I just love Dan's "metallized" versions of non-metal songs, they improve the songs quite a bit. His covers of songs originally sung by females are quite impressive as well, as Dan sings them in the original key. Whatever you pick from his catalogue, every single song is amazing.
One of my fav’s of Dan’s. Not quite sure how a power cover of a child’s movie song twists me into a pretzel but it does. Gave up trying to analyze long ago. In this particular one, I've heard a TON of people comment that the only "TH-camr" they predominantly recognize (of all of them presented in this video) is Peter Hollens. I'm a patron of Peter's (have been since 2015), and I told him that in one of our community chats a couple of months back. He was greatly honored to have been recognized in Dan's presentation, over all five of the others. These are all TH-camrs who inspired Dan to give TH-cam a try, himself. 😀 Speaking of Peter Hollens, and inspiration...there are three songs that he does with Tim Foust (the bass from Home Free), that are very moving, awesome, and powerful. Well...there are more than three, but these are my favorites: "Sound of Silence" (based on the Simon and Garfunkel style), "Misty Mountains" (WOW), and "Greensleeves," which not only shows Peter's prowess plus the way the two of them always blend so awesomely, but it also shows Tim's EXTREMELY smooth register changes, from WAY low, to smoothly, smoothly, smoothly up into the alto range (he can go higher, but for that song, the range change he so EASILY performs is super AWESOME)! I couldn't see an explanation in the comments so far, so in short the context for this song is that Mulan, a young woman, takes her father's place when he is called to join the army again to defend China against the invading Huns (his health is poor and she knows it would probably kill him). She disguises herself as a man and pretends to be a son of the family, since women aren't allowed to fight. Hence the line "hope he doesn't see right through me" in this song. This song is sung by captain Shang, who has been charged with training all the new recruits, i.e. make "proper men" of them. Mulan initially struggles but manages to keep her true identity hidden, keep up with the training and use her creative thinking to solve problems in unusual ways. I won't spoil the rest of the plot but the animated Disney movie is definitely worth watching.
