Solo Hiking The Uinta Highline Trail | Most Remote Trail In America?

- I've started the Uinta Highline Trail on August 2nd to finish it 6 days later August 7th. The UHT is a trail in the Uinta Mountains of Utah that traverses the range 104 miles (167 km) from east to west.
The trail passes through expansive alpine landscapes dominated by metasedimentary rocks sculpted by past glaciers. The broad glacial basins are dotted by hundreds of lakes.
No music track has been added after the intro to let the beauty and sounds of the trail speak for itself.
For now there is no permit required to hike the Uinta Highline Trail.
The Uinta Highline Trail has a remote, primitive character. In places, the trail lacks tread and is merely a route marked with occasional cairns, posts, or signs. This can be attractive to users who seek solitude and have the necessary navigation skills.

I’ve used AllTrail App as main navigation tool

Filming Gear:
•Camera: iPhone 15 Pro Max
•Editing App: VN
•Tripod: JOBY Gorillapod 1K Stand with Ulanzi ST-02S Aluminum Phone Tripod Mount
I often hang the tripod on top of the end of my trekking poles to get a higher landscape view.

Hi Ratatrail,
six days on your own in the wilderness of the Uinta Highline Trail - that promises solitude, peace, focus, deep experiences that touch the soul, spectacular landscapes, insights into the history of the earth, rare animal encounters, atmospheric sunrises and sunsets. But it takes willpower and perseverance. The little human in an almost frightening vastness. Carry your backpack, gain altitude, set up camp exhausted. Thank God no dangerous animal encounters. What an adventure!!! We respect you for your performance. It's crazy to capture all of this so brilliantly on film. Set up the camera, run twice to collect the camera again. The quality of the images is impressive. Great photo eye! Simply cinematic. Thank you for this documentation! Christiane and Werner wish you a nice weekend 🤗
It's comments like this that make me want to continue sharing videos even more, it's very motivating. This UHT was physically demanding and the weather was not always easy but what it offered in return was incredible. Thank you Christiane and Werner for this feedback, I really appreciate it, take care!
Incredibly shot and edited. Thank you for sharing!!
@@YvesEntually-lh2hi Thank you so much! The Uinta Highline Trail is such an incredible place…it was a joy to capture and share it. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Just spectacular scenery man! This place is breathtaking! What a film
Thank you, I appreciate it!
The views from the passes were truly incredible even if the weather was very unpredictable and unstable.
Indeed!
I really enjoyed all the authentic moments you featured - the scoop of hail, the tufted flowers blowing in the wind, glimpses of running deer, the crackle of the campfire. They perfectly complement the grand landscapes, magnificent clouds, and great perspective shots of you on trail. Beautifully done!
Thank you for the great feedback Laura, it’s encouraging and motivating. The UHT is incredibly beautiful, very remote, a hike where you hardly meet anyone, you feel at peace.
Wow… that double rainbow… I’m jealous. Looked like a special experience. Creation itself kept you constant company. No need to search for peace, ur there ☮️
@@derekfarley1320 The double rainbow felt like a gift from nature, it happen so fast, It really was something special. It was an unforgettable adventure, wish you could have been there!
Toujours de plus en plus beau, les uns après les autres
Bravo
Merci! La météo pas toujours clémente à donner une autre allure à cette randonnée, des arc-en-ciel, de la grêle, forte pluie et quand le soleil revient on l’apprécie encore plus.
A beautifully done video. Thanks for taking us along. Definitely on my list of trails to do. You really capture the essence of the trail.
@@jeffreyrule8143 Thank you Jeffrey. If you like solitude, not meeting a lot of people, high altitude, breathtaking landscapes and about a week of free time then this is really a hike you will love. Hope you’ll have the chance to experience it.
Looks like such an epic solo adventure on the Uinta Highline Trail! The scenery is so stunning, and I love how you let the natural sounds speak for itself. 104 miles in 6 days - pretty impressive! The remote feel of the trail def adds to the experience. Thanks for sharing, really inspiring!
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. I had originally planned to do it in 7 days, but that dry 20 mile section pushed me to go a little faster.
Overall, I was impressed by the bigness of the place. The views from the passes are truly incredible, and there's nothing better than walking past an alpine lake while peaks tower overhead. It’s one of the best solitude hiking experience I’ve ever had.
Beautifully done
@@soniadowney7427 Glad you liked it! The UHT was an incredibly beautiful trail to hike.
great job on this vid. you really captured the feeling of being there. immersive. new sub!!
Thanks so much! Glad you felt immersed…that’s exactly what I was going for. The Uintas are such a wild and remote place to hike. Appreciate the sub!
Fantastic shots as always - looks like a great hike. I love a good hailstorm.
Thank you Seth! A short 107 miles hike, but physically harder than I thought, maybe I’m getting older. That hailstorm/rain lasted for hours, a good time to rest in the tent.
Wow, just found you, second video, amazing. Thanks.
@@DonD-m6i thanks, that’s was a very remote and special trail to hike!
Great video. The Uinta mountains are very much my happy place! What was your gear load out for the trip? Do you have a lighter pack or pack wizard of the gear/food you used?
Thank you! The Uintas are truly special! For this trip, I aimed for a lightweight setup while still being prepared for the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather. My base weight was around [12.5 lbs] and I carried about [11lbs] of food for the whole trip. I don’t have a pack wizard yet, but I could definitely make one!
Mostly it was coucous and tuna, nuts and granola bars!
First off - really well done video- you really captured the essence of the place. I'm looking at the UHT next summer and have a couple of questions. How were the bugs that early in the season? Going that early would work well for me from a logistics perspective (before school) but normally later in the season is better for bugs. Also, did you use a shuttle service or how did get from trailhead to trailhead?
@@bradrogers2427 Thank you for the kind words! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the video and felt it captured the spirit of the Uinta Highline Trail. It’s truly a special hike!
I started the trail on August 2nd and finished six days later, on August 7th. Surprisingly, there were almost no bugs during that time…I even brought a bug net and didn’t end up needing it. Early August seems to be a sweet spot for avoiding both snow and bugs, so it might work well for you!
As for logistics, I took a Greyhound bus from the airport to Vernal and stayed overnight at a motel. The next morning, I hitchhiked about 31 miles from Vernal to the trailhead. It worked out well, took about 25min to get the ride.
Let me know if you have any other questions-happy to help! I hope you have an amazing hike next summer.
Ha ha.. I hiked bast those rib bones in July 2025. nice video!
@@JuanVeruete Thank you! A bit unexpected, made me think that’s gonna be me one day!
Great shots and video.
I thru hiked the AT 2024 and thinking of doing this trail this summer.
How was august?
Did you go east to west?
Thanks! The Uinta Highline Trail is an awesome hike. August was a great time…mostly dry, minimal bugs and all the snow was gone from the high passes. Afternoon thunderstorms were common. So remote compare to popular trail, you’ll love it! Be sure to have an offline map, I’ve use AllTrails Maps sometimes to get back on the trail, very useful!
Hiked it East to West.
