They don’t trap them anymore? Back in the 70’s and 80’s I use to trap nutria, mink and raccoons…i sold the pelts green to houma fur company. They are good to eat as well…..I ran 150 traps daily…..3 month season…..I took out thousands of them in my day. They are very invasive and destroy the marsh. Enjoyed the video Jarred…..hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas. 🙏🎄
Last week in Biloxi Marsh WMA fishing I noticed tracks on the bank dragging a tail… nutria! Made a call to WMA office requesting guidance on harvesting nutria in this WMA and after a brief discussion they told me they would call me back. About two hours later a call was received stating that all state and WMA rules governing hunting apply and during duck seasons only shot and weapon approved for duck are permitted. I had specifically asked about .22 cal rifle and was told that would be legal outside any duck season. I eat most sm animals and feel nutria will be an excellent addition to freezer meat. Will let you know how I do… Great video… keep them coming!
It's funny how you have to ask very detailed questions. Getting information out of them is like pulling teeth. Why They don't just volunteer the information? If you didn't ask about the .22 cal , that would've been that. Good thing you asked the right question! 👍
@@rabbithole8592I don't know about your state but in AR you can use .22 as long as there is a small game season open such as squirrel. That's on our state WMA's as well as our federal NWR's.
@@rabbithole8592I think I would do some more digging. Sometimes you get bad information from misinformed individuals. A lot of the time they will have a public information officer return calls and they may not understand what you are asking.
I love your videos man. Moved to Belle Chasse from north Floridian 4 and a half years ago and have been Hunting deer and fishing for Reds and speckled trout ever since. Love it all. Love the Louisiana outdoors. Would love to meet you some time. Keep up the good videos. I watch them all.
Great video! It would be interesting to see an unlisted video of you cleaning and breaking down the nutria. Also do you clean all of them for future use or do some hit the compost pile?
M8 your rats are bigger than ours in western Oregon . They do make all kinds of delicious meals with the right seasonings, do you also use them as nail for gators ? Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.
I went nutria hunting in freshwater marsh between Houma and Morgan city and harvested quite a few.....only problem is when I stepped off the front of the mud boat I sunk up to my ASS.......LITERALLY.....My knee boot stayed under 2 feet of muck after I finally pulled my leg out the quicksand like muck......so from that point on we only shot the ones near banks edge that could be retrieved from boat......Made an awesome sauce piquant as meat is beautiful
Just came over from Yawt Yawt's channel and subscribed. Thanks for showing the "cook" part. (Yawt's video wasn't "catch and cook", it was "catch and eat". 😅) FWIW, that sauce looked great to me. I'd eat a (wild) rat over a bug any day! 😊
I need to put up a sign next to my property, which is next to a bike path, which is next to a year round stream... No ROUSs. Big red circle with a slash through it....
That looks fabulous! Just a tip, use a splash of wine to deglaze that pan for more flavor. And Rao"s Marinara (even though it's from NY) is the bees knees😄
Excellent job! And in terms of quantity of meat, you could easily bag the equivalent of a full-size Whitetail buck. Nutria meat is quite tasty, nothing strong about it.
It’s already too late to fully eradicate nutria. Hell, I’ve seen a bunch of them all they up in Oregon and Washington, that’s quite a ways from Louisiana.
appreciate the reply and understand. But can you tell me this, the worst smelling meat i found was a groundhog caught in a conibear trap. It appears that the musk glands were crushed under the jaws of the trap. do nutria have anything similar?@@OutsidetheLevees

This may sound crazy but I’ve been seeing them on Snapchat and I recorded 3 myself in Hattiesburg…like wtf

I'm surprised TH-cam let you air the footage of shooting them. Very neat listening and didn't know you can cook them up so nice.
Looks like fun, can't wait to try it myself. Great video and boy did that spaghetti look good.
Came for the Princess Bride reference, stayed for the rat killing. Nice job guys.

Merry Christmas thanks for the teaching about nutrition
Thank you for explaining why the Nutria Rats are such a problem in Louisiana.
Our pleasure!
Came across from Yawt Yawt - Loving your channel

Almost a Rutria bolognese. Absolutely loved it!
Love the nutria videos brother Jerry!

