    RuBP=Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate
    RuBisCO=Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase
    Rubisco catalyzes the reaction of RuBP with O2 or CO2
    As its full name indicates, rubisco is an oxygenase as well as a
    carboxylase-it can add O2 to the acceptor molecule RuBP in-
    stead of CO2. The affinity of rubisco for CO2 is about ten times
    stronger than its affinity for O2. This means that inside a leaf
    with a normal exchange of air with the outside, CO2 fixation is
    favored even though the concentration of CO2 in the air is far
    less than that of O2. But if there is an even higher concentra-
    tion of O2 in the leaf, it acts as a competitive inhibitor, and RuBP
    reacts with O2 rather than CO2. This reduces the overall amount
    of CO2 that is converted into carbohydrates, and may play a role
    in limiting plant growth.
    When O2 is added to RuBP, one of the products is a 2-carbon
    compound, phosphoglycolate:
    RuBP + O2
    → phosphoglycolate + 3-phosphoglycerate (3PG)

  • @sankalpsharma620
    @sankalpsharma620 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    She is a very good teacher. Fluent English, no details missing, every concept explained and revised many times. Very helpful. But this video was a LITTLE worse as compared to the other videos of ma'am, because of a few reasons like RuBp was misspelled and mispronounced throughout the video. Just wanted to correct you ma'am. It's 'Ribulose Bisphosphate' instead of 'Rubilose Biphosphate'. Also RuBisCO is 'Ribulose Bisphosphate Carboxylase Oxygenase' instead of 'Rubilose Carboxylase Oxygenase'. Also, it would have been way better if you had explained the Calvin cycle, the way it actually happens in plants, and not the way we would understand better. [By combining only one molecule of CO² with RuBp, you could have run the cycle thrice till the formation of 6 molecules of 3-PGAL and then finally recovered 1 RuBp from 5 of them.] >>> This could have been repeated twice to form the one molecule of glucose, at last. In this way, the tracking of no. of carbon in each compound and the calculation of no. of ATP & NADHP required for the synthesis of one molecule of glucose would have both been easier. Not pointing out mistakes, but just suggesting better method of explanation. Still liked the video. The video was awesome, overall. And thank you.

  • @harshmehrotra623
    @harshmehrotra623 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ques-Mam you said that 6 times Calvin cycle occur for the synthesis of 1 molecule of glucose but glucose is 6 carbon compound it must be synthesized in 2 carbon cycles because 1 mol of PGAL are formed during in one complete C3 Cycle and two PGAL are formed in 2 C3 cycle which means 1 molucle of glucose

    0:31 This reaction is not light independent.
    It is indirectly dependent on light as it depends on the products of light reaction to occur.
    And so as soon as sunlight is removed, the light reaction stops and hence after sometime the biosynthetic stage or dark reaction stops. Hence, it cannot occur in the absence of sunlight
