I agree with Dr Holland actually. While I don't label myself a theist I am also not an atheist yet after studying Roman and Persian history I just cant seem to escape Christianity as a root to my foundation in my life. I think that the story of Jesus is much more important than just a religious view but as a strong Political foundation to society. I find Jesus to be a rather interesting historical figure to study even if I was raised agnostic. He is a strong pillar to Western society.

Jesus was not a slave, but a carpenter and a teacher with growing number of followers. He lived in a country that was occupied, invaded by the Romans who didn't tolerate anyone who questioned their authority. Christ was crucified because the Jewish establishment and the Roman who were anxious of revolts saw him as a very dangerous man who poses a threat to their rule. From Christian perspective however, Jesus was the Son of God, the lamb who was scarified to redeem the world. He died on the cross, crushed by the Romans only to later rise from the death full of Glory.

The Christian message is a very radical one -just examine the words of the "Magnificat" prayer (said by the virgin Mary after she was given the news she would be the mother of the Christ) "he has torn down the mighty from their seats." The Christian message is also unrelentingly on the side of the poor and downtrodden and critical of the rich and powerful. These ideas, though often submerged, were in the fullness of time,to reemerge time and time again even among people who didn't realize where they came from in the first place.

The question is: Jesus really Rose from the death?
If Jesus'resurrection is a historical event (as I believe it is) so christianity is true and Jesus is really the promissed jewish messiah and God incarned, the Eternal Creator and sustainer of the entire Universe.
If Jesus'resurrection never happened christianity is false.
It is as Simple as that.
The values are something secondary, what really matters is if it's true and I think all the evidences from diferent backgrounds points to the veracity of the Bible and christianity. Jesus'resurrection, his miracles, healings, exorcisms, apparitions afther death, ascencion into heaven, his fulfillment of the ancient Jewish prophecies and his way of life and teachings proves that he is much more than just a historical figure out a prophet. He is God himself in human flesh, the omniscient, omnipresent, all powerfull, trancendent, Eternal Creator and sustainer God of the Universe.
Christianity is a religion based on historical figures, real events and real places that are visited by thousands of people every year and where there are archeological excavations.
    Moreover archeology supports the Bible.
Jesus' apostles were persecuted, arrested, tortured and martyred because what they said they saw, heard, touched and witnessed.

Yes because Jesus rose from the dead otherwise those disciples would not have gone out to all nations to baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And die for what they believed in. Nobody dies for something they _knowingly_ know is a lie.

hatter00 you fail to realize that the 12 apostles were COWARDS before when Jesus was arrested they all fled out of fear. They gained the boldness to go into the world and preach the good news after they saw Jesus rise from the dead again. Not only them of course Jesus brother James who was a non believer became a believer after Jesus came to him. Same with Paul who use to persecute christians but then became a believer after Jesus visited him. You’re telling me they were all delusional?

@hatter00 I suggest you read the bible. I am not making a large claim. I am saying according to the bible Lazarus came back from the dead but he would die a physical death (again). Jesus came back to life but he did not die again. As far as if you believe what the bible says is true or not I could care less. I am just saying ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE.

Is your mother stupid too. Quranic crap the only book in history that denies the crucifixion! Roman historians testify to it, Gospel writers, atheist also testify to Jesus's death. An a false prophet comes along 600 years later and says no. Allah waits 6 centuries later to point out the mistake. Give me a break. Quit being a Moslem and join Jesus the Son of God

This idea comes out of an early gnostic heresy called Docetism. This error is very early and it is what St John the Evangelist argues against in his Gospel. Jesus’ favorite apostle who saw him be crucified and was the last apostle to die testifies against the claims of docetism and all its derrivates like the one in the Quran etc etc. Meditate on that.
Islam integrates docetist ideas and several other heresies into its doctrines.
Read St John of Damascus who lived in the late 7th century for an early review. To over simplify a bit Islam is basically Arianism 2.0 or 3.0 if you count Nestorianism as 2.0 (Prophet Mohammed used to hang around nestorian monks from which he got many of his ideas).
