- Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Kirby's Dream Land 2 from HAL Laboratory and Nintendo for the Game Boy. Released for Nintendo's original puke-green portable in 1995, Kirby's Dream Land 2 was produced by Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto and a rising star in the ranks of HAL Laboratory named Satoru Iwata. Kirby's Dream Land 2 had sharp minds working on it, and the results speak for themselves. This game improves on everything about its predecessor and is a prime example of good, smart sequel development. This video review features video gameplay footage of Kirby's Dream Land 2 for the Game Boy and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.

one of my favorite games when I was a kid. I used to play this game SO much...I beat it like 50 times and never got bored of it.
My top 3 games on my Gameboy Pocket were:
Super Mario Land
Kirby's Dreamland 2
Pokemon Red
Those were the days...
But now I have my 3ds XL and all is good in the world...lovin it.
You can ride a hamster? I'm already sold on it. That's brilliant. You can't ride a hamster in any other game I know of.
I'm pretty sure he meant to say that having the dash makes Kirby easier to control.

One reason I didn't like this game much was because Kirby's ability to dash was taken out of this game, which actually make him more easier to control..
This was the first game I ever played from start to finish as a kid!

The music was deff a step back tho. Wasnt as memorable as the first and I hated that when you are riding on the animals their theme plays the whole time and never stops
I hope this hits 3ds virtual console. I'm slowly building my Kirby collection :)

The one negative I have with this game is there seems to be less enemies whose attacks you can copy compared to Kirby's Adventure. Maybe it's just the limitations of the GB cart. But the variety of abilities was the best thing about Adventure to me. The different abilities of the animals kind of helps, but a lot of them aren't that good and I'd almost prefer just using the Kirby version of the attack.
Of the 25 from Kirby's Adventure only 7 remain: Burning, Cutter, Ice, Needle, Parasol, Spark, and Stone.... and technically some abilities did come back through animal partners like Beam, Fire, and Freeze.

I have a feeling that the devs were trying to make the game simpler for less experienced players or something, but it proved kind of unnecessary in practice.

wtf I didn't know this sequel even existed. and you can ride a fuckin hamster...shit...they shoulda made this for NES even though it was pretty dead at that time.

This doesn't look any different than Kirby's Adventure on the NES. Same sprites and graphics (minus the color obviously), just a new gameplay mechanic.
