cover it up, Riza had a flame alchemy tattoo on her back. Her Father, who Roy was an apprentice of, put it there
I thought she asked him to burn it because it was too hard for anyone to research and she didn't want the pressure of that on her anymore. Roy was the only apprentice that ever solved it but even then he didn't burn up the vital bits.
The FMA D&D party is really good. The two sorcerers each of which are multi-class with fighter and hexblade, fighter/wizard warforged, college of swords bard now this .. very solid..
I'd likely call the Dwarf in the Flask a fiend, but the Homunculi come across as monstrosities to me, as that category is for artificially created, fused, or otherwise bastardized life. Chimera are certainly monstrosities.
@@baileyp_ I'm not sold on that because they do all insist upon themselves being human. We only see the creation of Wrath and Greeling, but it's enough to show that they are really human just with a philosopher stone instead of a heart.
@@Barksdale-em8sw they are modified humans, making them monstrosities rather than humanoids. They 100% were human, and most of them still consider themselves human-kin but better, more evolved
Seriously, though! Everyone almost always builds fighters to be melee dps or tanks regardless of subclass. To this day, one of my favorite fighter builds has to be a champion fighter archer. It sounds simple and stupid, but being able to launch up to 8 attacks from a 100+ feet away that are 3 times more likely to score a crit, you're a terror on the battle field. Pair it up with 3 levels of Rogue (scout to be specific) so you have access to things like Cunning Action so you can dash, disengage, or hide is a huge boon for a archer. Having access to the Skirmisher ability from Scout so you can use your reaction to move up to half your movement away from a creature if it ends it's turn within 5 feet of you without provoking opportunity attacks is another nice boon to keep you mobile and out of enemy reach. I would mention sneak attack, but the extra dps it adds is pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.
@@iselreads2908 Made better since, with all of the Fighter ASIs and how mono ability dependent archers are, you can pretty easily fit in Mobile and Sharpshooter to make sure that nobody ever gets near you, either by running away or because they're already dead
Riza is my favorite character from FMA, I'm glad she's finally been added to the roster here. Tbh though, the one thing I'll probably change is boosting that Con mod. It was low, and Riza isn't much of a talker so Cha isn't that important for her, imo.
I'd probably just forgo the +2 Cha ASI for the sake of starting her as a Variant Human instead of Custom Linage. Almost feel like that was thrown into the build specifically for that reason. Probably throw in Piercer instead to make up the extra point of Dex and not bother upping another ability score? Maybe Athlete. ...Actually, wait, you'd just grab the Dex with Skill Expert instead of bumping Int, so I guess could add another full feat. Plenty of them would be applicable. Or different half feat for the Int increase, since investigation, awareness, and general booksmarts is still important to the character. Ya know, maybe sticking with getting Int from Skill Expert is the way to go, since the other Int half-feats are a bit underwhelming to justify. Eh, plenty of flexibility what you might want to do. But grabbing the Tough feat to play into how good she is at avoiding being taken down over just face-tanking attacks is probably the more fitting option instead of boosting the Con if the low HP is a deal-breaker.
7:14 True! I played a protective brother to one of the other characters in a game. I was in that adventure pretty much entirely because I wanted to keep her safe. It was very fun and we had a fun sibling dynamic that lead to great RP. I 100% recommend piggybacking off someone's backstory if they are okay with it.
It's 100% coincidence that my birthday falls on a Tulok upload day, but that doesn't stop it from feeling extra nice. ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS THE CHARACTER I'VE BEEN VOTING FOR SINCE SHE FIRST SHOWED UP. So thanks for making this librarians birthday 😊
While it was a fairly straightfroward character compared to some I think this was an excellent write-up. Very much captured the essence of the character while still making an effective character.
During the calligraphy joke I just realized Alchemy is basically magic calligraphy. Curious when there'll be an FMA character who uses Artificer (or Artificer Initiate) with Calligrapher's tools for alchemy or alkahestry.
