Hey, Joe Naylor from Railhammer here. Truly appreciate Ryan taking the time to test my pickups, thanks! But I have to admit that this may not be the best representation of what the Chisels can do. I think that particular guitar might be a very stiff instrument, I'm hearing little resonance or body in the tone, and I also feel the Thrasher is a very finicky amp. Just for comparison sake, check out the tones here, especially the cleans starting at 1:50, same pickups: Reverend Sensei RA Thanks! Joe
I would have to agree with you Joe, they do sound pretty good in the comparision video you posted! It makes me curious about how the Hyper Vintage set compares for clean tones.
Joe Naylor Well, that was kinda a slap in the face to Ryan. He puts so much time into these videos and tries to make everybody, including the manufacturer, happy and persuade them to buy the product, and you just go and blame his quality gear because your unsatisfied with the tone. Screw you.
Hey man. I'm now the owner of the guitar, and I have to say, the tone is not that great in this thing, no matter what you put it through. The guitar also does resonate quite freely, so...yeah. Those rails really make the low end thin and brittle, and the over compensated slugs for the unwound strings are very overbearing. I've tried it through several amps since I swapped guitars with ***** and they definitely need a bit more work before I'd consider purchasing them, or at the very least, they'd need to be put into a guitar that's not mahogany. They're not terrible, but they're far from my personal opinion of "good."
I hear a lot of personal resentfulness in both parties' comments here. Being as objective as it gets, I listened to the video you linked. This show how much sound a matter of taste is: the distorted sound in that video is the kind where I immediately would consider changing pickups. Muddy, lifeless, like a beehive. Cleans are okay, but clean-users are not the audience Ryan is really aiming at. So, to make it short: these overdriven/distorted sounds were way better to my ears, than in the other video. Also, I think you gave yourself a bad name with this comment.
Absolutely KILLER opening riff! Then it rolled right along into another screaming part on the octave. Then, to top it all off, I got a strong sense of deja-vu later along the video. Whatever it was, it must've jarred my subconscious in some mysterious way hahaha. Love your channel, man! Subscribed. I also find your style of music very similar to mine, as there were parts before your changes where I was thinking to myself "this chord change might sound good" and then you do exactly what I was thinking! Spooky!
Hey, Ryan. I just got a Reverend Sensei, it is amazing with these RailHammer. I'm going to get a pair of chisels for my Ibanez Iceman now that i see your video, see what it is like.
OK, I've totally fallen down the rabbit hole with your videos... Do you not have this Ibanez SZ anymore? I almost bought one of that version (with the oil finish) and regret never doing so.
My sz320 was my second guitar in 05 or 06...first real guitar that wasnt a starter pack crap guitar. It's still one of my favorite guitars to play to this day, and I have a kiesel and strandberg. Has dimarzios in it since 2012 and sounds great. Currently in c# standard but it's been all over the place with tunings and solid as hell.
***** Thank you very much ;) Maaan, these pickups could squeeze some cool stuff from my Powerball. I'm seriously considering buying myself a pair of those ;)
On a different note: Where do you stand on low-powered amps for home-use? I've been through a tiny terror, a night train and most recently a Blackstar HT5 with my PPC112 cab, but i'm still not satisfied and doubt that i'll ever be.
Schwurbel Weird. I had the Blackstar HT1 RH with a lowend quality (Beta Aivin 112) cab and it sounded awesome for cleans and metal alike. Maybe it's just not the sound you expect.
You can get a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or 2i4 used for ~$100. Out of the intro-level interfaces (incl., e.g., Presonus & m-audio), I put the Scarlett on top; I now use a 18i8 (same series, just more ins & outs--handy for drums, but 1 or 2 is perfect for bedroom guitar stuff).
This is like anything else. With the right guitar and amp a good pickup will always sound good. With such a varying amount of guitars Woods and all the other ancillary crap, I thought the pickup sounded just fine. Bluff does a great job, I think I would like to check out one of these in my SG just to see what it does.
Would you recommend these? Because honestly, there is not a trace of sparkle or life in this sound, like the strings have been dead for a month. I'm all for a pickup that sounds good in high gain territory, but if the clean sounds like this, i'm out. My DiMarzio Dominions handle that far better.
Will you make a demo or more with Sublime Pickups? His contact: facebook.com/andras.sublimepickups?fref=ts He makes pickups with unusual magnetic structure and in my opinion they're superior to most regular ones.
Description made me laugh.. "RailHammer Chisel pickups. Terrible. Don't buy them lol" That's too damn funny.. I didn't see this until after I watched your FAQ for this week.. Yeah F them in there A's! =P
Railhammer are incredible and underrated pickups!

Cole Justesen
The Hyper Vintage uses an alnico magnet, so it has less mids and is softer overall, more like a PAF.

