Back in the late 1980s, Coach Bob Weiss was on an Alaska Airlines commercial. He needed 2 quarters to use the bathroom, and went around asking other passengers if they had change. He wound up offering $10 for two quarters! (Because the bathroom was 50 cents). Then in the late 1980s, United Airlines, who has a hub in San Francisco, had backup center Dave Hoppen, then of the Warriors, do a couple of United Airlines commercials: "We're United Airlines, fly the friendly skies," and "United Airlines, We're taking off, That a day...is a day!" So cool!!

*He had 3 Final Four appearances: in 1998 with Partizan, and 2000 and 2001 with Efes.

Compare how well he's doing, to Robert Swift who was much more gifted. Drobber was so smart with his money, and his life.

I was in elementary school back in the 1997 and used to go to every Partizan game.
We had a strong team with Drobnjak, Tomašević, tragically killed Haris Brkić, great shooter Miroslav Radošević, Čubrilo, Lukovski, Koturović....
Truly a strong team that could've easily go to F4 if we were allowed to play.

Stretch big before stretch big was even a thing... I loved Drobnjak, i remember that huge game and clutch shots he had for national team back in 2001 in, i think it was 1/2 finals of Euro, against Spain with Gasol.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I'm well aware of the Robert Swift story. Swift made more money in the NBA than Drobnjak (although Drobnjak made a bundle in Europe). Swift was so much more gifted than Drobnjak. Yet, Drobnjak is in SUCH a better position in life today! He's financially secure, and his ability to speak English landed him a job with the Sacramento Kings as an "international scout." He was hired by Velottde Divac. I have so much admiration for a guy who wasn't the most gifted athlete (but, he had some good offensive basketball skills), and made the most out of his life. At 49 in 2024, he's living a good happy life. Total respect.

Moving the Sonics from Seattle to OKC has to be one of the stupidest moves the NBA ever did

Loved everything about this piece. So many great details. I'm admittedly a little sad Drobnjak wasn't into it, but having been in sports marketing and working with some athletes directly, the fun ideas are usually the ones they all just kind of smile their way through, even though they're probably grinding their teeth the whole time.

Remember the jumbotron, when the Sonics were on defense, would prompt "De-Fense," then they would cycle through all of the Sonics players doing the "clap clap?" Whenever Peja Drobnjak appeared, fans would start laughing! Same with Calvin Booth! The CC means "clap clap." Chant it: "Pe-Ja..CC..Drob-njak..CC..Looks real...Cc..Goo-fy! CC..Pe-ja..CC..Drob-njak..CC..Looks like..CC..A doo-fas!! Clap Clap!!"