Lived down here all my life and have never had the chance to do this. It looks like a fun time and something i hope i get the chance to do.
lolol love the RUS's reference lololol. great hunt!
I had never heard of these rats until I watched you on Yawt Yawt's channel. Those things are huge! Kind of reminds me of Princess Bride. LOL
Definitely lol

Great video! Yawt Yawt sent me here and way to go, knock out the nutria population!
Happy to have you
Nutria fur makes good felt for hats.
I would give it a try, I’m sure if you were starving it would be Delicious! Hear the Nutra taste like Rabbit.
Why don't alligators thin the herds?
Princess Bride reference.....love it
Makes me sad how few people realize the Princess Bride reference... Inconceivable.
I'm surprised the gators let them get that populated. You'd think swimming on the surface they'd be the perfect gator meal.
I agree
As farmers in Manchuria say…a frozen toad sitting in sun in may a good harvest of rice if January awaits…
lol never heard that one
It’s already too late to fully eradicate nutria. Hell, I’ve seen a bunch of them all they up in Oregon and Washington, that’s quite a ways from Louisiana.
Hey Jared and buddies, there is some sharp shooting goin on there💥👍.
Dang Varmints are Nasty!
What do they taste like?
JO JO IN VT 💞
I cooked nutria for Yankees from Pennsylvania they loved it
That’s quite the fire swamp you’re in.
there is a hair in the meat, bottom left corner of the at @13:04
Great hunting
Yea....them ROUSs are hard on the 'vironment!🤗
I'd like to see you make Nutra Chile. And tan Nuta skin and make gloves.
Mmmmmm, maybe you can open a rat burger chain , kidding. Looks like a way to fill some time when the birds aren’t flying.
Top notch man great food great videos!!
Wow , those things are as big as whistle pigs !
They sure are
They are delicious with proper seasoning and sriracha
Does your state not require you to police your brass? I was surprised to see you didn’t have cartridge collector attachments
They don’t but most of it falls in the boat thankfully
Yummo!!😃Nutria Rat Mac and Cheese..😋😋…..LOL
We chased them in Dulac on foot years ago. We caught one baby.🤣
That’s awesome
Couldn't help it but I had to ask if you have ran into the Dread Pirate Wesley lately? Lol.
Nutria Zombie King is coming soon
Maybe a gafe to reach out to grab them
I bet it would make a good jerky... maybe teriyaki
Yea, that looked good but I'm not eating no Rat!!
This is the only dude I know who can make rodent spaghetti look appetizing. I would’ve ordered that at a restaurant. With garlic bread, of course.
I just ate the left overs too 😂
So glad to have you
Samuel you are a true friend to the channel. God bless
Made sausage one time it was great. Fried the front legs like chicken and couldn't get enough. Best fried chicken ever
Mama Mia bigger than a small dog America has all kinds of creatures
For real
@@OutsidetheLevees I lived in LA around 1986-1990 I lived in Asia America has so many diversified creatures
You should do guided Hunting
Greetings new subscriber from yawt yawt collab. do you have a clean vid on nutria or does Big Brother frown on such?
I’m not much on cleaning videos we can’t monetize them and people always critique how you do it

Qual o país q você reside irmão?
I’m in United States in Louisiana
Have a question is it easy to determine the difference between the nutria and muskrat when hunting..me I'd be afraid of shooting the wrong animal??
Yes nutria are much bigger and muskrat are rare
Ola mi bro que buena casería saludos desde Arizona mi bro
Thank you my friend God bless you
Bloody things make a hell of a mess. At least you get some free food though.
What are you hitting them with? 2 3/4 BB?
How deep is the water?
Wonder if the gators are getting bigger with all that food?
Hello there Jared I was just wondering if you could make a sausage patties from them
It's just like any other meat. Grind it up with some good fat and have at it. Nutria sausage patties for breakfast!
What other meat can you compare the nutria to in taste
Are you required to use non-lead shot, when shooting them w/ a shotgun?
Yes
Best huntin videos iv seen
Man that’s a huge compliment
what size shot do you use for those ugly things
Anything you would
Use for ducks or a 22
I’ve never ate one but I bet they are better than a duck or a goose!!!
Do you use the rats for gator bait
Yes you can use them they work fine
Good eating right there !
Yes indeed
Do the gators or raptors eat them?
Some
But def not enough
Is the Title Name a reference of FALLOUT?
Princess Bride
Do you have to use non-toxic shot? What size shot?
You do not have to but we usually use duck loads #2
What size shot you use on those guys, some look pretty big
Normally whatever we use to hunt ducks
Keep up the good work
These nutria look to be the same species as African grass cutters.
looks good
Ya'll need some retriever dogs to go get them rats.
Them duck loads are a bit over kill dont ya think?
As opposed to what?
they used to be highly prized for thier fur...many people used to trap them.
Really? The fur looks coarse and scratchy 😖🥴
Top a caçada em👍
Thank you
I knew a guy who'd make a stew out of nutria rat.
I was waiting on you to say It tastes like chicken 😅
Assuming you are using shotguns, what size shot you using?
Same shot you use for ducks
Ohh Yeah you maybe can make a Stew out of it
Does gators eat these?
What size shot?
What does it taste like
I remember i caught a nutria with my bare hands