Bailey of Sylosis has these in his Reverend guitar. They sound pretty damn good.
i actually like this riff to be honest. this is quite inspirational for a demo. sounds very good
You sir are a rifting beast!!!! Every video never fails to blow my mind man!
so you start the demo with drums bashing away , those pickup sound like any random pickup

Man the Thrasher sounds awesome! I love the tone on this video! Awesome job! Make Ola give you a Satan!
Fluff, do you eat a raw salmon for breakfast every morning? Because if you did, that would be awesome.
+Lockjawpony everybody in washington does
these pick ups and an evertune bridge would just be awesome
I'm here after seeing Reba Meyer's pickups on her guitar..
Great channel Ryan! Keep on Rockin'!
***** yup, the venues! Thx =)
Sounds awesome in my personal opinion
For anyone thinking these pickups sound bad- Check Paul Ozz's video of the Bond Instruments guitar with the same pickups in, sounds insanely better
Omg my first real guitar bought was that guitar 🤯 sounded amazing with a Dimebucker in bridge. Great tones! 🤘
How come youre the only guy on TH-cam that can make the Thrasher sound good? Sounds awesome dude.
***** Oh nice, well we appreciate your effort Fluff. Thank you!
KillerToneTexas did a pretty cool demo.
Try some Bill Lawrence pickups
Fluff those pick up sound AWESOME!! Nice review.
Great choice! Thanks!
hi! enjoying your videos dude! what ibanez model is that?
Dude! It's the demo song from the Banshee vid. Love this one.
Hey, Ryan. I just got a Reverend Sensei, it is amazing with these RailHammer. I'm going to get a pair of chisels for my Ibanez Iceman now that i see your video, see what it is like.
This is the only demo vid of these pickups that make them sound good.
Can't agree, just saw another vid in which they sound fantastic.
Sounds great!!

Same here, got this guitar around 04. Plays like a dream, love the look. I need to change the stock pickups though.
From 2020. Lol I forgot that Fluff had such a nice hair...
I'd love it if you had some solos in these little pieces! Otherwise they're great!
Sweet opener Fluff! Pups sound pretty sweet. Drum track sounds way more "human". Did you use EZD 2? Either way great vid as always!! PEACE!!
this is wierd
as far as i was concerned the blades are supposed to pick up the high strings
goo.gl blocked DIs link for some reason. And I was so excited to mess with 'em with my Powerball :C Any hope for reupload?
***** Thank you very much ;) Maaan, these pickups could squeeze some cool stuff from my Powerball. I'm seriously considering buying myself a pair of those ;)
Olaf Dubrawski ***** Should send this comment to Rail Hammer.
Is the Jimmy clip like a block for guitars which dont have block?
On a different note: Where do you stand on low-powered amps for home-use?
I've been through a tiny terror, a night train and most recently a Blackstar HT5 with my PPC112 cab, but i'm still not satisfied and doubt that i'll ever be.
who cares what he thinks, decide for yourself
some people like to talk about stuff.
Schwurbel
Weird. I had the Blackstar HT1 RH with a lowend quality (Beta Aivin 112) cab and it sounded awesome for cleans and metal alike. Maybe it's just not the sound you expect.
It's the cab. Believe it or not, the cab has as much, if not more to do with how your guitar sounds. So. Go get a new cab! :D
Nah man, i love the PPC cabs, they pack a huge punch, and in combination with a Rockerverb its my absolute dream sound. So i'm gonna keep it for now.
I have that guitar
The Ibanez sz series guitars are killer I've had mine almost 15 years and still one of my favorite I'll never get rid of.
Ryan, software plugins or amp micing? For recording also, what is a good cheap interface? thanks
How do u order the jimmy clip. I go to the website and I can't find a place to order. Thanks
thanks
I want that guitar, those pickups, and w/e amp he's using!

Sorry.. Bluff😉
Wow, so I know this is a REALLY old video, but does anyone know if Railhammers can be 'split coiled'?
Is that an ML-2 in the background?
Washburn Parallaxe PXM1000
EMCtv *Washburn Parallaxe PXL10
could you possibly do a review on the boss gt6?
Hey man, is the Ibanez SZ320 a nice guitar overall? What are the pros and cons?
Yes it is. Pros: Plays well and sounds awesome, no cons.
Would you recommend these? Because honestly, there is not a trace of sparkle or life in this sound, like the strings have been dead for a month.

***** FLUUUFFFFF HI FIVE FOR THE SZ MAN!
IBANEZ SZ'S ARE AWESOME MINES FLAME MAPLE :)
2022 and i am still using Rails...i have Anvils which are very very punchy
I'd get them just for the look.
What tuning are you in?? Drop c?
awsome man thanks. keep up the steller job on those vids man.
I get kind of a Lamb of God vibe from this sound. The riff, too, to an extent.
+Doodles the riff is more stone sour. The tone is somewhere in the middle.
They sound quite dark.
Based off of 4:00, I'd say the exact opposite--very thin at that point; they sat okay in the mix, but meh...
great review but that thumb placement in the clean section of the song pains me
Bad ass fluffy.
They sound like shit on the clean sound, but on a gain they're awesome
Will you make a demo or more with Sublime Pickups?

fluff, how fluffy is your beard? scientific measurement please.
Pickup sound is not descent not pronounce

That's too damn funny.. I didn't see this until after I watched
your FAQ for this week.. Yeah F them in there A's! =P
Big nostril! I just noticed! Amazing.
Who the heck is that. Lol
skinny rails, fat slugs.........jus' sayin'
These looks like the cheap chinese pickups on eBay.
