Yep. In an extreme case. You get people that claim everyone is faking that they can't have gluten or thinking it's a health movement when it does not play a big role for those not allergic, but there are plenty of people that have serious allergies and get dismissed as just being misinformed or dramatic. Also if they use egg and butter a person that is vegan should not be lied to. They can also get sick just from going so long without eating that stuff. That would probably just be an upset stomach though
Considering that being vegan is a choice, and that less than 1% of the population can't tolerate gluten, and even fewer suffer adverse effects from it(because people were eating it just fine until it became a buzz word), no, no one is going to die from this or get sick.

Flippers and droppers I hate, they drive up regular used goods prices. They try here in my small company to have a monopoly on one sector, e.g. 'refurbished' (washed in soapy water) dyson vacuum cleaners. To be honest no one is allergic to gluten. Celiac disease isn’t a gluten allergy and only 1% of world has it. Not saying it’s not possible but unlikely. Celiac disease IS NOT likely to kill you, it’s not a deadly reaction.
Celiac disease is not an allergy that causes an immediate allergic reaction that can kill (for example, a peanut allergy). Instead celiac causes an autoimmune reaction to occur. Once the patient eats gluten the immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine. A small of amount of gluten can destroy a large area of the small intestinal lining or a large amount of gluten can trigger a more modest loss. There is also a separate condition called gluten intolerance. So those are not killer donuts (probably). It all depends on how sick the person is already from celiac. If their small intestinal lining is already destroyed (villi are flat) it means they must be gluten free again to regrow it. The villi are how your small intestine absorbs nutrients.
The lack of comprehension from the people saying this could be a hit job by the accusing company. Fig literally defends the very identifiable donut multiple times before trying to backpedal.
if this had been some horrific mistake - she let the new kid handle the packing/dropoff and he was short a doughnut and didn't think anyone would notice if he replaced one, eg - she'd be tripping over herself apologizing and acting outraged and trying to get to the bottom of it and also attempting to mend a broken business relationship.

I'm not surprised. I don't trust any specialty donut store on Long Island. Too many of them seem to just add topping to the same prepackaged donuts and charge a significant markup. Ironically, the grocery stores seem to make their own donuts and they add extra toppings too.
I have to be honest here. Someone with a "severe" allergy to gluten would not just waltz into a store to buy advertised gluten free food. If it is that deadly to them I would imagine they would stay away from ready made foods entirely.
There is no such thing as a “gluten allergy”. Celiac disease is a genetic condition where eating gluten causes the immune system to attack the villi lining the small intestine. The inflammation destroys the lining and only in the absence of gluten can it regrow. That’s not an allergy.
To ease some concerns. Celiac disease does not produce an anaphylactic response. When someone with celiac consumes gluten, the bodily response is gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting and the like. Long term, Ive heard the damage gluten does to the digestive track can raise concerns for cancer but there would be no immediate response from gluten that would kill someone.

I feel like many people don't realize how common it is for restaurants to buy products from each other and sell things they didn't make in house. Labeling them incorrectly is totally inappropriate and obviously fraudulent but the "steamed-hams" concept is extremely common. Most places won't lie about it, they'll proudly tell you their rolls were made by such-and-such bakery etc.
I think the real story is here that all these super Duper sensitive people that could die literally were eating this stuff for who even knows how long without any problems probably thought they were the best donuts they ever had in their entire lives. That’s the real story here, in my opinion.
Even if some of these ingredients don't kill you immediately, like an anaphylaxis reaction, they can make you miserable over a long period of time; Celiac being one of those. Whether or not you "believe in it" is not the point. Tampering with someone's food is about the same as tampering with someone's medications.

It’s completely impossible to buy vegan food at the grocery store. The only place you could possibly purchase certified vegan food would be from a local Amish farm and that’s because the Amish don’t use any high-powered equipment to harvest their food they use a horse and hand tools, and that is literally the only way you can be vegan, because the whole point of vegan is to not harm any animals or take from any animals in the making of your Product which means everything sold in a grocery store is not vegan because it all uses large gas powered tractors that drive through the fields, harvesting the grain and produce while simultaneously running over and killing tens of thousands of mice, gophers moles, not to mention the farmer has to protect that crop and if there was a deer out there eating any of the corn that deer would get shot so it’s literally impossible to buy vegan food at the grocery store

The fact that these donuts could potentially kill someone who is allergic is disgusting.

And it's sure to get worse before it gets better.

Because people with allergies don’t deserve ready made food?
