Pac's flow is the Core... and Pac is more closer to singer than to Dry Rapper, just because he sings short notes. He got deep voice and a great dynamic range with combination with the Hi-Hat rythm.
I ve asked a music teacher for him and she said that he is a singer not a rapper :d

Man the writing to the beat thing is very true. For writing, i freestyle to beats and put stuff in my notes that I like. Sometimes ill have a concept for a bar cause i like word play a lot. I just repeat the lyrics over and over again adding more and more.

All things considered, Rakim has the best flow. He's never off beat, syallbles are intentionally organized and he also isn't wordy in a way that takes you out of what he's saying. A true demonstration of rap mastery.

i got a pretty decent flow and i'm really good with all of the things you mentioned since i been rapping for 7 years but this advice right here 8:15 is really golden , i smoke a lot and have real trouble with breathing , i always find space for breathing with long bars, but when i write short bars with double rhymes i can't even get to the 3rd bar without running out of breath , i learned how to work around it when freestyling but when i'm in the studio i always have to record in small segments to get the flow right but never thought of prewriting or planning my breath that's actually brilliant

I'm 37 though, so I'm thinking I'm probably too old to be a rapper, but I'm an artist so I'm definitely going to give it a shot. But I'm not a rapper 😂😂😂
I've got something I've been working on, wrote it to Royce Da 5'9's Boom beat (anything by DJ Premier is always bumpin) now I'm just working on the flow.

Idk man..I don't struggle with flow. Maybe because I'm primarily a jazz pianist. But I can understand if you don't do anything else musically, and just rap, flow can be a pretty tough concept to grasp. Ironically i do a lot of syncopation, which is one the main characteristic of jazz/blues. Lyricism is my struggle, you typically don't write lyrics to jazz.....

No rapper has THE BEST flow. This culture is so beautiful, because if its diversity and reducing flow to only a few names would take that away from it.
So I will mention songs instead of artistis:
    Sean Price / BarBarian
    - P talking about beating the shit outta you never sounded harder
    Pumpkinhead/Emcee
    - i just love this track. I cant put my finger on why I love the flow here (+ the lyrics) so much but it gives me goosebumps anytime I listen to it.
    Lauryn Hill part/The Fugees/Family Business
    - "Cause I ve seen fire and I ve seen rain " 😍
    The Fugees / ManifestOutro
    - Everyone on this track is killing it
    Eminem / No Love
    - what he does on this track is just not human anymore. He mocks the rhythm and everybody else who ever tried to create a unique flow. Incredible.
(I am quiet good at rapping along songs and no part took me as long as this one to manage - but I did it after failing many many times)

A few things. Best flow pretty much goes to biggie. See I love it when they call me big poppa song for reference, pure flow! Next Absolutely rapping is at its core foundation percussive, which is why there's an issue with the qualifying hybrids with adding autotune, when it get melodic it begins to turn into singing. And now we seem to have blurred lines on the interpretation. For instance I have a problem with post Malone winning awards in all the rap categories because he is NOT a rapper and not rapping he is singing, but for some reason they keep calling him a rapper or putting him in the category when he is not and it's taking away from actual rappers. Even with autotune you are qualified as a rapper based on how much you lean on one versus the other. You are more percussive, your a rapper, you are less and more melodic and holding notes your a singer. Lastly there's nothing stylistic about being off beat. It really just means you suck. Because rap is musicianship, if the vocals are like drums then your vocals should hold time and cadence like a drummer, everyone can hear when a musician falls out of rhythm, it's obvious and horrible! It's like slipping a pedal while riding a bike. And thats one thing the masters all have in common, Supreme musicianship (timing and pocket) most whack lazy rappers who don't cultivate their craft use the excuse that they rap off on purpose and it's their style when it's really just complete bullshit and a reason to continue mediocrity. And this is why we currently have a subpar state of rap musicianship currently, because people accept these ridiculous excuses and allow a lower bar of what is acceptable in terms of skill and mastery.

I have to disagree with seven because you can always rearrange your written verse to fit the beat once you learn proper bar form and learn to get on beat.

the best flow i would probably have to say jay z. Some of the beats he raps on, it just doesn't make sense how he flows on them
