Around year 2000, I went out to California, and caught the western states gospel music convention. They had a panorama featuring several top tier players, each performing an awesome piece, mostly with huge background recordings...they all did great. But, I remember how they saved Derrell Stewart for last, then when he sat down, he played "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know", no background, just him on the piano...the entire arena was silent until the end, then the applause was truly thunderous. It was a memory of a lifetime for me!
I'd of given the Favorite Baritone Award to Parker Jonathan that year. He told the story of a little boy that came up to him, and asked him if he was an Indian. Parker said yes. The little boy asked him why he wasn't wearing any feathers. Parker looked at him and said:"I'm an Indian, not a Chicken"!
2 of the biggest pranksters but some of the nicest guys also!
Heal! I'm surprised Roger didn't jump clean outta his skin when Darrell shouted that word right almost in his ear!!! That was funny!!!
Agreed...and absolutely ridiculously talented with the keyboard. Two of the "masters"!
