    Given the wide spread in some of the groups and the wind you mention, it seems like the groups would be much better on a quiet day. It's an impressive rifle for $680 when many competitors are more than $2,000. I'd like to see your results on a calm day after you've put 100 rounds through the barrel and cleaned it once then another 20 rounds. Also, warm up the barrel before filming with 5 shots (maybe you did that). It sure looks like it could be a great value - if you glass bed the receiver, that might make it a tack driver!

    You and I look to be around the same age my friend, and have the same rifle! If you're anything like me, you have good days and not so good days trying to shoot decent groups... :)
    Back in my youth, my forte' was shooting ground squirrels with my Ruger Mk I Target that I fixed up with a set of Micro target sights, a Jim Clark trigger and a complete action/trigger job. Now, I use rifles... A CZ MTR over a hood, bench, shooting sticks or improvised field rest. I have a CZ Royal and a CZ American in 17 HMR that also shoots real well, IF I'm having a good day and the aches and pains don't get the best of me.
    Picking up a CZ Trainer today and will be seeing how it does. I left proving anything to anyone behind a long time ago, as I'm sure you have as well. I shoot for my own source of fun and keeping in shooting shape and nothing more these days. Just yesterday, I was reminded of the "Good days/Bad days" of my own age related shooting dilemma, when I couldn't get any of my rimfires to group well under near ideal conditions! I just thanked our Father in heaven for the beautiful day and saved the ammo for another time.
    I'm going to have a look at adjusting my action screws a bit tighter as you have and see how it works out! Best Regards and Thank you for the video!

    • @farleyjj1
      @farleyjj1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your articulate expression of your worldview for shooting! I agree wholeheartedly. A bad day of shooting is better than a good day of most things, and every Day is a gift from the good Lord! Hope you enjoy your CZ Trainer.
      I just purchased a Harrell Tuner for the MTR. It’ll be interesting to see what that does.
      I also have the CZ 457 Precision Chassis. The one without the MTR chamber. I like the chassis and trigger, but I do not like the rear butt stock. It’s loose and noisy.
      God bless you and yours, and thanks for watching the video.

      I should have noticed earlier, that Eley Target did well in your MTR! It also shoots pretty well in my MTR! Another ammo that does very well in these is the very expensive Eley Match. Josh over on "Pursuit of Accuracy" uses it in his CZ that he shoots in competition, his rifle wears a Lilja barrel and does extremely well! I haven't tried the Match ammo, at $21.00 per box of 50, I don't find that it fits in my world to well right now! :) For whatever reason however, I have real good results with Aguila super extra high velocity, 40 grain. If you find that, you might give it try if your shooting longer distances.
      I found some 22lr ammo today that I haven't seen before! It's called "Top Shot". It appears to be made in Germany under the Sellier & bellot label. I'll try it in the MTR, Royal and Trainer and report back to you.
      Best Regards

    The MTR is designed for MATCH GRADE AMMO ONLY. The is reason you are have difficulty closing the bolt. The rims are thinner in match grade any other such as Standard Velocity will damage the bolt. That being said, try GECO .22 MATCH AMMO. It is inexpensive and holds a very tight group. You can get more expensive ammo, but for my money I will buy GECO .22 MATCH AMMO. BTW I have also converted other shooters at our range into believers. I have been shooting my MTR for about a year now. This is an excerpt from CZ official web site. Selected models in the .22 LR calibre, such as the CZ 457 MTR, have a Match cartridge chamber at the very edge of the CIP tolerance. Very precise production and low tolerances provide an excellent accuracy guarantee of 1 MOA depending on the ammunition used.

    You should be able to get that rifle to shoot better than that. A little attention to the crown, torque settings on the action screws and grub screws. If you have a borescope, check the chamber for burrs and carbon ring. Maybe experiment with a pressure pad at different locations. My 457 Varmint will do .5 MOA at 50 yards with SK rifle match. Of course, your rifle may like different ammo. Lots of variables to work on.

    • @farleyjj1
      @farleyjj1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any recommendations for the torque setting? What are “grub“ screws? (Thanks for your interest.)

    • @farleyjj1
      @farleyjj1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Steve, you realize that .5 MOA at 50 yards is .25 inches. All shots must essentially go in one hole! Impressive!

    • @lucabrasi5070
      @lucabrasi5070 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grub screws hold the barrel into the receiver. They should be at about 30. The action screws hold the barrel and receiver to the stock. Try around 20-25. Check these torque settings as they have had major qc issues at the factory. Yes, I know exactly how large a group .5 MOA is at 50 yards. Center to center, it’s not really one hole, but they touch.i use the Ballistic-X app for measuring groups.

    • @lucabrasi5070
      @lucabrasi5070 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I could do it consistently, but I’d be lying. Even if the rifle shoots lights out, I manage to contribute a certain amount of inaccuracy often. Plus, even really good ammo has some variability in velocity and aerodynamics.

    • @tiputipu777
      @tiputipu777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucabrasi5070 Did you shoot 5 shot groups? pretty much any modern 22 rifle will do .5moa with 5 shots at 50 with match ammo. With 22lr there is never a reason to shoot less than 10 shot groups. You can easily get .5moa groups with 5 shots at 100 as well. 22 is so cheap and will always have variables that 10 shot groups will always tell a better story. For example my tikka t1x with sk rifle match shot a group where 5 shots were .5moa but the whole 10 shot group was almost 3 moa at 100 meters. I always test my 22lr with 5x10 shot groups and then take the average as the rifle and ammo combo accuracy.

    These groups at 50 were not impressive but dont be dishearted. I have a friend who shot 0.79moa with 10 shots at 300 meters with his 457 mtr. He sorted his ammo by weight and shot sk rifle match. So the rifle is definately capable. Of course you need luck (mostly environmental that there is actually 0 wind during the whole shot string) to be able to pull of such a good group.

      Mark R Are you saying those are good groups, they’re over an inch at 50 yards. That rifle should easily be capable of 0.3 - 0.5’s at 50 with an ammo it likes. Now that said it comes down to skill of the shooter, wind conditions, etc as well beyond just the rifles and ammo capabilities. I’m not being critical of the guy shooting, he’s having fun with it and put it up there for everyone to see. But strictly from a mechanical accuracy perspective those groups aren’t impressive for benchrest shooting.

      Seth Rich Just reporting, don’t shoot the messenger. Two of my buddies sold theirs because they never did shoot well. Must’ve been made on a Monday. Mine seems to like Geco Match.