You can also take the piercer feat that can give you a plus 1 to dex and once per turn when you role damage die with a piercing weapon aka your guns you can reroll the damage die just incase you roll low and when you crit you add another damage die to the attack
Worth noting that unless you're specifically using it for its tracking effect, Hunter's Mark is usually just worse than the Favored Foe ability granted by Tasha's Ranger. It gives up, like, 1 damage on average, in exchange for not using a bonus action, which since your primary class is Rogue, is a pretty important resource. Slayer's Prey has the same problem, which is why I'd probably go with Hunter (Colossus Slayer, specifically - same reliable 1/turn damage bonus, no bonus action required) as the Ranger subclass.
Yes, you might diss the literal military normal person in a fantasy setting, but said person would kick your behind in so many levels to remind you how well a shot in the face works even on rainy days. Riza Hawkeye is the military officer and bodyguard with a fitting serious but courteous demeanor that exude the image of an exemplar on her job (truly a gem to awaken great jealousness from Mr Mustang, one a Tangle the lemur build from Sir Tulok would put at peace, but only a little for how talented is this Lieutenant). with the brains to get the job done and the body to break a person's neck while rocking a mini skirt, Ms Grumman E-2 "Hawk's Eye" is probably the one in charge of most important decisions in a team, because the two young brothers and your boyfriend are sharing the same tired neuron, someone have to keep them alive, even if that means breaking some rules for your friends.
My second favorite FMA:B character (or first tied with Hohenheim), and so happy to see the build. A little surprised that we didn't have Gloomstalker instead of Monster Slayer, but it fits! I called the rogue/fighte/ranger at the start though, and was afraid we woudn't hit ranger outright lol
Every time Tulok does a gun-wielding gun character, I always hope that he'll FINALLY use Matt Mercer's Gunslinger build. But then he goes the other way, to remind me that Gunslinger is just a flavored Battle Master. Well played Tulok, great video (as always).
Okay, pre-vid prediction: variant human, crossbow master/gunner feat, high DEX and WIS, dumping STR. Put 11 levels in Battlemaster fighter, archery fighting style. Use two ABIs to cap DEX, one to take Sharpshooter. Scout Rogue 3, Kensei Monk 6, using an ABI on Observant, and capping off by making all shots magical.
I kinda want to mix mastermind and battlemaster to blend "Insightful Manipulator" and "Know Your Enemy". Just a minute of observation and I know more about the target than they do. lol
Would love to see a compare and contrast between this build and a Lady from Devil May Cry build. Both are just normal (mostly) ass humans going up against inhuman threats with some guns
Prediction; So Gunslinger archetype will be against the rules (fair), but I do think Fighter is the way to go. So honestly I’m thinking Samurai Fighter using ranged weapons. A lot of damage, but not magical. Champion or Battlemaster are tied for second place. Whatever let’s you shoot somebody and make it hurt the most You could go a few levels in Ranger for Hunters Mark, but Riza feels like a Fighter to me.
Tulok what if we have a character suggestion but literally cannot join patreon do to lack of any non paper payment methods is there anyway to suggest a character at that point
For another crack shot who, while technically having a superior, calls the shots and is really good at fighting enemies who are no longer human, there's always Jesse Faden
It may feel a little weird but could you PLEASE build Dallas (Nathan Steele) from Payday/Payday 2? I'm doing a payday oneshot and I would love to see how you put him together.
I literally just made a battlemaster/mastermind sniper build for usopp lmaoooo now people are gonna think I’m copying you 😭 Tho I forgoed ranger levels entirely, his pop greens are really more of a magic item IMO
I've been wondering why no one, AND I MEAN NO ONE, talks about how you can ready action after an action surge to get sneak attack online. Like was it just assumed that people knew that already or something?
Ah yes, Riza Hawkeye, the full auto alchemist.

Riza's DM (a.k.a. the author) DIDN'T give her a magical weapon even when all the enemies showing up had resistance to nonmagical damage and regeneration while everyone else in the party was a caster
I mean, 50 damage a turn is still 50 damage a turn
And she STILL managed to be a vital part of the team! That's the power of a good roleplayer!
