- Some thoughts on how to do well on Component 1of the EDUQAS Media Studies A-Level exam, AKA the one with the unseens, with Claudia, with hygge, with Trump twice, with Assassin's Creed, with Straight Outta' Compton which we never even got to watch, with I, Daniel Blake that they made us watch even though we didn't need to, with Assassin's Creed even though the teacher had clearly never played it in their life, and probably with some other stuff as well.
My man Ian what a hero you are sir, you've done more for me their then my teachers in the last 2 years, shame it took me the day before the exam to find you. Good luck lads

Thanks for feedback! Bit trickier to do things for Component 2, given the fact different centres will be doing different combinations of texts. We're doing Woman's Realm/Huck, Life on Mars/Bridge, Zoella/Attitude. Hoping to get stuff done on more, but the clock is ticking, and the to-do list never seems to get done. Happy to answer any questions if no videos arrive before the dreaded date...

Is it possible for you to do a video on media essay structure and exam techniques ?
Hi, sadly I'm unlikely to find the time between now and the exam to get a video done. I've posted a few things in the comments under a few of the videos that give some additional advice, so worth looking there. There's such a variety of question types on the two papers that it's tricky to give hard and fast rules on structure. My best advice - and the one I repeat to my class to the point of absolute tedium - is to address the question, and to flag up you are doing this by using key words throughout your answer. I would also advice that, for Component 2 in particular, that you approach theory by stating that 'Theory X (e.g. genre) allows to understand many of the ways in which meaning is created in the text (e.g. Life on Mars), however to gain a more complete understanding, we must also consider the way in which the text incorporates Theory Y (e.g. post-modernism).' This should allow you to hit the Assessment Objective in which you are evaluating theory.

Are we supposed to be applying postmodernism to riptide - my teacher says we don’t but every revision video I’ve watched mentions it
Technically they are correct - the specification reserves Post-Modernism for Component 2. However, this doesn't mean that you can't write about it if the opportunity arises, it just means that there won't be a question on Component 1 that makes explicit reference to Baudrillard's ideas.
