1960 in the farming heartland of central New Zealand; late summer bakes the hills brown and dirt roads cut through long standing farms to old homesteads.
Among the vast tracks of inherited wealth, conservatism and honour meet undercurrents of retribution and ambition. This is a place held together by allegiances, fractured by isolation and driven by hidden desires.
Billy - a Maori city boy arrives on the Henshaw farm to start a new life and escape his past.
Tom - the wealthy farmer’s son, beautiful with youthful arrogance wants to escape his expected future.
All is not as it seems on this respected farm: as Billy soon discovers it is a tinder-box of deceit and malice.
In this cauldron of tension and repression Billy and Tom form a bond too deep to sever.
A family with everything to lose faces individual’s with everything to gain. Something must give.
A few want power to control. Two need freedom to love.
